Supergoop! Every. Single. Face. Watery Lotion SPF 50 ($34) is a new lightweight chemical sunscreen with an SPF 50 that protects against UVA and UVB rays that weas recently launched for the Spring/Summer 2022 season.
I happen to be an incredible snob when it comes to sunscreens. I prefer Japanese formulas because they are typically very lightweight, watery, or gel-like in formula, fast to absorb, and not heavy or greasy. I haven’t found any in the US that rival the Japanese formulas I know and love. But it can be a little irritating not finding them locally or having to travel into Queens to buy them or having to buy them online and wait for them to arrive from abroad.
Now Supergoop!, they got my attention with this new Every Single Face Watery Lotion SPF 50 because if you can get past one major issue this is a keeper.
Supergoop! Every Single Face Watery Lotion SPF 50 is a chemical sunscreen that protects against UVA and UVB rays using a combination of Avobenzone 3%, Homosalate 9%, Octisalate 5%, and Octocrylene 9%. It also contacts wild butterfly ginger root extract with apparently filters glue light as well but I really can’t speak much about the ingredient without further research.
The sunscreen comes housed in a circular squeeze tube that’s $36 and holds 1.7 oz of product. Personally, I’d ditch the circle bottle, put it in a tube, and make it bigger, and I’d be much happier but since the formula is so brilliant I’ll try to overlook this.
According to Supergoop! this is a lightweight formula that can be worn by any skin type and has a cool, refreshing feel with undetectable protection. As per the name, it is indeed watery, thin, and has a gel, serum-like consistency. It leaves absolutely no white cast behind, absorbs in a snap, isn’t greasy nor shiny nor oily, and is as undetectable as they promise. It wears well under foundation and makeup and doesn’t pill. It has a smooth, lightly hydrating finish but nothing heavy nor greasy here. Let’s just call it pure perfection. This is a JOY to use. An absolute joy. They nailed the formula here and did it exceedingly well. Anyone, ANYONE that hates wearing SPF immediately needs to try this because the formula is just simply beautiful and very non-intrusive to wear. It’s not heavy, it’s not shiny, and it isn’t going to make you look like a ghost. It’s just lightweight, beautiful protection.
That being said there’s one major problem. And it’s a problem most all Japanese formulas face too. And I’m sure we know exactly what the elephant in the room is.
Alcohol.
The formula water and alcohol-based. I know, I know. It sucks. Unfortunately, alcohol is an ingredient I’ve made my peace with when it comes to lightweight sunscreens. It’s a very common one found in many Japanese formulas. I have drier skin and alcohol isn’t exactly kind to such a skin type plus alcohol in general just isn’t a good ingredient for skin (it breaks down collagen, etc…)
That being said, I do use sunscreens that contain alcohol. I’ve been using this all weekend and in my experience, I didn’t feel dry or tight using it. But if you avoid alcohol in your skincare it might not be for you. Personally, I’m willing to overlook this as the formula is so lightweight and such a pleasure to wear.
Do I recommend it?
Absolutely. Especially if you love Japanese formulas. It’s truly a good pick up for anyone that hates the heavier feel of SPF!
