Ulta Offers “Newer” Customers 20% Which Is a Bit Annoying

Ulta sent out targetted 20% off prestige coupons to “newer customers” last night and hey, great but I can’t help but feel a little annoyed I didn’t get one. I’m a Diamond Rewards Member and I think the last time I saw 20% Off was just before Christmas and not since. I’ve gotten a few offers like $10 off $50 or $15 off $75 but I have a stockpile of Rewards Points and I’m waiting for 20% off to do a haul.

It’s rather disappointing they aren’t offering it to both new and older, loyal customers that spend money. I found it frustrating they do all these odd targeted coupons lately. It’s annoying. What’s the point of a reward system that only rewards a certain, select audience?

I imagine I’m being of a child about this as those who are newer and spend less probably feel the same way when those who are a bit older and spend more get more offers. The situation is reversed many times for newer customers which I’m sure is equally annoying and frustrating for them. I think I just feel a bit more entitled than someone newer who spends less. I remember Sephora was also doing this to entice newer customers to spend more but I do wonder does it leave older reward members left feeling alienated?

I know I feel a bit frustrated, alienated, and annoyed by it.

I’m not a small Ulta order kind of girl. I’ve even been shopping hardcore in-store lately as well. Recently, when my Benefit Blush order arrived broke from ASOS I shipped them all back, disputed with my credit card (as ASOS customer service was awful, and I ended up placing an order for all the shades from Ulta. That’s a pretty damn large amount of money and yet I have no 20% off in my inbox.

I’m a little upset. Blame it on Monday 🙂

What do you think?

Are you pissed Ulta sent out 20% off to “newer customers” versus older, more loyal ones?

I can’t remember the last time I had an Ulta 20% off everything coupon. Maybe that’s why I’m not shopping with them very much these days.

Yep, they make you gag for that 20% until after Thanksgiving. They forgot that sales make people spend MORE than they were planning, not less!

        • Isabella Muse

remember they had Holiday Haul Days and they still hadn’t released 20% off last year? It was like well after Black Friday as I remember that the 20% happened. I should look back. What a shame as I remember the year it was 20% off like quarterly!

          Isabella,
Thanks for bringing attention to this matter. In my opinion, Ulta is shitting all over their long term customers. But you know what? Our money spends and they’re not the only game in town. I do my best to avoid companies that don’t value me. Especially now, I’m on a budget and I will go to where the sales are. As a side note while I’m voicing my dislike, Ulta’s customer service is so bad! In store, the employees are lovely but if you have to call or deal with issues online…prepare to be disappointed! Ulta, get your head out of your ass I say!

my pleasure Miska! The CS is bad lately! I’ve had some crummy experiences with both online and in store sales 🙁

No you’re not being a child about it, and I *hate* when I’ve been a loyal customer/subscriber/whatever, and the only thing the company sees me as is a means to underwrite new subscribers/ whatver so they can make more money. It’s like phone companies that only offer good deals to *new* customers. It’s all a bunch of horsepucky, but it appears the message is getting thru, as some companies are finally offering the same deals to everyone.

I hate being treated as though my only importance is to ensure the company doesn’t lose money by offering good deals only the NEW customers. If I get a survey from a company, I always make sure to bitch about that. Maybe someday it’ll matter.

I mean, I don’t begrudge new customers! I’m glad they got something but I’d have loved one too! And yes, you’re right, cell phone companies and cable ones do this a lot!

You are not being a child about this. I’m diamond and want to be rewarded for bring a good customer! I get wanting to bring new customers in but this sure puts me off shopping with them.

    • Isabella Muse

🙁 Same! It’s nice that new customers got but I’d have loved one too!

With you all the way on this one, Muse. As a long-time Platinum member, I’m feeling distinctly unappreciated right now.

    • Isabella Muse

same! 🙁 I was upset. I mean, it’s great new customers get 20% off! Good! That’s a great promotion to get them shopping but hey, what about me? 🙁

  • Tigerlaf

I concur. I used to beat platinum or diamond by the first quarter of the year. Not anymore. I haven’t shopped there once this year yet. I feel that I’m getting better deals directly from the makeup manufacturer/brand website. I haven’t received a 20% off since last summer! I wasn’t given one before Christmas either. Because Ulta stopped giving coupons and also pushing certain political narratives I disagree with I’m no longer shopping there. I’ve actually saved a ton of money this year.

    • Isabella Muse

It’s sad really 🙁 I still think the rewards are the best around but sucks about the coupons! So sorry you haven’t gotten one since last year : (

  • Ashley

I don’t think you’re being a child. I have several hundreds of dollars in points saved up because we didn’t get a 20% coupon for over two years and I’ve just kept racking up points. I’ve been waiting for a coupon so I can do a serious haul and I’ve been happy to watch even more luxury and high end brands come in but I want to get to best bang for my buck! I kind of want to stamp my feet and throw a fit like Veruca Salt but I’ll just wait and maybe treat my self for something significant like hopefully getting the promotion I’m applying for!

    • Isabella Muse

thank you! I am so pissy about the fact they are targeting new customers and not us! 🙁 LOL I’m with you on a veruca salt meltdown!

  • Mary Wachob

What happened to Ulta’s liter sale? Only 1 brand on sale. UGH
