There Weren’t A Lot of Major Makeup Trends In 2020 But Here’s One That Should Go Away

I receive a small commission if you shop through my link.

2020 will go down in history as the year we all embraced self care and letting our skin breath again! We all scooped as much skincare as we could get our hands on and hunkered down in front of our desks wearing the most moisturizing of sheet masks.

I have and always will be a skincare junkie so taking care of my skin and indulging it in a variety of products isn’t really a new normal for me. If I’m not wearing makeup I look quite young. Combined with my larger brown eyes I end up looking like a little chibi. I’d much rather wear makeup than go completely bare faced. 2020 though saw many days where I wasn’t in my normal full face of makeup and most people I’ve talked to or know pretty much said, “Screw it! I’m home all day why bother with makeup?”

That makes sense! If you’re home and no one is seeing you why bother with makeup? I took sanctuary in my own collection. Doing my face everyday made me feel normal when I was anxious or paranoid about the pandemic. I felt my best when I was wearing red lipstick while waxing my floors. Sorry but makeup just felt normal to me in the complete and utter chaos we experienced back in April and now more than ever I really take comfort in it.

That doesn’t mean I’m not enjoying all the self care launches lately. I love everyone is really into taking good care of their skin lately. I love that people finally realized that good skin is the first step in makeup looking it’s best! I also love that everyone finally woke up and realized they don’t need a fully contoured face.

So, the fact of the matter is 2020 did not really give us a bunch of makeup trends but it did teach us to take better care of our skin.

However, there is one makeup trend that needs to be buried deep within the surface of the earth never to see the light of day again.

Lighted Magnification Mirror Less than $10

I receive a small commission if you shop through my link.

I am forever always a Simple Human Mirror h0r! I have three of them and I love them hard. There is something terribly satisfying about seeing every single nook in cranny on your face when staring into a lit mirror. There were lots of Simple Human deals this Holiday season and I hope you finally indulged in one during those sales.

If not, no worries, this Onyx Professional LED Makeup Mirror 3x Magnification with In-Base Storage might be worth a pick up if you’re on a budget. This is on sale at walmart.com currently for $9.99. They have a Rose Gold version in select stores (check your local store for pick up) and the black version which is available online for purchase.

It’s not Simple Human but anyone needing a basic start up makeup mirror might want to check this deal out.

Enjoy!

The Face Primer I’m Dying to Try!

I receive a small commission if you shop through my link.

I’m waiting for the new NYX Marsh Mellow Primer to arrive from a recent Ulta I did but I really want to try is Beauty Bakerie The Butter Hydra Silk Primer.

I’m not one for stick primers but this just seems interesting. This is part of a reverse skin prep where you moisturize first, bake, and finally apply setting spray and the primer as the last step. I don’t technically bake so I might just break the rules here and apply it before my makeup. Hopefully it’ll still work that way! I’m not sure about the reverse technique which sounds sort of messy.

I think the thing that was drawing me on this was the moisturizing formula. It seems like a stickier formula which will allow foundation to wear longer and stronger. I’m so of obsessed with sticky primers lately. They just do a great job of gripping foundation and keeping it in place.

I’m not at all sure about this reverse skin prep though! I don’t really use powder that often on my face and I definitely do not bake.

What do you think?

Will Beauty Bakerie The Butter Hydra Silk Primer work for us that are more traditional makeup applicator users?

Sonia Kashuk Introduces Facial Dry Brush

I receive a small commission if you shop through my link.

I am very much in love with my Aveda Tulasāra Radiant Facial Dry Brush but cheaper options are always welcome! Sonia Kashuk Facial Dry Brush is a $8 option that launched today at target.com for Spring 2021.

Dry brushing allows you to gently exfoliate your skin. I dry brush once a week and it really leaves my skin smooth and radiant. Along with the dry brush there’s a few other new complexion and skincare brushes available. It’s sort of a refreshing change to see skincare brushes versus makeup ones being launched!

There’s a new Eye Cleansing Brush for $6. I always find Eye Cleansing Brushes more of a chore than helpful! They are in fact used to cleanse around the eye area and remove mascara and left over eye makeup but I find them awkward to use!

Up next we have a new Serum Brush ($7) that you can use to gently apply your favorite serums and of course, a Mask Brush ($6) which have become increasingly popular during the pandemic as people are really out there masking on the daily during their self care routines!

And finally there’s new Facial Rollerball ($9) available as well which can be used under your eyes or on your face to gently apply your favorite eye creams, serums, or moisturizers!

All of the new Sonia Kashuk Skincare Brushes are available now at Target.
