Bath & Body Works Lost Their Damn Mind with These Halloween 2023 Collection Prices

I’m not REALLY into the Bath & Body Works Halloween 2023 Collection. I like goth and some of these pieces are very elegant goth! They would actually look amazing in our home (I live in an old Victorian). I think what I find unappealing about the collection is I always think of Bath and Body Works having more whimsical pieces during the Halloween season and this year sh1t is really, really serious. And I’ll go so far as to say I’m cool with that but the second reason the collection loses some appeal is I literally have so much Halloween decor I don’t feel inclined to purchase anything I don’t absolutely have to have. I’ve been walking through Home Goods lately and putting things in my cart only to take them out again because I realize they aren’t special enough to add to my collection. I have more Halloween decorations at this point than I do Christmas ones. It’s pretty crazy. I take this Holiday super seriously, to say the least.

But there is one thing I’m really concerned about and that’s the price jack on Bath & Body Works Candle Holders and Luminaries lately.

Facts are facts, we are in the middle of inflation, and just about everything we eat, wear, buy, or need is pretty high at the moment. Makeup prices have gone up, grocery prices have gone up, etc…etc.. I can understand a price raise of a few dollars but some of Bath & Body Works prices have reached an all-time high. I have a few of the 3-Wick Candle Luminaries from Christmas and Halloween. The Bath & Body Works Holiday House 3-Wick Candle Luminary for Holiday 2016 was $79 and back then I was complaining about the price! I also have the Bath & Body Works Haunted Inn 3-Wick Candle Luminary from Halloween 2018 and that was $98. Both of these items I purchased with a coupon at the time that was 20% Off and I still remember cringing at the time.

Fast forward to 2022 and the price increase is over 50% of what it was. We have a new Bath and Body Works Haunted House Luminary that holds a single 3-Wick Candle (Yes, only one candle at this price) which is…can I get a drum roll, please? $250! Let me say that again. Two hundred and fifty dollars. Ok, I’ll defend it and say it looks very cute and has some amazing details on it compared to some of the other Luminaries I own and that Bath and Body Works has released.

However, $250 is absurd. That’s just crazy. Even with a 20% off coupon, I wouldn’t splurge on it. I could be grossly wrong but I don’t think they are going to sell this out before it hits a sale. They’ll have to make it at least 50% off before it actually sells out. I can’t see someone, even a collector, paying full price. I just can’t believe it’s $250 dollars. Granted, this isn’t new because the price for the larger luminaries has been around $250 back in 2020 and 2021. It’s just still shocking to see it.

Not to mention some of their candle pedestals this year are $60+. I don’t understand how the prices have increased so dramatically. I can see prices going up $10 maybe $20. But this price increase is just HOLY HELL WTF!?
What do you think of the Bath & Body Works pricing lately? Am I being cheap or is this insanity?

No, you aren’t insane, nor are you being cheap. $250 for something like this IS insane.
I have been yelling from the rooftops lately, telling anyone who will listen, that people need to stop buying crap they don’t need at these exorbitant prices. If we, as consumers, stop purchasing things like this, the companies will either pull back on offering them or eventually lower the prices.
It’s the only way prices will fall. Supply and demand. I hope people won’t pay $250 for this, or even at 20% off.

I’m sitting here laughing at $250 because for that amount of money, I could pay my cellphone ($60), internet ($55), water ($60), hulu ($16), and SiriusXM ($12) bills and not have spent $250.
Or think of the groceries one could buy with $250. BBW is delusional. But I could be wrong, people might not care and have the attitude of “I want what I want” and that is fine.
However, for me, I couldn’t justify spending that kind of money on something like this.

I think BBW, in general, has upped their prices to the point where it’s not feasible to shop there.
I only go when there is a sale and I have a coupon, for example last week they had $12.95 candles, plus I had a 20% off coupon.

That’s the scary part. People are buying and even calling out people like me for being “whiney” about the price. But dude, this is over 50% of a price jack! Does no one see that? I don’t mind spending $$ on quality items but for $250 I can get something nicer from the Pottery Barn Halloween Collection. This price point for BBW just ain’t it. I can understand that inflation set in and everything has gone up but this is beyond inflation in my opinion! I question how much it is to make something like that because I’m 100% sure they are making a nice profit on it if someone buys at $250!

I agree you’re not being insane or cheap. It makes me wonder if BBW saw that some people were buying up their Halloween collection for the sole reason of reselling it, on EBay or Mercari for instance, for crazy high prices and BBW realized they can be the ones selling them at crazy high prices and make those profits instead. I also prefer more whimsical Halloween than what they are doing this year and cuter too personally.

    • Isabella Muse

Oh you are so right. People literally sell out everything around me at Home Goods, TJ, BBW, any other stores and I see them all on Mercari selling at crazy jacked up prices. The new hot item this year is the Headless Horseman Statue that’s been seen Homesense and Home Goods. people are selling it for $200+ dollars and it retails for $39. Crazy!

  • Kgirl11

    Thank you for saying it!!
    It is insane.
    Stay strong, don’t buy.
They probably will sell out though because they probably only have like 20 of them that they expect to sell

    • Isabella Muse

Someone had to LOL! 🙂 Too true! Too true! I feel like things selling out totally means the stock simply isn’t there!

  • Sarah

I know I just commented almost the same thing on the first BBW Halloween post, but I promise it’s relevant…I have the very first Slatkin haunted house luminary from 13ish years ago and when I saw this post, I ran down to the basement to check the price tag on the box out of curiosity. $35!! And it’s WAY cuter than this $250 one. I used to be embarrassed by my large luminary collection but now I feel like I bought them up at the right time. Lol.

    • Isabella Muse

MAN! that’s an insane markup! I’m a little shy about my collection too lol but I’m glad I got them when I did because jeez the prices now. I even have the giant snowman one from a few years ago! I need to check the price on that one because no way it was over 100 dollars!

  • Tracy Donley

I’m with you, Muse! I was stunned when I accidentally bought one of their lip balms (akin to chapstick) that turned out to cost $9!! However, those Halloween/fall PocketBac Holders are pretty darn cute. Might have to grab one. 🙂

    • Isabella Muse

Damn! It’s just so high lately! I think I’m sort of good on the Halloween Pocketbac holders as I have several hundred of them lol! ;-D

your b&bw reviews are my fav! i didn’t see anything that i HAD to have this year for the first time in forever. halloween is my fav holiday and i am always looking for great stuff but this year i see nothing that i HAVE to have so far. i usually sit in front of my computer, make my list and wait for them to come out with the fall products and this years so far it has been underwhelming. i buy all the pumpkin candles when they go on sale so i have a ton of all i need right now.

i love the links to your old posts so i can see the older b&bw products and designs. they need to reissue some of that stuff!

Price is subjective – when you make $60,000/yr versus $250,000/yr… $250 does a lot at different income levels. I bought it, I don’t regret it, it’ll be a nice centerpiece for years to come.

    • Isabella Muse

Actually, income has nothing to do with it. $250 for a candle holder that was $79-89 is an incredibly big price jump.

    • Jenny Backman

I bought it and love it too! Although I do think it should cap at around $150.
