Makeup? Who’s She?!

Hey, is this thing still on? I think it’s still working right? Hey, friends. What’s the story? Did you miss me a little bit? Did you miss me as much as I missed you is a better question? My ego could use a soft stroke or two.

We’re headed into April soon and I stopped actively blogging with a few posts here and there nearly a year ago. Kind of wild it’s been one year without me yelling at you about some new makeup launch.

Makeup, well, makeup and I still have a love affair from time to time. We aren’t actively dating at the moment and maybe, just maybe we went through a divorce period but it was mutually agreed upon and I got the house, the car, and the emergency bag of NERDS Gummy Clusters. We currently co-parent the last pot of MAC Parrot Eyeshadow together and we’re relatively in a very healthy relationship at this point in our lives. The other day my makeup collection came up to me and said bella, you look 12 years old, maybe you could just haul out a little blush, slather on a little eyeshadow, you don’t need a full beat, girl but at least add a little color into your natural face life, babe. And I was all, ehhh, maybe, let me ask the Internet first.

Life changed this past year and sometimes too much of a good thing can be tiring and beauty got tiring. The beauty bubble broke years ago and I honestly, don’t know if it’ll ever make a full come back for someone who lived through the Urban Decay Subway Token Eyeshadow era. I got this weird itch to waddle back into my Y-Girl life after I stopped blogging and I embraced it so hard my head near spun off my shoulders. If you’ve been here a while you remember the Lakorn and K-Drama Days and of course, the manga that came along for the ride with it all. Hell, most of you know all my weird and unusual interests like late night WOW sessions, Age of King binges, and overanalyzing Doctor Who episodes like the Queen nerd I am. What’s it like being a Y-Girl at my age? I dunno. It doesn’t seem any different than it did several years ago. The only difference was makeup isn’t part of that world at the moment. I was the girl walking around the house in my pajamas with a full face of makeup on while I did all the stupid viral things on Tiktok like make banana bread during the pandemic. What a time to be alive! At that point most people were embracing their self care era and I was like, “naaa! I’l wear red lipstick today and a bunch of eyeshadow while I re-organize the pantry and have a zoom meeting!”

The irony is the pandemic was over and that’s when I finally said, hey, I think I need a break to do things I love! Which is odd because maintaining Musings of a Muse was a thing I LOVED. But somewhere along this wild, wild ride of a blog I fell out of love. It became a chore, a task I had to do everyday, and that’s when I realized, I think I need a break from this to do things I let fall to the curb side. And here I am one year later telling you all about how makeup wasn’t part of my life for almost 365 days.

My makeup roo, she’s still here, waiting for me quietly to return. Musings of a Muse also, still here. But probably not as quiet lately as right now she’s tapping at my brain, brush her fingers across the back of neck, just subtle reminders that she’s here, waiting, wondering, is today the day I’ll write about the latest concealer or rant about the new Rare Beauty Eyeshadow Palettes.

Where do I go from here is the question?

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. If you’re that person feel free to reach out and leave a comment or follow me on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Bloglovin‘.

We missed you too! For someone was was so obsessed that they even have a MAC tattoo on themselves.. I haven’t worn makeup more than a half dozen times in a year. Maybe less. It happens. I think life speeds up and the time goes by faster and I haven’t really wanted to spend time sitting in front of a mirror applying makeup that I’m just going to take off. Oh well. Shrug. Hope you are well!!

  • Kathleen Harris

Yeah, I broke up with makeup too. Sometimes, life throws you a curveball you never expected. My life changed and so did I. Makeup was no longer fun. I still enjoyed reading your posts though! The pretty colors are still fun to look at. 🙂

  • Gabrielle

So happy you are finding things that fill your cup. Makeup will always be there if/when you want to return 🙂 Glad you are safe!

    • Isabella Muse

Aw thanks so much my dear! <3! I'll check and try to get back to this!

  • Amy

Muse! It’s my lucky day! I check your your blog hoping for a post from you. Today is the day!
I’ve been a follower for years. I’m usually in the bushes. Thanks for the update.

    • Isabella Muse

Awww amy thank you so much! I truly appreciate you being here with me 🙂

I am fairly over makeup lately too. But I will still read the heck about any and all Lush products. Back in my bathing era I guess.

    • Isabella Muse

Amen to being back in my bathing era too! It’s good therapy to just sit in a hot bubble bath!

  • Janet M

Well I’ve missed reading this blog; I’ve been a big fan of Musings of a muse for years. But, I totally understand about falling out of love with makeup. I’m a makeup lover/ collector /hoarder but the truth is I barely use the 50 plus tubes of lipstick, blushes and foundations ‍♀️ I own. The market unfortunately is over saturated with constant releases which I thankfully refrain from buying lately. I do enjoy reading about it. I look forward to reading your blog if you decide to return

    • Isabella Muse

It’s so sad that we are all out of love with makeup lately! I’m back sort of 🙂 I hope you’ll stick around!

  • Katie

I was just thinking about you yesterday! Hope all is well in your world.

Seems we all have been taking time to reflect.

Some small beauty talk: Castor oil. You probably reported on it a while back. Looks like it has a similar molecule as the prostaglandin analogues lash lengtheners have.

Worked well for me. But as you say, the daily routine is getting tiring. However it is nice that you and the posse are still here to talk about the right type of concealer for one’s skin type.

Maybe we can have creative fun with the artificial intelligence.

    • Isabella Muse

AI would be awesome for a blog right? And hells yes castor oil is all that and a multitasking whiz kid!

  • Ponee

I’ve missed that headband. This site was a staple for me for so long. Glad to see you’re back. Drop us a post once in a while;)

  • Elise

Grrrrrl! It’s felt like my “online friend” was missing in action. I literally decided to check on you today and here you are! Do what brings you joy! Those of us who love you have held on for your return…in any form/fashion you choose. We’ll be here. Hugs and kisses x0x0x0x

    • Isabella Muse

AWWWWWWWWWWWWWW I’m here I’m here I’m here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂 Thanks for hanging tight while I got myself back into makeup! We’re still besties forever!

  • Dee

I’ve missed you! Glad you are doing well and doing what is best for YOU!

I have not broken up with makeup and wonder sometimes if I am the only one. I have days where it feels good to NOT wear any, and I enjoy those days. But more often than not, I enjoy putting it on. We have to do what is good for us!

    Take care of yourself, Muse!

    • Isabella Muse

thanks Dee! I sure did miss you all! I hope you re-join me here!

  • Robin

Hi! I thought you went into witness Protection! Lol
I like makeup, but life got heavy. I’m an only child and I been blessed with great parents. It’s the weirdest feeling trying to take care of them. It’s hard to see my mom with Alzheimer’s. It’s hard to go thru Dads cancer diagnosis from stage 3 to no cancer to stage 4. I still watch beauty YouTubers, but I don’t buy all the things. I’ve been on low buys and no buys and that helped me realize I have more than enough stuff. I now enjoy reading books by my favorite authors or playing with the dogs, and spending as much time as possible with my parents. I’m lucky to have them. Not to mention what going on in the world…

I’m on insta watching dogs and cat videos to stay sane.

Will read whatever and whenever you post.

    • Isabella Muse

I did! I witness someone putting a tester on at a makeup counter and immediately had to be put into protection less I spill on it! LOL! I’m so sorry about your parents! You never think you’ll be in a position where you are caring for them instead of them for you! I’m glad you have this time with them Robin! Cherish it. And you don’t have to buy all the things! It’s an important lesson on life to learn that less is more! I hope you’ll come back here and still enjoy some posts!

  • Anna P.

I’m glad you’re well!! Honestly I really enjoy your commentary so I hope you choose to continue blogging, even if it’s not about makeup.

BTW what is a y-girl? Can’t find anyone else using that term online.

    • Isabella Muse

Aw thanks so much Anna! 🙂 I very much want to hop back into it and maybe do some lifestyle posts too! Y-Girls are weirdly passionate and unapologetically hardcore fangirls (or really can be anything you love! like makeup for example, or in my case I was referring to being yaoi and BL fandoms that I left behind and re-embraced recently).

  • Juliana

Taking a break is ok. We’ve all done it. I’ve recently been sucked back in with interesting drug store releases. Pricing makes me far more careful and thoughtful about product purchases and detailed product reviews are more important now than ever. It’s great to see you back and hopefully see some more muse approved products.

    • Isabella Muse

Drugstore releases are not only crazily priced but also, not as awesome as they used to be 🙁 I’m sort of back and hope to get back into it further!

  • Susan Balsamo

I have been checking from time to time to see if anything new was posted and was really happy to see this. Reading your blog wasn’t always about the make-up for me. The posts brought some joy to my day, and am sure others feel the same way. Nice to “see you” again, and wish you all the best wherever your journey takes you

    • Isabella Muse

Aw thanks Susan! I will do my best to bring you some new posts and happiness with it deal?!

  • Anne

I missed you! I’ve been following for years and still checked your website a few times a week to reminisce. I trust your reviews and would treasure anything you’d like to share.

  • Agona

You’re still my favorite blogger. Maybe, if makeup isn’t your only love anymore, expand the blog? Recipes? Photos of sunsets? I value your thoughts regardless!

    • Isabella Muse

AW thanks! I thought of that to be honest! Some cooking stuff! My fangirl bs! LOL something more 😀 lifestyle type thing!

  • Rici

I’m so glad you posted something! I have been lurking here for years….. missed you!

  • Christine N

I am happy you are back. I’ve followed you for many many years and your blog have always been bookmarked into my browser. From time to time I would check your blog to see if there are any updates and have been bummed that there wasn’t. Today I checked and to my surprise you’re back!

Sometimes a break is what we need before we revisit what we once loved!

    • Isabella Muse

Hi Christine thanks for sticking with me 🙂 Glad to be back sort of! I’m working my way through being back for good!

  • Kate

maybe it’s a good thing that you have a break from makeup and stuff. you have a very unique style of writing btw. have you considered writing a book? I think we all would read about it here!

  • kjh

Since looking wasn’t getting any results for so long, I started checking ~every 2 weeks. I almost wrote Where TF are you, Fotze? Under the m/u recovering? post. BTW, Fotze is German for the C word. I’ve been watching MHz, mainly German crime shows, so that’s where the Fotze came from. This AM the episode involved organ harvesting from the homeless. A doc who had been the darling of US plastic surgery had been struck off stateside, for doing a facial graft with vaginal tissue. The most horrifying and disgusting thing ever. Instead of the DP,she moved to Vienna and catered to the high end plastic tourism industry. Unacceptable, but it would not surprise me if it were real.
Anyway, glad you’re back, even in a miniature way. You’ve been sorely missed. You’re always a lift to my mood, even when the post is about K-pop, K-drama, or other things I’m far too old to relate to. I learn m/u and Asian pop culture at the same time. TY. Now on with the show.

    • Isabella Muse

Hey how are you? It’s been a day! ;-D wait what? I’m so confused right now! LOL! what show is this again!? you are never too old kpop! and kdramas ma’am!

  • MDR

You were missed! I only put on makeup once a month or so now, but I’m trying to get back into it. The world is so different now that putting on makeup feels like stepping back into time for a few minutes. I hope you are enjoying you new passions <3

    • Isabella Muse

I do the same lately! I’m slowly easing my way back into it!

  • MelodyJ

Welcome back! I like your idea of doing lifestyle posts. You mentioned cooking. I would like to read about that. You could ask people what their other interests and hobbies are and if they are the same/similar as yours you could do posts about that.

As far as beauty goes right now people need nourishment not only on the inside but the outside too. Your focus could which to skin, body, hair and nail care. Even add in some loungewear and style post the state of the world is rough we need comfort right now.

    • Isabella Muse

I really want to do those a lot Melody! I just feel like life interests are a lot more interesting lately compared to makeup! 😀 We can def add a little more into our current line up over here!

  • Sofia

Happy to read really any blogging about the things you like here! I feel like makeup did get stale and the goings on were more about sales and gimmicks than about interesting products. I was thinking just yesterday about how I used to read your blog and drool over the cutest kbeauty releases…and now those brands have gone away or embraced the bland look. It’s been easy to sit out a few seasons

      • MelodyJ

As K-Beauty expanded globally, they adjusted to the markets they entered. When they became more of a threat in the beauty world, they took on a more mature look to go with their new position. It’s like how you don’t see adults showing off their Barbie’s dolls and Hot Wheels cars at work. They are at a different life stage now and so is K-Beauty.

        • Isabella Muse

10000% agreed! I never had hope K-Beauty would maintain their cute image once they entered the Western market. It comes as no surprise things got very basic. On that note, I don’t mind showing off my Barbies LOL!
