NARS Afterglow Liquid Blush Review & Swatches
NARS Afterglow Liquid Blush ($32) is a new lightweight liquid blush that promises eight hours of hydrating color. NARS released these for Summer 2023 in six different shades including their cult-favorite shade, Orgasm. When these launched I immediately purchased Orgasm because not only do I love the shade but I was all about for having a liquid version of it. That being said, I do already own the original NARS Liquid Blush and I’m wondering what will happen to those…will the new Afterglow Liquid Blush take over that old pump packaging? They do seem considerably different to me in texture and finish but who knows perhaps NARS is embracing this easier to use packaging with a sponge tip applicator.
NARS Afterglow Liquid Blush arrives in an elegant coral square tube with a metallic rose gold top. It’s $32 and holds 0.23 oz of blush. The original Liquid Blush formula was $30 (now $32) and 0.5 oz in size. It’s crazy how much smaller newer releases are but I can say the Afterglow Liquid Blush is a damn good formula so, you’re getting quality for your $30+ dollars. If you’re wanting to compare these two formulas I’d say the new version is lighter in texture and easier to build with better color pay off. Both releases do have similar shades available but there are a few shades available in Afterglow that aren’t available in the original formula and vice versa. And of course, the packaging is vastly different. The original has a pump which was quite nifty and the new version a sponge applicator. Both are great packaging but it’s probably an easier swipe, blend, and go method with the new version. The applicator is nice and large as well and saturates nicely with product.
I only got the shade Orgasm to test the formula but I will be going back for a few month shades as this is really a great blush that you can’t apply wrong. I absolutely this formula. I thought it was going to be milky as the promo images gave it a weird look but thankfully it applied just as the Orgasm powder blush would but with a bit more of a sheerer and natural look. If you’re looking for intense this isn’t really the formula for you but if you want something natural and beautiful that can be built up you’ll adore this formula. It has a thin, creamier consistency and blends out very smoothly and evenly without clinging to drier areas. The finish is everything! It’s so seamless and natural looking. You absolutely can’t go wrong with application no matter how you apply. If you hate Orgasm because it’s too shimmery you might just like it in this formula as it isn’t nearly as shimmery and you get all that beautiful golden pink goodness without the the heavy duty shimmer of the powder version. It also wears incredibly long. I got 12 hours from this without any fading issues not to mention it really does have a nice hydrating feel without being greasy, shiny, or dewy as it sets to a smooth, silky finish.
NARS Afterglow Liquid Blush is lovely and well worth splurging on. I absolutely adore this formula particularly for the warm, humid days of Summer as it’s so light on skin! All in all, a great little luxury blush.
