MAC A Tartan Tale Color Collection Review and Swatches

At first glance I wasn’t sure I needed the MAC A Tartan Tale but soon after I seen the eyeshadows and promptly fell in love.

The shadows are so gorg and fun you’ll probably want ’em after seeing this post.

Let’s check out a few pieces from the MAC A Tartan Tale Color Collection.

The MAC Tartan Tale Eye Shadow are so fierce. I absolutely adore the plaid design. The design isn’t an over spray and should last through a few uses with the powder but may wear away as you get deeper in but regardless it does seem like it may stick around a fair bit however the lines that run through the plaid do disappear after a few strokes however the raised pattern remains. The shadows are not the typical MAC standard size, these guys are Mineralized Eye Shadow size.

I got two to pay around with today and can honestly say I’ll probably buy a few more just because I 1. love the packaging and 2. feel like some of the shades are unique enough to warrant a purchase.

The two I got were Golden Crown which is a light frosty gold with bronze striping and Enviably Fun which is a grass green that has dark green striping. They feel like a frost in some cases but also a newer, buttery formula that feels soft and silky.

Likey!

I wasn’t too keen on the blushes since I was kinda disappointed that MAC didn’t embrace the plaid design for them but I will say that My Highland Honey proves gorgeous. It’s a bright coral that gives a fresh, healthy blast of color to cheeks. I applied it as soon as I tore open the box and I’m wearing it now. Such a gorgeous shade.

And finally I got one of the three pigments releasing which is The Family Crest, a blackened bronze with golden pearl shimmer.

A Tartan Tale’s Color Collection proves very promising if this brief look is anything to go by. I’m very eager to see the rest of it when it hits stores later this month.

What do you think you’ll haul from it?

Beautiful Muse!!! That pale cream color e/s is lovely. Even though its nothing new, I know I will use it a lot if I buy!
    The blush is pretty too!
During Holidays, every brand comes wth some gorgeous kits and products. I have to choose wisely (I am on budget…:(

    • the Muse

aw totally understandable resham! I think everyone is on a budget lately seems a part of life lately 😛

  • Justine

I will be getting that peach blush for sure. The eyeshadow pattern is cool too.

  • coco

I really like those eyeshadows! And the blush! The pattern is so cute.
When is this released to stores?

  • Kay

Ohhhh those shadows are so gorgeous *drools* And you’re right, the shades are original enough that I don’t think I currently own anything like them. The design is super pretty too. I definitely can’t wait for the UK appearance. Hope it’s before the 27th because that’s when I’ll be getting to a MAC stockist!

    • the Muse

hey kay I think you’ll prob see it before, UK seems spot on with releases lately hun ;-D

  • Phyrra

The green is lovely. I’m betting the gold shade would look great with your eyes 🙂

  • Colleen

Eeeeek! So excited to see swatches! I am definitely getting Golden Crown! Thanks, Muse!

Sadly the only thing that slightly peaks my interest is the nail set, but that’s even iffy since I’m no nail guru with an awesome nack for nails. Since I have under sensitive skin I never get excited for their face products. The lippy sets and shadows are over the top awesome or something I can see myself wearing. I may pick up a brush set since the bags are cute. Aahh MAC this is the second holiday launch in a row with nothing jumping out at me like “TAKE ME HOME!!”

  • Molly

Sorry for the last post. It was supposed to say I have uber sensitive skin, and the lippy sets and shadows aren’t over the top… silly me

  • Sarah

I know they’re two completely different colors but already owning Hipness from To The beach do you think I should hold out for My Highland Honey instead of getting Bite of an Apple from Venemous Villains?

    • the Muse

hi sarah really up to you hun. if you have alot of peaches get BoaA instead ;D

  • Christina

I truely like the eyeshadows. I love when my eyes are glimmering.
I will finally have to look around where I can buy MAC Stuff near my home…..thanks a lot^^

  • Nia

    Love you Muse 🙂

Thanks for the review, the grey plaid eyeshadow will be mine 😀
The blushes are a skip as I have way too many and not enough visible cheeks to ever use them up.
The pigments will be mine as well.

Which other colours will you haul?

  • Truus

I would love to see My Highland Honey on your cheeks 🙂
Corals can be so different when applied on the face, compaired to the colour applied on your arm.
Sorry if I’m a bit curious, but I can’t help it, the colour is so gorgeous!

This is my going to be my second MAC product I’m going to buy I think (I onely have face and body foundation now). Third will be the Glamora Castle eyeshadow I think 😀
    Beautifull!

Apart from the ultimate coolness of these products, Scotland is my refuge when I’m tired of the Netherlands (where I live). Just love everything about Scotland. Ok, not everything, the midges and the rain are actually horrible 😛

The only thing not to love about this collection are the Dutch prices… why are they so much higher then the US prices? that sucks big time 🙁

    • the Muse

hi truus I’ll try to get an FOTD up shortly hun ;-D ugh I can imagine the dutch prices, most of Europe suffers the same hun! don’t feel too bad 😛

  • LINDARRAGNAR

the green and gold go so wonderfully togethere!! I really am sad they don’t have the plaid on the blushes 🙁 to be honest I really want everything from this collection 🙂 the boxes/tins and bags look so amazing!! (if only i could find the $$ for it 😀 )

  • Eli

The green eyeshadow looks A-mazing 🙂 I don’t quite see myself wearing such an orange shade of blusher, though…

  • triner

I wasn’t very excited for this collection until I saw the single shadows. The packaging and colors are really cute! Thanks for the swatches!

    • the Muse

my pleasure triner ;-D same here!!!!!! I was kinda meh but seen the color collection and was like OH YES!

  • Nikki

  • sarah Mathianas

    • the Muse

NEVER in my opinion Truus can anyone have too many corals ;-D Thank you so much for the kind compliment! I think you’ll love it when you get it and Cabo Coral is a decent dupe until you do!
