Can Someone Explain The Tarte Sale To Me? I Don’t Get It!

Can someone explain how the Tarte sale works? I don’t get it. I’m deadly serious. It sounds great in print: “Up to 70% Off sale plus an extra 20% off with code EXTRA20 and free shipping”. That sounds amazing but the 70% thing just isn’t adding up. I see some items with only a dollar or even three dollars knocked off the price. So, it’s like, maybe 25ish% off the total? Granted the print does read “Up to” but I did raise a brow at items that only had a dollar knocked off the original retail cost. Like dude, this isn’t a sale to me.

Example:

I’m seeing some fantastic deals for sure like the Precious Gems Amazonian Clay Cheek Palette is $29 and after the EXTRA20 code it’ll break it down to $17 bucks with free shipping (the same deal is at sephora.com by the way with code EXTRA20OFF)! Actually, a lot of the same deals are available at Sephora should you want to indulge there instead.

I think the moral of the story is this sale is a little disappointing. I’ve seen WAY better deals from Tarte during after-Christmas sales. There are still deals to be had though like the two below!

Tarte Positive Energy Eyeshadow Palette $19 (I have this palette! I purchased it full price when it originally came out and I quite like it! We really don’y need more eyeshadow palettes in our life but if you want something with soft, buttery shadows this is a nice one to grab)

Tarte Must-Haves Mascara’s Best Sellers Set ($24) or Merry Mascara Must Haves ($19) are two sets worthy of a haul as each one contains three full-size mascaras! Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes is one of my favorite mascaras and HGs so, I always stock up on it during a sale. Each of these sets has it as well as two other mascara formulas!

Is the sale good? Depends. There may be one or two items that catch your eye but for the most part that “Up to 70% Off” seems grossly exaggerated.

Let me know your thoughts on this sale!

It looks like it’s up to 70% off WITH the extra 20%, so everything is at least 20% off, some as much as 70%. I’ve seen lots of companies that do this.

but not really though. Like the serum foundation is $1 off and the extra 20% off that doesn’t equal 70% off.

I totally agree – very misleading for the consumer! I wondered where the 70% items off had gone!

This is unfortunately a classic style of hyping a sale to get you to look at their site. It’s the “up to” that lets them get away with this. So long as 1 item is 70% off, they can do this without being in trouble legally.

it’s so weird as they normally have fairly good sales all seasons and after xmas and this was like, “Wait, what?”

I think they’re using the gift set “value of” for some of that math. The Precious Gems cheek palette, for example – list price is $39, sale price is $29, BUT the set is valued at $90, making your savings almost 70%.

Definitely phrased that way for hype.
