Free Shipping for Sephora Rouge, VIB, and BI Members with a Catch

As you know Sephora recently did away with their Flash Shipping service.

Earlier in the month their terms and services were updated with the following message regarding the Flash Shipping program:
Prior to June 15, 2022, the FLASH annual subscription was, renewed automatically; this feature has been disabled as of June 15, 2022 and all subscriptions that were current as of that date will end one year after the date they were started or last renewed.

What was Flash Shipping?
Sephora Flash Unlimited 1-2 Day Shipping was originally a free service for Rouge Members but earlier on 2-Day Flash Shipping was a $10 option available to anyone that made purchases. It went through a few changes where the price was $15 for non-Rouge Members and was even offered as a reward you could select when your Rouge status was renewed for a new year.

It wasn’t something that really benefited me, to be honest as many of my orders came within 4-5 days and never 2 but many people were pretty upset when they just up and did away with it completely earlier in the month.

They have now since revised this and sent out a notice that reads:
We want to keep you informed of some changes happening to the Beauty Insider program as we work hard to provide all members with meaningful and exciting benefits. We’re updating our Beauty Insider benefits to include free standard shipping on all qualifying online purchases in the U.S. and Canada. This change will go into effect 9/21/22.

The wording in their Beauty Insider Member Rewards Benefits FAQ now reads as:
All Beauty Insider members will receive free standard shipping on all qualifying online purchases in the U.S. and Canada when they make a purchase of $50 or more. VIB members will receive free standard shipping on all qualifying online purchases in the U.S. and Canada when they make a purchase of $35 or more. Rouge members will receive free standard shipping on all qualifying online purchases in the U.S. and Canada. The standard shipping Benefit is not valid on international shipping, on Kohls or JCPenny!

You must check out with a valid Beauty Insider account to receive the standard shipping Benefit. Benefit has no cash value. No adjustments on previous purchases. Benefit is non-transferable. Benefit subject to change, alteration, or termination by Sephora in its sole discretion at any time.

I have to be honest the wording confused me a bit at first. But it breaks down as BI members will receive free standard shipping on $50 orders or more. So, really, not free if you make a smaller purchase of say $10 bucks! Same for VIBs as you need to make a purchase of $35 and Rouge will be free on any purchase.

I’m not sure if my e-mail is targeted. I’m a Rouge Member and it does state I get free shipping but it does say “ALL MEMBERS”. That, to me, implies that Rouge, VIB, and BI would get the same benefit. That e-mail is worded a bit wrong if it was sent out to everyone. However, if it was just sent to Rouge Members it’ll make a bit more sense I guess.

If you got a different e-mail I’d love to hear what yours says.

As of now, Sephora continues to disappoint us with their really bad rewards system.

Hopefully, we see changes to the program soon!

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. I got the same email, briefly looked at it and then deleted it. Sephora has lost its appeal for me, and I am inclined to shop with Ulta unless they don’t carry a product that only Sephora does. Sephora really isn’t trying to keep me as a shopper anymore. I’m rouge now but won’t be much longer as I’m just not shopping with Sephora that much these days.

I started getting Flash Shipping a few years ago so that I could buy as little as one lipstick and get free shipping so I was disappointed when they cancelled it. I used to be a VIB but now I’m just a BI because I stopped wearing a lot of makeup during the pandemic. This $50 limit is even higher than the $35 at Ulta, which I struggle to reach so I guess I won’t be ordering much from Sephora. For me, this whole thing is a bummer. And yes, I did get both of these emails.

Hellsbells, at least you GOT an email!! I’m BI and I got squat. Which is probably what Sephora is going to get from me from now on….. Ulta is really starting to rule my world now; sephora has definitely taken a back seat, even tho there are 2 Kohl’s sephoras, and a “real” sephora here now. I remember when the JCP one opened here _ I thought I’d died and gone to heaven. now it’s like “meh”

I’m so sorry 🙁 I thought it was a mass email! If it makes ya feeling better I didn’t get the original one where they said they were doing away with Flash but others got it.

It will be free for every order if you are a beauty insider after 9/21/22 with no minimums. If you keep reading further down in the terms they link to, you will see the section titled: Terms effective: September 21, 2022. Here it states:
    Standard Shipping Benefit
All Beauty Insider members will receive free standard shipping on all qualifying online purchases in the U.S. and Canada.
The standard shipping Benefit is not valid on international shipping or on Kohls.com.
You must check out with a valid Beauty Insider account to receive the standard shipping Benefit. Benefit has no cash value. No adjustments on previous purchases. Benefit is non-transferable. Benefit subject to change, alteration, or termination by Sephora in its sole discretion at any time.

I’m seeing: All Beauty Insider members will receive free standard shipping on all qualifying online purchases in the U.S. and Canada when they make a purchase of $50 or more. So there seems to be a minimum for VIB and BI.

I literally clicked the link in the e-mail and used the Ctrl+F function to search the word shipping and came up with the same words you’re quoting here, Muse.

        • Isabella Muse

Not sure where it was she saw it said “free shipping for all” I’d love a screenshot as I read it as there was a minimum purchase for BI and VIB. Thanks for confirming LOL because I’ve been known to make mistakes!

      • Francesca

I wish I could post a screenshot. Scroll down further in the terms until you think it’s over (after item #17) and then it starts again with new terms that go in effect 9/21. Here it removes all of the minimum dollar amounts under the free shipping section.

        • Isabella Muse

weird! On line 17 I see: Additional Information on the Program If you have any questions regarding the Program, you may email Customer Service at [email protected] or call 1-877-SEPHORA. On line 4 I see:4. Certain Tier Benefits and Rewards Explained
          Standard Shipping Benefit

All Beauty Insider members will receive free standard shipping on all qualifying online purchases in the U.S. and Canada when they make a purchase of $50 or more.

VIB members will receive free standard shipping on all qualifying online purchases in the U.S. and Canada when they make a purchase of $35 or more.

Rouge members will receive free standard shipping on all qualifying online purchases in the U.S. and Canada.

The standard shipping Benefit is not valid on international shipping, on Kohls.com or on jcpenney.com.

You must check out with a valid Beauty Insider account to receive the standard shipping Benefit. Benefit has no cash value. No adjustments on previous purchases. Benefit is non-transferable. Benefit subject to change, alteration, or termination by Sephora in its sole discretion at any time.

          • Francesca

Go PAST line 17. It starts over with new terms that go in effect 9/21/22.

Then, on line 4 (in the new terms), it says

            Standard Shipping Benefit
All Beauty Insider members will receive free standard shipping on all qualifying online purchases in the U.S. and Canada.
The standard shipping Benefit is not valid on international shipping or on Kohls.com.

Benefit is non-transferable. Benefit subject to change, alteration, or termination by Sephora in its sole discretion at any time.

            No minimums are listed!

    • Karen

So basically no true benefit of spending $1000 + dollars a year for that Rouge membership…

  • Jill

I got the same e-mail yesterday and this is part of an ongoing conversation my sister and I are having. Ulta and Sephora have handled the pandemic and quarantine in vastly different ways. I’m only Insider, so this ‘perk’ does nothing for me and other Insiders. $50.00 was always the minimum spend for orders and if you use their new FREESHIP code, then you can’t use any other promo codes.
It’s almost like Sephora wants to alienate shoppers on a budget…

    • Isabella Muse

Sephora def has issues they need to fix and fast! They are bleeding away their followers with these stupid rewards!

  • kjh

Didn’t get this email because I unsubscribed to Sephora >1year ago. It doesn’t show up in my 4 most visited sites (although you do.) Ringing endorsement? I unrung that bell.

  • Karen Mannix

I just checked the email I received on Tuesday. I’ve dropped down to BI. This is what it said word for word:
“We’re updating our Beauty Insider benefits to include free standard shipping on all qualifying online purchases in the U.S. and Canada. This change will go into effect 9/21/22.”
So, if you read it quickly you’d think “excellent, free shipping” BUT there’s a teeny, tiny link at the very bottom that explains Terms and Conditions and there goes free shipping.
    That might explain the confusion.

    • Isabella Muse

I think their “free shipping” version has a minimum purchase requirement, which sucks! Tricky wording!
