5 stars out of 5

NYX Plump Right Back Electrolytes Plumping Primer Serum ($17) is a new Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamin E, Pro-Vitamin B5, Magnesium, and Potassium infused gripping primer that promise to plump, hydrate, and energize skin. I absolutely love gripping primers, particularly Milk’s Hydro Grip Primer but sadly, it contains alcohol which means I’m always hunting around trying to find something better for my skin!

Two replacements I’ve found are E.L.F. Jelly Pop Dew Face Primer and E.L.F. Mint Melt Cooling Primer, however, it seems that they are phasing these out and replacing them with the new Power Grip Primer (Power Grip Primer has many of the same ingredients as Mint Melt).

Anyway, I’m always up for something new which is why I decided to give NYX Plump Right Back Electrolytes Plumping Primer Serum some of my time and attention.

NYX Plump Right Back Electrolytes Plumping Primer Serum is absurdly overpriced at $17 for 1 oz of product. Jeez, what happened to the days of $4-$5 primer from NYX? There is some good news. Walmart.com has it for $11.47 or you can grab a mini 0.27 oz size for $8 bucks to try out before indulging in the larger size! And don’t forget Ulta.com has $3.50 off orders of $15 with code 982719. That’ll help a little with the price.

I didn’t what to expect from this formula as I loved the idea of Hyaluronic Acid in my primer but wasn’t sure about Magnesium and Potassium! Apparently, Magnesium is supposed to be great for oil control and Potassium acts to create a more moist feel in the skin. Honestly, it all sounds gimmicky. Sodium Hyaluronate also appears as the six the ingredient on the list here which means there’s not a whole lot in here.

But…

This stuff works. Like, it really works. I was highly skeptical but I love it. I dunno if I’d recommend it for oily skin but if you’re dry and your foundation tends to look cakey or patchy you need this. It’s a thicker gel formula that absorbs easily into the skin and leaves it slightly dewy to the touch. The dewiness does disappear once the foundation is applied. I dunno what magic they are using but not only does it create an incredibly smooth canvas for my makeup to look smoother but also, it creates this amazing plumped-up effect. I don’t have finer lines on my face but I’m noticing that I’m starting to see marionette lines and this instantly plumps the skin around my mouth and nose so that it looks more lifted.

I noticed my foundation applies absolutely dream on top of it as well. I got the new Makeup Revolution IRL Filter Longwear Foundation and it’s a bit drier for my skin. But when I wear it with this it looks so smooth and so flawless! It also seemed to extend the wear of my foundation as I felt like my foundation lasted about two hours longer than it normally does!

It comes housed in a pump jar that releases just the right amount out of the bottle. I noticed no scent but some people I read reviews from said they noticed a light citrus scent. Honestly, my nose detects nothing.

NYX Plump Right Back Electrolytes Plumping Primer Serum is a keeper! I will repurchase this! If you’re a lover of Milk Hydro Grip I recommend trying this out.

Although expensive the NYX Plump Right Back Electrolytes Plumping Primer Serum is a great pick for drier skin! This gripping gel makeup primer plumps up the skin as it adds much-needed hydration so makeup looks smooth and flawless and wears longer. I find this formula absorbs quickly and leaves behind a dewy but not tacky surface for makeup to adhere to. It not only made my skin look smoother but my makeup wasn’t prone to adhering to drier areas on my face. Plus it seemed like my foundation lasted two or so hours longer than it normally does.

It’s also a dupe for laneige priming serum. Love both of them!

I bought a mini but I haven’t tried it yet. But, I’m guessing I better wait for cooler weather since my skin is more oily right now.

I love Elf Jelly pop primer too! have you tried NYX Bare With Me Aloe & Cucumber Extract Hydrating Jelly Primer? curious how it compares with the elf jelly primers.

It’s great right? I’d say no on that. NYX Bare with Me is more like Illamasque’s primer. I don’t really love the formula. I feel like I’m chasing chunks of primer around my skin! The ELF gripping primer, the new one is pretty good!
