Respect to QVC for Keeping the Reviews Real

I struggle lately to find honest reviews on Amazon, Sephora, Ulta, and other retailers. Not only am I convinced retailers delete bad reviews (I’ve experienced it personally when I wrote a review on Sephora but it never appeared) but I’m also frustrated and irritated by consumers who get free products in exchange for raving reviews. I’m amazed at the amount of reviews on a product that shows “coming soon” on Sephora’s website but has over 200 positive reviews of how great it is. Sure, I understand the product was sent to people in advance but all positive reviews!?

Amazon is probably one of my biggest letdowns when it comes to reviewing not only products but books. I enjoy quite a few self-published authors that upload to Amazon but it’s beyond frustrating when I’m eagerly awaiting a book release and it’s been reviewed dozens of times over by readers who got an advanced copy and every one of those reviews has five stars. I’ll get the buy the book, download it, and read it, and it’s not a five-star read. Is anyone honest lately? Also, has anyone purchased some dodad for their kitchen or bathroom and it comes from the Amazon seller with a little card offering to give you either the same item or another item to try in exchange for a review?

Another one of my major pet peeves lately (this one is only between us ok?) is perfume reviews. I follow a ton of perfume bloggers, influencers, and Tiktokers and adore them but I feel like Kayali has some sort of major influence on these people. The raving and carrying about any new Kayali perfume does my head in. Guys, come on, it’s not that good a fragrance, be honest. I’m also noticing a lot of indie brands that are heavily influencing some of my favorite perfume peeps. The raving and carrying on about Etsy and indie fragrance sellers is a little insane. These people hype stuff up to the max and I’m a fool who buys it and walks around confused as to why I’m not loving it as much as they do. Anyway, this is my opinion on the review front lately.

But let’s talk about QVC for a second…QVC you’re the real deal. We love an honest retailer. QVC isn’t over their deleting reviews, QVC is all, “Say what the hell you want! We’re here for it!” Seriously, the scathing and poor reviews I read on QVC are the real deal, the salt of the earth consumers who are NOT happy with their new moisturizer because it didn’t completely erase their wrinkles or aren’t pleased that the cream eyeshadows they purchased aren’t as creamy as promised. QVC isn’t monitoring the reviews! They feel confident knowing they are going to sell their warez even if grandma purchased a Santa sweater at 3 AM and it turned up looking like Frosty and she immediately had her grandson type out a bad review of her purchase. QVC is going to keep on QVCing poor reviews and all. I respect that QVC. Keep on letting your customers speak their mind and their peace. It helps people make valid and smart purchases. We stan an honest retailer and we respect them for not filtering out the bad reviews in place of the raving ones. Don’t believe me? Head onto any beauty item across QVC’s website and you’ll find dozens of really bad reviews that SHOW up first and foremost. Thanks, QVC for keeping things real.

How do you feel about all the raving lately? Does it influence you or turn you off? Which products are being raved that are real letdowns? Which are the ones that work out? Do share!

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. If you’re that person feel free to reach out and leave a comment or follow me on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Bloglovin‘.

I 100% agree with you…it’s why I love your website and Temptalia. Real reviews from real people with real photos. I appreciate your website so much. When I wanted to try Milani’s lip oils….I immediately looked up your reviews. It’s so nice to have a trusted source on cosmetics.

    • Isabella Muse

aw thanks Mandy! This is the biggest compliment ever. I appreciate you that so much! <3!

I agree! When I am looking to purchase something I always look for the bad reviews first. I appreciated a company that isn’t afraid to post less than stellar reviews. And I agree with another poster who said they check here for a review. I have done that so many times!

  • Kimkats

Totes agree with you! “Curating” reviews is bullcrap- and eventually it’ll backfire on he retailer, once people figure out that nothing merits all five star reviews, so people won’t trust them any more. I always read reviews, even if others a jaundiced eye, because there are always a few bum reviews and some of the bum reviews are for dumb things like “ the box showed up dented but the product was fine”.

I wish no one would vet the reviews to weed out the bad ones, but that’s never going to happen. So long story short, I agree – kudos to QVC for not weeding out bad reviews!

I remember some Olay product on their website not being out yet and there were literally hundreds of glowing reviews. like WTF guys. Be straight with me. I do too lately. I sort of take them with a grain of salt. QVC it’s just a free for all of bad reviews and I’m here for it. And funny enough, after reading bad ones sometimes I still wanna try it for myself so it’s not hurting my QVC buying!

I completely agree with you! I’m so sick of brands not keeping reviews real. I have written reviews for several brands and because they weren’t positive, they weren’t posted. My reviews were all within their guidelines. So, there was no reason for them not to be posted. One particular brand of fragrance’s has nothing but positive 4 and 5 star reviews. The perfumes that I bought from them were not impressive at all! Very generic and cheap smelling (and they were $100+ a bottle). Plus, the bottles were very cheaply made. This company also has a no return policy. I proceeded to write reviews for them that were less than stellar. Reviews that were of my honest opinion. Well, my reviews were never published!! Very shady for a company to only post positive reviews. Now I know why the fragrances have such positive reviews (because that’s all they post!). I had a similar experience with another brand of fragrances (they are a rather popular brand and make perfumes that are similar smelling to designer scents). My order from them took over 3-weeks to get and the perfumes were very lackluster. Did not smell like the designer scent it was supposed to be a dupe for and the scent lasted only 30 minutes. Wasn’t impressed. But I noticed that at one time there was a 1 star review posted on one of their fragrances. The review had just been posted…..then when I went back to look at the review it was deleted. Very shady that they would delete that review and again only reviews that seem to stay up are the positive ones. I also agree with the Kayali fragrances. I get influenced by so many influencers raving about these scents that they get in PR. Only to buy them and end up not being impressed by them. Yes, we all have different scent prefernces….but sick of some influencers making basic scents sound almost “orgasmic” (like it’s the best scent in the entire world!). Then in their next video they are decluttering it. I always like to go to Fragrantica to see more honest reviews. It’s fragrance community based reviews and they seem to be more unbiased there. Lots of honest reviews on the Kayali fragrances there! But I hate when I see almost all the positive 5-Star reviews are from people who got the items for free. While I understand that some are honest reviews and some I trust. So, I never disregard a review because of that. The ones I don’t trust are the ones who rate every single item that they get for free as 5-stars! One particular reviewer on Sephora has 100+ reviews (with all products gifted to them for review purposes). And every single item they reviewed is 5-stars! Let’s be honest, not every single item out there justifies a 5-star review. It’s just annoying that some people will provide false reviews just because they got the item for free. Again, not everyone is like that (thankfully). But the ones that do that I find to be really annoying. I know this comment is long and drawn out. But this has been a topic that has frustrated me for a while. I’m so glad that you keep your reviews real and posted on this topic. I wish more people would acknowledge this issue and speak up on it.

That really sucks Raeanne! I’m so sorry you took the time out to write a review and it was deleted 🙁 I’m very frustrated with the perfume community lately. I used to enjoy reading reviews, watching tiktoks, and youtube reviews on fragrance but lately it’s SO MUCH hype and I end up being grossly disappointed with the scent when I try it! Kayali dominates the fragrance community lately! I think they released 7 scents alone this year and that’s due to the push they get from influencers to buy buy buy. I like Kayali but I find them incredibly overhyped to the max lately. They use very persuasive and appealing marketing to someone like me who loves sweet, fruity, and gourmand fragrances but sadly, the marketing is very exaggerated once you actually try the fragrance. There’s a lot of that going on with scents so glad you’re experiencing it too because sometimes I think I’m being crazy when I see this stuff. I follow one tiktoker (I won’t mention her name because I don’t want to call her out like that) whom I ADORE. She truly is an awesome tiktoker and has turned me on to so many fragrances. But I noticed now that her account has started gaining more followers she’s been receiving a lot of indie brands that she reviews and hyped up SOO much! “this is the marshmallow perfume of my dreams” and she does like five other tiktoks saying the same thing about five other scents. I’m confused is the first one the marshmallow scent of your dreams or are the four other ones you talked about the marshmallow scent of your dreams!??! After that she’ll do a tiktok where she’s selling it off on mercari. It’s like wait what? I thought it was amazing. I prefer Fragrantica as well but lately, I notice a few dishonest reviews creeping over there too! Some scents that haven’t even released yet are already reviewed which has me going hmmmmmmmm! I am so glad you commented today on this because I do a lot more makeup than fragrance but fragrance is my passion and I hate how the community has gone south lately! Thank you for sharing!

Yes and I agree with Mandy- if Muse says it’s worth buying and it’s a product I am interested in then it is 100% a blind buy for me

    • Isabella Muse

Melissa, you are SO sweet thank you for that. Truly, that humbles me. I appreciate that you trust me like that!

    • Kimkats

Same here! I trust my Muse infinitely more than anyone else, and since we’re skintwins, if it works for her it works for me!

  • Raven

Rant on, girl! I’m not too influenced by raving anymore. I’ve learned to do my research (which includes looking up reviews and swatches on sites like yours!) and make my own decisions. On larger consumer sites I sort by latest date and try to find a pattern in negative reviews but if everything’s too positive that’s just sus. There’s no one-size-fits-all product out there so I want to see the pros and cons!

    • Isabella Muse

Me too Raven! I def do a lot more research before I dive in (although, I can be tricked into purchasing fragrances when people hyped them up! That’s my weakness!). I sort my negative first too LOL! There are a few in there you can see! Or I just head over to reddit and get the scoop!

  • Rio

Thank u for talking about this when no one else does! I don’t put much credit on good reviews anymore. I remember waiting for a new Drunk elephant product to release and as soon as it did it had a few thousand top reviews w no negative comments. Just not believable anymore.
You always are honest in your reviews and it’s very much appreciated

    • Isabella Muse

oh wow thank you Rio! It def needs to be discussed because it’s rather insane how many reviews are glowing and absurd when it’s for a product that literally just dropped or isn’t even available yet. like how!? you have to question how valid these reviews are. Did these people really test the product long enough to write such glowing reviews?!?! It drives me nuts!

  • Laura

Yes! this is…frustrating. I’ve been banned from giving Amazon purchase reviews for a negative review years ago – the seller tried to buy a positive review & I called them out in it, wham, no more reviews from me allowed. 🙂 I’ve wanted to leave positive reviews on other things, but no can do. In spite of enormous efforts to research a product before buying, sometimes you just don’t get the truth. I do appreciate your reviews, thank you!

    • Isabella Muse

WHAT stop! really? Like completely banned from amazon reviews?! That’s insanity!
