My Lipgloss Doesn’t Have Enough SPF in It! No Problem I Got You!

Wakey, wakey! It’s Monday! Time to rise, shine, and be productive! Today we should probably discuss the lack of SPF in lip products or the fact we don’t have a lot of SPF lip products. It’s like we think about it a lot but our lips are just as vulnerable as the skin on our faces when it comes to being out in the sun. Exposure to the sun can increase premature aging that’s why protecting them is super important.

I always find SPF in lip balms, glosses, and lipsticks lacking. We either get a really dose of SPF 15, we don’t get it at all, or we get a formula that’s waxy and uncomfortable to wear. Prequel Lip Visor Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 30 PA++++ is a new lip balm that not only seals in moisture and hydrates but also, protects the delicate skin of your lips with a SPF 30. This apparently has the consistency of a gloss and adds shine and even color if you purchase the rose shade. But does it taste like SPF? I totally know what you mean! I always find lips products with SPF have a funky flavor but this is flavored with mint for a refreshing scent and flavor.

I haven’t tried it yet but it was making the rounds on Tiktok and I got curious enough to purchase a tube. I’ll let you know what I think! But if you’ve been searching for an lip product with a high level of SPF maybe Prequel Lip Visor Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 30 PA++++ will fit the bill!

How do you protect your lips?

I have yet to find an SPF lip gloss that isn’t gross in some way (texture, taste, etc.). But I love the Rohto Melty Cream Lip for everyday use! It’s not a gloss or tinted, so super unfussy and great for swiping on the go—I think it’s SPF 25 so pretty good for a lip balm, too!

same same same! I wear them but they don’t have great formulas! I haven’t tried that one! I love Rohto anything so I’ll give it a whirl thanks ;-D

Yes! I totally agree! I tend to have dry lips and am always looking for lip products with SPF. I use Beauty of Joseon or Round Lab for my face SPF everyday. But lip products are importantly too.

absolutely! I have dry lips on the daily anyway so I always want to protect them a bit more with SPF!

I just picked up a tube of the new Naked Sundays SPF 50 lip treatment in Cotton Candy. It was nice for about two minutes and then I got a little of the sunscreen taste and it ruined my afternoon. I have not found any SPF lip product that does not do this.

OMG I hate that. That’s the issue with SPF in lipglosses/balms/etc! It’s always that odd after taste : ( Hopefully Prequel is good!

I was super excited about this until I saw it has mint flavor- anytime I try anything minty I just get irritated. Sadness!! Oh well I keep looking.

I can’t take the sunscreen taste, so now I only use lip balms with mineral SPF. These have texture issues for the most part, however. The only two I like are Malin + Goetz SPF 30 (a bit whitening but blends in and super moisturizing) and the E.L.F. Sun Boss Gloss Tinted SPF 25 (good formula, not drying, but the shades are a bit odd)

I really like sun boss but do you find it drags a little with application?

      • Emily

Yeah, I do find that – I think it does best on already moisturized lips, which is a bit of a pain. Still the best tinted SPF gloss I’ve found. I’m trying out Iris & Romeo Weekend Skin Lip SPF 30, but it is too pigmented for me, and seems to bleed a bit.
