My Boyfriend Thought Washing His Hair With Irish Spring Was A Thing Until He Brought This Shampoo Home

I dunno what’s up with my boyfriend but he had a beautification day yesterday. I told him in the morning, “Listen, can you do me a favor and bring the dog to the groomer to get her nails clipped?” And he was like, “Oh yeah totally!”

A few hours later he texted me a pic of the dog with glittery pink nail polish. I mean, he did get her nails clipped but he also had them paint her nails. I don’t hate it but I also, don’t know what came over him that he was all, “Oh yeah, why don’t you paint the dog’s toe nails too while you’re at it?”

Now, he also happens to be Mr Universe. He eats well and he runs about 10,000 miles a day. We have a perfectly great pair of treadmills but even if it’s pouring rain or a blizzard out he’ll do his damn best to get outside at stupid o’ clock to run. I wave at him from the door as he leaves to run while munching on an English Muffin dripping with melted butter haha…! This also translates as he showers twice a day. Once after his workout and once at night. His idea of clean though is a bar of Irish Spring soap. He uses it to wash his hair, his body, his face…hell, I would place bets he’d use it to clean his teeth too if it tasted as good as it smelled.

But something odd happened yesterday…..!

We went to dinner last night and when we got home he was all, “I’m gonna take a shower and we’ll watch TV in bed after!” And I was like yeah, sounds good! So, away he went….

He got back and he smelled like coffee. And I was like hmmm, what’s that about? But we settled in and started catching up on Lisey’s Story and I forgot about it. This morning I got up, worked out, and hit the shower after him and the scent of a mocha with coconut was filling the air of the bathroom. Odd but lovely!

Turns out he purchased a bottle of OGX Anti-Hair Fall Coconut Caffeine Strengthening Shampoo and Conditioner. I mean, I dunno how to feel right now. I almost have a proud mama thing going on. He not only purchased shampoo for himself but also, conditioner and it smells like a mocha with coconut creamer. I LOVE THIS MAN! Although, I was concerned about the Anti-Hair Fall….so, of course, I had to tease him and told him, “Hmm lean down let me see your hair! Oh everything looks ok!!!!” And he was all, “WHAT? Why?” And I told him he purchased a shampoo and conditioner for hair loss. He was horrified and his reply was, “But it smelled really good!”

I had to explain to him it was ok and that I totally purchased hair products “Just because they smelled good”. Like that time I purchased Tea Tree Oil Shampoo and Conditioner full well knowing I don’t have oily hair but my excuse was it smelled delightfully peppermint-y!

And he’s isn’t wrong….it smells delightful. And the scent lingers quite strongly in my hair and even in the air! It’s really a fun little mocha coffee with coconut notes scent! It made me buy the OGX Smoothing + Coconut Coffee Exfoliating Body Scrub and Smoothing and Coconut Coffee Body Cream from Target today in the hopes they both smell as great as the shampoo and conditioner.

So yeah, neither one of us is having hair loss issues but I’m not minding a coffee scented shampoo and conditioner! Can’t hurt right?

I say try it! It’s rather nice having Starbuck scented hair.

I think it’s ironic OGX has an anti hairless shampoo as there’s a class action lawsuit against them for their shampoo causing hairless.

Your boyfriend hair products story just cracked me up, what a great way to start my morning at work by laughing!!!!

    • Isabella Muse

haha! I’m glad 🙂 he cracked me up and shocked me! I was like wait,he shops shampoo now?!

  • Dee

Loving that he got the dog’s nails painted pink with glitter! And love me some coffee so will look for this shampoo and conditioner.

It’s weird you mentioned this- I just used it for the first time this morning! I love your boyfriend’s transition from stereotypical guy hygiene to fancy hygiene! And the dog’s nail polish of course.

    • Isabella Muse

LOL something weird came over him and I don’t hate it 🙂 did you like it? I thought it smelled lovely!

This story made me laugh, thank you! Let us know if this new shampoo helps his thinning hair, I may purchase it for myself!

    • Isabella Muse

aw you are so welcome I’m glad I made you laugh my dear! He actually doesn’t have thinning hair! I had to tell him that he purchased a shampoo for thinning hair and he was liKE WHAT?! HA!

Your chihuahua deserves a wardrobe upgrade too…s.t. With matchy-matchy pink. The pic of you in glasses is also endearing (not in a creepy way…). Was just saying this AM to coworkers that it’s great that men are getting s/c, m/u, as well as the increased diversity. I would def get concealer, no matter what gender identity. What are your pronouns? Why concealer and eyeliner, of course.

The OGX body scrub doesn’t smell as good as your description of the shampoo/conditioner. I get more of a synthetic coconut and no coffee. I hope you review it and the body cream as well.
If you want some delicious shampoo and conditioner, Native has a limited edition rainbow tie dye vanilla cupcake scent. It’s so good and I can smell it in my hair afterwards. They also have a mint cookie and a fresh peach cupcake but I think in body wash and deodorant only.

ok need ALL that. I got the candy cane conditioner and shampoo during xmas and loved it! Def need the vanilla cupcake! Thanks Glenda!

Irish Spring soap has a bit of lore that it helps prevent hair loss, possibly because it cleans away dht so well without all the controversial ingredients in shampoo that’s often associated with hair loss. There is some suspicion that shampoo companies want to cause hair loss as there’s a lot of money in hair restoration services.
Also Irish Spring in my experience works wonders to keep insects away from home as well. I just rub a bar around front door so they never try to sneak in. Grate some in fireplace to ward away spiders.
