Natasha Denona Final Sale No Exchange at Sephora

Select palettes from Natasha Denona are final sale with no exchanges at Sephora. I saw a discussion about this on Reddit and went to investigate and it appears select palettes have a little listing that states, “Final Sale: No returns or exchanges”. There also appears to be a “LEARN MORE” hyperlink next to the no exchange warning but you can’t click it. Redditors think that perhaps it means that Natasha Denona is pulling out of Sephora especially since now Ulta sells the brand but I don’t think that’s the case at all.

Why do I believe otherwise? Because not every single item from the brand has this warning. If you click on lipsticks, her new primer, concealer, etc…the warning is not in place. It only appears on the palettes. I’m pretty concerned about this. Not because I’m worried Natasha Denona will disappear from the shelves but because it may mean certain brands are working with Sephora to crack down on returns. We all know stores and brands are losing money daily with the excessive amount of returns they get and this may be an early warning sign that things are about to change in a major way.

A lot of stores have changed their generous return policies including Nordstrom and Macy’s with the window for returns being a lot smaller than they once were. If I’m right and Natasha Denona is working with Sephora to not offer returns that could mean more brands will do the same.

We all know returns are unheard of in other parts of the world like Europe and Australia. We might just be headed in the same direction if people keep buying excessive amounts of makeup and proceeding to return it all within a month of the purchase.

What do you think this “FINAL SALE” warning is about? Is Natasha Denona leaving Sephora or is Sephora’s return policy becoming stricter?

I used to work at Nordstrom years ago and you wouldn’t believe the returns which definitely affected us as we worked on commission and had goals to meet. Now I work for Ulta and don’t make commission so the liberal return policy doesn’t affect me wallet. I can see returning a faulty product or something that was matched wrong but because you changed your mind? Nope. Unopened or unused product that can be resold is a different story but you shouldn’t be allowed to test run or rent makeup.

But does corp or management get on you for excessive returns? I hear sephora employees kind of get the brunt of it if their store has excessive returns and management sort of steps in on them about it. I agree 100%. I dislike the mentality of people buying excessive amount of product, not liking it, and deciding oh well, return it. Also, people buying several concealer or foundation shades as an online purchase to fit their match and returning the rest because it didn’t match. Dude that stuff is going in the trash all because you didn’t know which shade would fit you! Ouch! Come on. Think before you buy!

My take on returns: since more and more stores are stocking things online only, sometimes I am forced to buy it online. As we all know and can agree on, swatches online are NEVER what the actual product ends up looking like when you receive it. I don’t know about anyone else, but I work hard for my money – and I don’t make a lot to begin with – so you better believe I will return a cosmetic item that I received and did not like the color. I will not just chuck it in the trash. Not only is that wasteful, but I’m out money. I just ordered a Milani lip balm from Ulta because they weren’t in store. The color on the website was way off from the actual product. We’re talking the swatch online looked plum but in reality it was brick red/maroon. Not something I would wear, as I did try it on. I’m sorry, I’m not wasting $11 on something I absolutely will not wear.

There needs to be a happy medium. I agree with your statement saying after a month people are returning items because they changed their minds. When I order cosmetics online, I try everything right away. Anything I don’t like or the color is completely different goes back.

What are other people’s thoughts? I guess I assumed most people are the same way.

It’s a double-edged sword Carol but you’re 100% right. You work hard for your money and if you blindbuy it and the color is way off you should absolutely return it without hassle. I think we’re all just paying for the fact people buying excessively and either have buyer’s remorse or they just buy a few shades of concealer, foundation, etc..in the hopes of getting a good color match and end up returning. Those are the people that are ruining it for others 🙁

Given the number of palettes that I have received broken in the mail from Sephora over the years (including at least two ND palettes!!), this just makes it even less likely that I will order from Sephora. As it is, I’ve started asking the clerk to open palettes in the store before I pay for them, to make sure I don’t bring home a broken one. If I can’t even return something like that through poor mail handling/packaging, then I’m just not going to order at all. Ulta gets the vast majority of my $$ these days as it is, and with every new brand they add, it just increases!

it their defense it isn’t really their faulty but likely the carrier that being said they still do need to be accountable for broken items! omg I DO THIS! That totally provoked inspiration for a post Jen thanks! I def have them check oo haha! Same here, Ulta has become my go to girl lately!

I just had a strange interaction doing a return at my local Sephora (free-standing store, not Ulta). I had purchased the Sephora Favorites Perfect Pout Lip Kit (on your recommendation, such a great deal!) but unfortunately, the shades were all a little too dark for me. When I returned it the other day (with receipt, package opened to visually inspect but ALL PRODUCTS SEALED AND UNTOUCHED) and the gentleman at the register tried to tell me they couldn’t take it back because it was a “best of” with different brands. I pushed back politely. He then told me he couldn’t accept the return because it was missing the “voucher”. I said repeatedly there was no voucher (like in their mini perfume samplers for a later full-size purchase), because 3 of the products were already full sized, which is why it was such a good deal. He finally said “I’ll do it for you this one time”. I was fairly irritated by the whole transaction, but left feeling smug that I thwarted him. It did make me wonder, because I’ve never had a pristine return like that questioned at Sephora and at age 65, I’ve been going there for at least 30 years.

at ulta no one says anything about the amount of returns…..and I have gotten better at it not being my money(commission)so it doesnt really get to me as much….probably my age LOL.
Stock issues are an issue and definitely make return policies the saving grace. that to me is totally different. and returning unused products that can be resold is different too.
with the economy the way it is I am always shocked how busy Ulta and Sephora are…..the amount of money people spend always surprises me. I am in small town Tennessee and they love Ulta….the closest Sephora is almost a hour away.
Theft a much bigger issue in my opinion. its a weekly occurrence and appearanty a business. the people that steal are bold and unafraid!! sometimes we get it back but most often not
they are not loosing money …. the mark up on cosmetics is crazy

I’m sort of shocked too. I’m in NY but I get shocked with people spending as well not just at Sephora/Ulta but everywhere. I see people with huge carts loaded up in Home Goods and sure, it’s a very affordable store but still…especially when they have three kids in tow as well. The economy is awful right now but people are still spending money I feel they might not have!
