Revlon Stock Falls 46% And Reportedly Is Ready To File for Bankruptcy

Revlon is the next victim of the pandemic as their stock fell 46% on June 10th and allegedly they are preparing to file for bankruptcy! As with many brands Revlon has had an issue with supply chain demands but also, they have had a long decline in sales for the past few years and a 3 billion dollar long-term debt that remains unpaid. It gained refinancing in the amount of 1.8 million on that debt and the hope in 2020 was this would prevent them from going down the bankruptcy road.

Sadly, doesn’t look like it’ll help as their stock fell so dramatically on Friday. According to Women’s Wear Daily, Ronald Perelman, the largest shareholder of the brand, began to liquidate his assets in 2020. Revlon is 90 years old so hopefully, the bankruptcy road doesn’t mean they’ll disappear forever. There’s some good chance they’ll be able to prevail. Revlon’s house brands also include Elizabeth Arden and Almay. What does it mean for them?

We’ve seen lots of brands fall under the pressure of the pandemic late last year and into this year. Who will be next?

I’d really hate to see Revlon go. It’s an iconic American brand: Fire & Ice has been with us for generations, and so has Love That Red. Revlon makes some of the best drugstore lipsticks out there – I’ve always thought L’Oréal’s seemed dry and waxy in comparison – and some of their foundations are excellent, too.

It really is! She’s 90 years old! It would be weird not seeing Revlon Lipsticks on drugstore shelves, that, imho, is what they are best known for!

And Cherries in the Snow? I think that’s an oldie too that’s still around.

Wow, I am shocked about this! It makes me nervous about a lot of brands, and not just in beauty1

I know 🙁 I keep thinking Urban Decay next for some reason!

Revlon has been around forever. In my neck of the woods, Elizabeth Arden gets shoved to the back of the beauty halls. I don’t think Almay has been relevant for years – at least not here.

Estée Lauder is most likely keeping an eye on its underperforming brands, as is L’Oreal and maybe LVMH. Urban Decay has lost a chunk of relevancy and sales with underperforming launches. I would think Pat McGrath may be struggling. Lots of sales. Colour pop with the release of the week model probably can’t keep up much.

I would hate to see Revlon go. They have a lot of nice products and I still use them. They also own Elizabeth Arden and Almay. I wish Revlon and Arden would sell their older shades in vintage packaging or do some sort of limited edition. They came out with a Loren Gray collection but that did not seem appealing.

I miss their seasonal collections when they included nail polish. They changed the brush in their polish but also reduced the availability and number of colors in their polish line too. Revlon also owns CND so now I wonder if it includes just the cosmetics division or the entire corporation.

I would hate for Revlon to no longer exist! The first lipstick I was allowed to wear came from Revlon and I remember feeling so grown up! I still love their lipsticks and so many of their products. I just bought a brand new bottle of their Color Stay Foundation and have one of their powders.

I totally get it! Revlon Lipstick is pretty much an icon in the drugstore!

Oh i;m so sad! I’ve been a repeat buyer of their Super Lustrous Lipstick in Rum Raisin & their compact setting powder for years. My go to lipstick for daily use. And I also like their Colorstay Satin Ink liquid lipstick.
In this world of pandemic & bad world economy, it is really sad to see an affordable trusted brand like Revlon go down this path.

I don’t think I’ve seen men used in Revlon’s campaigns as other brands have successfully done. Perhaps if they did, things would be better for Revlon? As for Ron Perelman, he is bad news.

I keep Revlon’s Cherries in the Snow lipstick in my everyday makeup bag. Hope they survive this.
