4 stars out of 5

Juliette Has a Gun Lust for Sun is a new fresh, warm solar fragrance that launched for Summer 2023 and will become a permanent part of the fragrance’s house collection. I picked up a travel spray with my Sephora 20% off discount and I’ll be purchasing the full bottle before the sale ends as I absolutely loved this and think it’ll be a great Summer fragrance.

Lately, I’ve been very trepidatious with my Juliette Has a Gun purchases. It’s a house a used to blind buy larger bottles of but the last few launches I went with smaller purchases before committing to a bigger bottle. I love this house but it can sometimes disappoint me in terms of longevity and also, sometimes the scents aren’t quite to my liking. Pear Inc and Magnolia Bliss were two scents that come to mind when speaking about poorly purchased blind buys (thankfully, both were travel sizes when I brought them). They were nice enough but not exactly what I expected.

Since learning my lesson I went ahead and purchased Lust for Sun in the $30 (after discount $24) 0.3 oz mist. This is a very generous size of the fragrance and gives you plenty enough juice to play with and decide if you really need that larger bottle.

This is straight-up tanning lotion but it does give off a bit of a rich-y Hamptons Beach Club vibe. This isn’t a public pool tanning lotion! It’s luxurious, I’m spending the day at the Beach Club poolside vibe. The top notes consist of freesia, coconut, and bergamot. I get the freesia and coconut on the first mist but the middle notes race right in and I get a heavy dose of gardenia. There’s also ylang-ylang, jasmine absolute, and orange blossom at the heart but I feel like gardenia dominates so much of the fragrance even as it dries down and settles onto the skin that heady scent of gardenia remains. The coconut seems to settle more strongly during the dry down and plays nicely with the notes of vanilla and white musk base notes.

But facts are facts, this just smells like good old deliciously warm tanning lotion! It has that warm sun hitting the skin note that reminds me of Summer, the beach, and walking on a boardwalk when you get hit in the face by that heavy scent of tanning lotion.

I’ll absolutely purchase this in a full-size. I tend to not like beachy fragrances but this hits in a good way and I can def see this projecting well on a warm, humid day. It’s a fairly strong scent with good throw compared to some of Juliette Has a Gun other fragrances which tend to get eaten up by my body chemistry.

All in all, a perfect scent for Summer that’s well worth indulging in!

I completely agree that Pear Inc and Magnolia Bliss were disappointing. Especially the Pear – smells just like Not a Perfume in my opinion. Many years ago Victoria’s Secret had a scent called Pear Glacé. I was hoping this pear would be similar. Hard no.

I appreciate this review. I don’t like many beach fragrances either, but I think I might give this one a try.

It does! I agree! Also, I don’t really get pear at all from it 🙁 Let me know if you try it and what you think!
