2 stars out of 5

Pat Mcgrath Divine Blush: Legendary Glow Colour Balm ($29) is a new cream blush stick available in six shades that provides “glossy, gleaming color”. This is described as a radiant and glow-boosting blush. The marketing had me rolling around in fits of joy because as you know (since I’ve mentioned it too many times to count) I’m very into dewy skincare and makeup lately. It’s my new thang! And hey this formula was all about promoting glossy color and it had a formula that had some killer moisturizing ingredients like shea butter and squalane. Needless to say as soon as Divine Blush Legendary Glow Colour Balm hit Mother’s website I was on it and ordering up a shade.

I actually ordered only one and it was hard to decide which I wanted but I ended up the she Peach Lotus which is apparently the lightest shade. It arrived in a few days and I ripped the box open and was a little disappointed. There’s actually no glow or radiance here. You’re gonna get your serving of dew but as for glow, mmm, not so much! But that’s ok! The gel-like look of this blush stick had me hyped to try it and after I did I realized it wasn’t winning any awards for packaging nor was it going to get a major award for long wear but here we are with me wanting a shade or two more. Sometimes life is filled with beautiful makeup contradictions!

Pat Mcgrath Divine Blush Legendary Glow Colour Balm is $29 and 0.24 oz in size which seems to be on par with newer releases like Summer Fridays Blush Balm Lip + Cheek Stick with Hyaluronic Acid which is $28 at 0.18 oz. It comes housed in a very pretty Spring-like box decorated with pink and purple flowers. The blush barrel is a peachy pink shade and very lightweight. I think the presentation is beautiful but I will go so far as to say at $29 I’m somewhat shocked how crazy lightweight the packaging is. This feels very drugstore and not luxury beauty. I mean, this is Pat Mcgrath we’re talking about not Covergirl. I’ve had heavier barrels of blush stick from drugstore brands. I was shocked how light this was. It’s very cute but I dunno if we really want to use the adjective “cute” as something to describe Pat Mcgrath! I’ll admit I was a little worried (and I still am) that I’d twist it up and it wouldn’t twist down. Who here as purchased a swivel up product that twisted up just fine but you literally had to manually press it back down. That’s like my complete makeup nightmare! I hate when that happens. This gives me that bad vibe. So far, so good but I swear if I twist this up one day and it doesn’t go down I’m dming Mother myself to tell her of the packaging fail.

Peach Lotus was everything I wanted in a shade and more. It’s a very sweet soft, peachy coral! It’s very pretty and although there isn’t a glow or radiance to the finish it still delivers the glossiness and dewiness it promises. This formula is everything and more when it comes to providing soft, moisturizing color. It’s very hydrating, blends like a dream, and doesn’t cling to drier areas. It’s smooth, soft, and has an airbrushed finish that’s seamless and natural. They totally nailed it on the texture and consistency. The finish is equally divine. It’s lightly dewy but not sticky nor greasy. The dewiness does sort of translate as a pretty radiant glow on cheeks but sadly no shimmer or sparkle. I’d have probably tripped all over myself if this was dewy as well as a bit sparkly.

Sadly, it will win absolutely no awards for longwear. If you need your blush to last ten hours this isn’t the formula for you. It’s not very pigmented either. You really have to apply a few strokes to get a nice pop of color from it. But worst would be the wear time. As soon as I apply this it feels like it slips away into the great beyond. If I’m lucky I can get about an hour and a half of wear before the color fades and I need a touch up. It’s actually pretty easy to touch up and go with this but really, who wants to spend time touch up their blush every 90 minutes or so. It just doesn’t have enough grip or stick to withstand a long work day or a warm Summer day. You might be able to powder it down and see where it goes but that would take away from the pretty dewiness plus I’m dry and hate powder.

I had to use a level head when rating this one because my hand was tipped towards FIVE STARS FIVE STARS! But in the end I gave it two! Pat Mcgrath Divine Blush Legendary Glow Colour Balm is gorgeous and I can’t promise you I won’t buy more shades but sadly, the formula is lacking. The shorter wear time, the fact you really need to pile on color for good pay off, and the lighter, cheaper packaging is a buzzkill. Am I illogical and will I buy more? Very likely. Do I recommend you do so? Naa…wait for a sale.

Pat Mcgrath Divine Blush Legendary Glow Colour Balm is available now. Did you or will you try it?

Where to buy

Pat Mcgrath Sephora

Pat Mcgrath Divine Blush Legendary Glow Colour Balm is a new blush stick available in six shades that’s $29 for 0.24 oz. This is supposed to be a radiant blush with a dewy finish. I personally didn’t notice any radiance or glow from the shade I picked up which was Peach Lotus. This shade has a lightly creamy consistency with a pretty, natural, and seamless finish! It had a beautiful, light dewiness to it that translated to the finish but wasn’t sticky nor tacky or greasy looking. Sadly, the pigment is lacking and you need to build up the shade for the best pop but the worst part of the formula was the shorter wear time. This isn’t a long-wearing blush and it will slip off your face and fade away within an hour to an hour and a half into application.

Pros

  • Beautifully natural, seamless color.
  • Very pretty dewy finish that isn’t greasy looking.
  • Applies easily.

Cons

  • Sheer, needs a few layers for best color pay off.
  • Cheaper packaging for a luxury brand.
  • Very short wear time.

Who

Pat Mcgrath Divine Blush Legendary Glow Colour Balm is great for dry skin, anyone who doesn’t mind touching up their blush, or anyone that loves a dewy finish!
