Spring Is Coming Time to Clean Up Your Makeup Stash

Yesterday we had our first real taste of Spring here in New York. The weather was in the 70s (but that evening we had the worst winds and rain! Ugh! Mother Nature WTF?), clear skies, sunny, and just gorgeous.

I’m starting to prep for Spring and started sorting through my clothing, accessories, and most importantly, my makeup stash. I always like to take a moment at the change of each season to really look through my makeup and skincare and ditch anything that may be expired or to rotate shades I’ll use most in that season. But also, it’s a good time to really look at what you have and reflect on who you might be able to help by donating it.

The perk of blogging beauty is brands will send a lot of very lovely items to you but the packaging they send it in can be incredibly wasteful at times. Beautiful yes, but totally wasteful. Especially when they are sending you fifty shades of one foundation or a huge boxed makeup set. It’s exciting to get but once the initial excitement wears of you realize you have this big box of stuff you probably won’t use half of.

Even if you aren’t blogging beauty I’m sure you accumulate a lot of makeup, skincare, and personal care items. As a beauty junkie, I know how that feels. Endless shower gels, scrubs, moisturizers, and on and on and on. I’ve really reigned myself in and I’m a lot more selective with how purchase makeup and other beauty but I still manage to have quite a lot at the end of the day.

Get online and do your research because there are tons of organizations that really want and need your gently used makeup and beauty products. There are some you can ship your products to but I always find going local is the best bet. Donate to local women’s shelters or to organizations that support younger girls or domestic abuse victims. Sometimes Midnight Run also accepts shampoos, shower gels, etc….! I think we sometimes forget how much we can accumulate and how many people really need it more than us.

Cleaning out your closet, bathroom shelves, etc…will remind you how much you have and how others aren’t as lucky. This is a reminder to go de-stash a bit and donate it to someone that truly needs it!

Happy Spring Cleaning Days ahead my friends!

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. Great idea, Muse! Some of what I have is too old to donate or too used, but a lot isn’t.

😀 Seriously, blankets, coats, etc…even older they are still very helpful to those in need 😀

I really need to do another cull – thought I had done enough but I still havewaaay too much. Especially since I’m going to retire at the end of the year;I need to pass on a bunch to others who will enjoy and use it.

Project beauty share is a great place to send lightly used makeup. It’s in Spokane Washington and I’ve sent Mose stuff there than I care to remember….

Congrats on retirement! That’s awesome! They are! I really like them! I tend to go more local as I find it easier but PBS is brilliant!

I always want to do this, but I cannot find, for the life of me, organizations that will accept gently used cosmetics. It usually has to be unopened. To date, the easiest one for me to donate to is Project Beauty Share, but I often consider what is considered as gently used makeup. Swatched a couple of times? Do dips in the pan? Etc.

I have so many I’d like to donate in part because I’m not wearing really pigmented eyeshadow lately. Even my colorful ones are just lighter, shimmery washes. Still not wearing browns, though. Never browns. LOL!

It takes a little research but they are out there. Some online that you can ship to but that’s always a pain so I just try to do local as much as I can. It just takes a little research to find the place that will be up to take it. Gently used for them is in relative good condition with at 70% of the product in the palette. Awww no browns….! WHAT? Which reminds me, I need to get you a package I have. I have the mac blush you want and other things. Le sigh. I’m so sorry for the delay!

No worries, Muse! I’ll actually be in New York in November for a cousin’s wedding. Can we meet up (finally) then? I’ll text you later when I know the exact dates.

And yes, no browns! Brown has got to be one of my worst colors. LOL! Maybe a deep, shimmery brown or a very light wash for contouring, but that’s it. No copper either. LOL!

Christina, take a look at Project beauty Share in Spokane, WA. I have sent several boxes of gently used MU to them!! I hope this is ok to link to the list of thinks they accept – but they are grateful for everything they get and I think it’s a very worthy organization.

This is a list of the things they can/will take.
      Hth!

We have a friend on the board of the local women’s shelter. I called him because I can’t wear eye makeup anymore and I have a lot of palettes, mostly UD. He said they won’t take anything that isn’t new and sealed. So I guess I have to keep looking around. I would like to find a good home for them.

Awww sorry to hear it. Good Luck! I hope you find something local. There are MANY online but you do have to ship to them sadly!

Fantastic idea! I’m putting some things out in my office – like samples I’ve received and creams or lotions for the teens in my school.

that’s lovely! I am 100% positive they will adore it!
