Amazon Increased Shipping Costs and It Feels Like Everyone Else Has Too

Amazon has increased its shipping fees for non-Prime Members. Amazon used to have a $25 shipping minimum up till yesterday when they increased that to $35 or more. It’s not a massive change and it’s still very generous to ship an order entirely free that’s $35+ but does it feel like lately free shipping is becoming less and less common and that the threshold to get free shipping is creeping up more and more?

Hello, my name is Isabella and I’m cheap when it comes to shipping. I happen to be one of those weirdos who will willingly purchase a $300 eye cream and proceed to see that I have to pay $5.95 to ship it and cringe in agony. I’ve been conditioned to expect free shipping. I’m SPOILED and want free shipping. It’s odd because I didn’t grow up in a free shipping era. I remember back in the day that free shipping wasn’t a thing and most everywhere was charging anywhere from $5.95 to $9.95 to ship. But when Amazon Prime Membership became a standard in many households so did free shipping across retailers who wanted to compete with Amazon.

Not much has changed here though! I’m still a cheapskate when it comes to paying for shipping! And I’ll stupidly do my best to tip myself into a free shipping zone when I need to. However, today I was being good as I want to try out GXVE Paint It Up Eyeshadow which is 40% off but their shipping threshold is $50 and I just didn’t want or need anything else from the site. So, I safely backed away from my cart and left it. I felt accomplished doing so (let’s see how long I last)!

I think if things continue the way they have we might see more and more retailers increase the shipping threshold or even start to charge for shipping.

Are you okay with paying for shipping? Or is it something you’re frugal about?

Ugh, when I go on a new web site the first thing I do is look for what their shipping policy is. I’ve been spoiled by Amazon too. I found some jeans I like on a web site but it’s $9.00 for shipping no matter how much you spend. Which, if you spend a lot, is probably good. Not so for one pair of jeans. And they don’t have an exchange policy so if they don’t fit, you pay $9 to get them, probably at least $9 to ship them back and then another $9 to get another size. No thanks, I’ll drag myself away from my computer and go to the outlet mall. I hate to pay for shipping.

GIRLLL GIRLLL! this is so me. I consider the shipping cost and wander well what if I have to return this? Is it worth it? And in the end I shut down the cart! money saved LOL

I’m like you Muse. High free shipping thresholds make me ill. I’ve abandoned many a cart because I couldn’t find something else to buy to make the free shipping.

I honestly don’t really mind because I mail packages to family pretty often and it’s way more expensive than any sites are charging. Shipping costs are climbing so for me it’s just the cost of dong business.

I get the whole inflation thing, but seriously they are still making a profit, albeit maybe not as much as they would like. I think the free shipping threshold needs to stay lower rather than creeping higher and higher. I definitely have passed on many purchases because I couldn’t find something to buy to meet the free shipping threshold or simply because the shipping cost is too high. Online shopping used to be so worth it, but now they are making me think that some items are just waiting to buy when they come in stores.

I’m a shipping cheapskate . I have Prime mostly to get free shipping. If I order from somewhere and the total doesn’t meet the free shipping criteria it takes everything inside of me not to buy more things just to get free shipping. I have to remind myself I can pay a little amount for shipping or spend another $50+ for example and buy too much stuff to get free shipping.
