Lush Kitchen Subscription Box Is A Toxic Romance

The Lush Kitchen Subscription Box is now available on Lush NA. I believe the UK has had this for over a year or more now but we are just now gaining access to this cool new service.

This is really one for the Lush Lovers! If you aren’t a fan of Lush you might feel it’s too expensive, not worth it, etc….! I think it caters to Lush Lovers the most but who knows, maybe even non-Lushies will adore it.

Here’s how it works!

So, this is both fun and not so fun. Fun because with your subscription purchase you literally get to vote on products to be made. Each month Lush will e-mail you with a new menu of products to vote for! These items are brand new, never-before scene items! The most voted for products will be included in next month’s box. You’ll get four to five, vegan, limited-edition bath, shower and skincare products that you can’t get anywhere else for $49.95 plus shipping of $6. This isn’t a bad deal considering how dramatically Lush prices have risen over the last ten years. But each item is around $11 and change. If you get skincare or say a shower gel that $11 is a very good deal. But if you get soap and say bath bombs well, mmmm, not so much as those items are typical $8-10 each. That being said the items in this box are brand new and never before seen so you are paying for that.

Here’s the not-so-fun part.

All the items are limited edition. That means if you fall in love with the item in the box chances are you might never see it again.

Sigh.

That can be pretty darn disappointing. I’ve seen so many Lush items come and go over the years and I MISS so many of them. Getting a box full of items I’ll potentially love and never have access to again sounds like a toxic romance.

Don’t get me wrong! It’s an amazing concept being able to vote on items to be made and getting them sent to you but I’ll be truly broken-hearted if I fall in love with those items and never see them again!

But that’s the name of the game with the Lush Kitchen Subscription Box.

You can sign up now for the first box! Sign up by the 5th of the month to receive that month’s box and voting is open from the 24th to the 5th of each month for the items that will be included. This actually makes it interesting as you’ll be able to see what might be in the box before you subscribe.

Let me know if you sign up! I’m thinking about it!

LOL me too! but I hate the idea of falling in love with something I won’t be able to get again!

I am ok with the impermanence. This does tap into what I loved most about Lush, and I feel they have gotten away from a bit, is the fringe stuff that most people may not like enough to keep on the permanent line up. Plus former-employee nostalgia for the boxes they used to send us in advance of product release. Oh they got me. I subscribed.

gotta admit I semi-don’t mind either because it feels like a forum thing (not sure if you remember the old limited edition forum runs! Those were so cool!).

It’s not worth it, super messy process that they haven’t figured out all the kinks yet. Just received my first box, even though I subscribed in mid-August. I had to wait 50 days for my first box. They did not explain why I did not receive a box in September. Messy billing process. I had a temporary credit card charge in August, then a first real charge in September 19(for the box I just got), then another real charge on October 6 (even though I had yet to receive one box I’ve already been charged for a second).
With the September charge I got a email shortly after saying my box I would not get as the credit card didn’t work I had to call customer service and they had no idea why I got that email when the charge clearly went through on my card. Customer Service was nice but said I was charged and would receive the box and was just as confused as I was on the email.
On the email to vote for the items I just received, the email link they sent did not work for over a week, so that was confusing.
I estimated the value of the items in the box to similar items on Lushs website(US) and got the following:
    BathBomb 4.2 oz worth $6.95
    ShowerBomb 2.6oz worth $6.50
    BubbleBar 5.8oz worth $12.00
    BoodyLotion 3.3oz worth 13.50
    ShowerGel 8.4oz worth $22.00
    Total $60.95
While my estimated value is what I paid for the box with tax and shipping its not worth it as I don’t like the bathbomb(smell), my Bubblebar arrived broken, and the showergel is most likely not that expensive, its just double the size of their normal ones..so if its ends up not great then it’s a waste of money.

I love Lush and I love the idea of this….I was just really frustrated with the process and will be canceling for at least a year until hopefully the process is fully worked out.

oh god that sounds horrible. I got mine around October 6th as well! I didn’t open it yet but thanks for sharing contents! Sounds like a good deal of items but the billing sounds weird! I honestly didn’t notice an issue with that. Hopefully they iron out the kinks!

The October box was the launch box, this was pretty clearly described when I signed up over the summer as they first announced the service. The double billing mess up was sad but they were very proactive about reaching out and correcting it. It isn’t the first time I’ve been double billed by lush, I’ve learned to watch for that when online and in store shopping. Did you not receive the enamel pin and the hardcover journal in the October box too?

        • L

It was. I wasn’t double billed but the emailed all (or some) of us to warn about the issue and to check out bank statements.

wow I didn’t get double billed and didn’t get an email either WTH?
