I Spent $24 on Tarte Tartelette Tubing Mascara Only To Have It Go On Sale

Hi there! I’m Isabella and I spent $24 on Tarte Tartelette Tubing Mascara only to have it go on sale this month during Ulta’s 21 Days of Beauty Sale. Oh, woe is freaking me. I happen to be a die-hard fan of Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes. I’ve tried other Tarte mascara but none of them are as good as Lights, Camera, Lashes. This past Summer I had this moment of really relishing new beauty releases. I was really getting into anything and everything makeup the past few months. I dunno where it came from but suddenly I was all, “I wanna buy makeup!” That feeling hasn’t hit me in quite a while so I embraced it and just enjoyed experiencing new makeup or even purchasing a few older items that were on my wish list for a while.

One item I went into a weird frenzy over was Tarte Tartelette Tubing Mascara. It was featured on Tiktok and of course, I feel into the dumbass trap of believing what this person was telling me about it giving her the longest lashes of her life. Sigh. I purchased it for $24 bucks (and of course, it was $12 dollars this week during Ulta’s 21 Days of Beauty Sale) and eagerly awaited the UPS man to drop it off. I was convinced it would be as amazing as my beloved Lights, Camera, Lashes.

I used it twice. Both times were uneventful. It’s sat in my mascara drawer ever since. I think it was released around June and it’s been sitting for that long in my drawer. The formula isn’t impressive sadly. At $12 bucks I’d give it a maybe! At $24, I’d say freak! Don’t waste your money as I did! Is it that bad? No, it isn’t bad it’s just not a mascara that performed well for me. I want longer, fuller lashes and this formula didn’t really give me that! Not to mention it was a bit difficult to remove.

Fast forward to 5.30am this morning and I’m sweating rivers while doing a boot camp session on my Peloton. I normally have a focus on my phone that only allows emergency calls from friends or family until 8:30. I also limit my app access during the week. I just find it helps me stay more focused to get things done in the morning if I’m not flicking around on my phone. I ended up taking a brief little minute while my little legs were pumping away on my bike to look at Tiktok (on Friday’s I lift my app restrictions and allow myself a little more social media access than I do Monday-Thursday) and the first video I see is a girl applying Tarte Tartelette Tubing Mascara on top of Lancome Cils Booster XL Vitamin-Infused Lash Thickening Mascara Primer. The results were so good I watched that Tiktok twice.

But guys, I wasn’t being tricked again! I wasn’t going to buy Lancome Cils Booster XL Vitamin-Infused Lash Thickening Mascara Primer just to try this out. After I hopped off that bike I got my sweaty ass upstairs and started searching through my mascara drawer as I knew I had a tube of that primer somewhere. And yes! I did! And I gave it a try.

This is so NOT a good picture! I’m a bit sweaty and looking rather flushed but hey, mascara on point! I also managed to wriggle the brush right up under my upper lash liner to give it that tightly lined look! Yay me!

And whoa. It worked! I’m pretty stoked about this because I felt rather badly I spent $24 bucks on a mascara that was sitting and rotting away in my makeup graveyard! If Tarte Tartelette Tubing Mascara is wasting away in your drawer and you have a mascara primer laying around maybe try this trick out and see if it works for you!

Good Luck!

Most consumer reviews say hard to remove. It’s tubing, right? Supposed to be warm water splash and gone. It got such sucky initial reviews on Ulta that I wrote it off. Thanks for confirming that.

noooo! Doesn’t work at all! not with water not with makeup remover! Too hard to remove!

I’ve been using the Tarte lash primer under it, I bought both in the mini size since I hardly ever use up a tube of mascara before it dries out. I love the combo! I have thought about the Lancôme primer, but it’s so much $$ do you think it’s worth it? There’s also a L’Oréal primer and they’re the same company, have you used that one? I pretty much only use tubing mascaras anymore because my hugest pet peeve is mascara under my eyes, no matter how amazing the formula!! The Caliray one is pretty good too but it dried up super fast and I only had a mini!

How do you feel it works on its own? I hated it. It just didn’t work well for me alone but with a primer WOW! I actually like the Lancome primer a lot. It’s one of the few primers that doesn’t goop up my lashes when I use it. I’m not sure I’d say RUN and get it at full price though. There’s 30% often lately with Lancome so maybe wait for a sale 😀 Which one because l’oreal has a few including the new paradise one!

Nope I do not like it on its own. I have been liking the Maybelline Sky High on its own, especially if I just want to look a little more natural. You can pile it on though! That did not layer well on top of the Tarte primer. The Loreal primer I saw recommended was the Voluminous one, do you have thoughts on that one?
P.S. If anyone likes Nudestix they have a clearance going on I just picked up some shadows!! Not a ton of selection left but just thought I’d share.

I thought essence no more panda eyes was better than Caliray. Not impressed by Wende’s current venture. The L’Oréal double end sucked. Blinc was great a decade or more ago, but every one I tried in the past 2 years has been old w/formula deterioration. I need tubing for lowers big time. What do you like for tubing?

I thought the Caliray dried up fast too. I felt it worked fantastic after a week or two in but by a month to a month and a half, I felt like it lost all its tubing magic and started smudging. PS, i love the Lancôme lash primer.

I saw this mascara was going on sale and knew I had a sample so I checked it out and bam!!! It was love at first swipe lol. I had recently fell in love with the Patrick Onesize mascara but I’m thinking Tarte may be my new number one or very close second. I made sure to snag 2 from the sale.

I bought this mascara but I haven’t tried it yet. I can only wear tubing mascaras. Right now my favorites are a Ulta branded one and the Heimish one (I feel like until recently, tubing was much more common among Asian brands than Western.) That being said, I find Lancôme’s lash primer to be a holy grail must have.

Mascara polymers started out strong but these days not so much. Seems to have coincided with the increased use of carbon black. Shame because for me the darker the better. But the polymers seem to do better with other iron oxides.

I really wanted the Tarte Tubing to work out alone.
