Tarte Amazon Escape Amazonian Clay Eye & Cheek Palette Review & Swatches

This was provided to me by a brand for review but all opinions expressed are my own

The new Tarte Amazon Escape Amazonian Clay Eye & Cheek Palette raced across my desk today. I decided to have a little play with it because girls (and guys) I need an escape. My week is brutal. I’m having a hard time catching up and a trip to the Amazon with Joe at my side is all I need.

This stylish mirrored clutch features eye and cheek essentials infused with Amazonian Clay, sorry Joe’s sweat isn’t technically in the formula…!

This pretty clutch is easy enough to tote around if you please. Made of a faux leather with a snake print design it features Tarte’s signature royal purple color. It has everything you need for looks on the go but I’d LOVE to have some brush applicators as well as that would truly make it travel worthy.

Inside you’ll find a how to get the look card featuring two looks plus two Amazonian Clay 12 Hour Blush shades exclusive to this palette and six Amazonian Clay Eyeshadows in matte and shimmer finishes.

Amazonian clay supposedly works to reduce surface oil and improve overall texture for easy application and better wear. I can’t specifically say if this works or not as my eyelids aren’t oily but feel free to shout out if you feel it works for you!

Fans of Tarte Amazonian Clay 12 Hour Blush will be delighted with these two exclusive colors. I think these blushes have serious pokemon disease attached to them as everyone I know wants to collect all the shades. The fact they include these colors definitely ups the game and will probably tempt you into a purchase. The colors included are Free (bright warm corally orange) and Exposed (a dusky desert rose).

Exposed and Free

You also get six shades of shade in the mix. These are Tarte’s traditional formula which have been included in many a palette release. They are soft, velvety, have excellent pigmentation, blend, and apply flawlessly. Tarte makes some of the nicest matte’s I’ve tried which is saying something as I hate the finish. They have a silky, buttery smooth feel that translates well onto lids for flawless unpatchy application! I do think these shades are similiar to many colors I already own from Tarte which could or couldn’t be a deal breaker for some. If you tend to purchase Tarte palettes often particularly the Holiday Collections, the shades seem quite dupe-able to me.

Shades you get:

  • Canopy (dark chocolate)
  • Tribal (rich plum)
  • Rare (subtle peach)
  • Rope (matte beige)
  • Tame (shimmering bone)
  • Cameo (shimmering bronze)

Tribal, Camo, Rare

Canopy, Rope, Tame

I tried the first look which suggested Canopy all over the lid and Tribal in the crease. Mmm…I either lack skill (probably the case) or the shades are a little too dark to be paired up together because as you can see in my look I had a hard time contrasting the shades. They blended together well but it’s difficult telling the shades apart. Tarte didn’t suggest it but I added a little Camo on top of Canopy for a little more pop.

Overall, the Tarte Amazon Escape Amazonian Clay Eye & Cheek Palette ($44) is a nice selection of products that proves stylishly travel friendly and a great introduction to the brand if you don’t already own a ton of Tarte or never tried it before. I think it proves tempting for those wanting more shades of Tarte’s popular blush particularly if you want to collectio ALL the shades. However, some of the shadows you might want to cross check against your current stash shades as these seem like colors I already own from past palette releases.

Please excuse my super red, cracking nose in the photos below….I have a cold! Boo! I’m surprised my nose has fallen off I’ve been blowing it so hard!

Great fun for the Tarte newbies.

But older Tarte fans might find it a little lacking.

Very nice palette! The packaging looks like those wallets that are very popular these days. If it’s not too big, it makes an excellent travel item. And the pigmentation, argh! why wan’t all colours be like these?!?! Thanks for sharing Muse xx

    • the Muse

my pleasure lau 😀 it does indeed look like those clutch wallets, be cool if they included brushes and a spot for credit cards hehe!

  • anna

Isn’t exposed already apart of the permanent line? But it looks nothing like whats in the palette.

    • the Muse

yup but the shade is quite different….exposed is beigey-nude, this isn’t like that at all. get these recycled the name 😀

      • Winni

I hate it when brands reuse names! Especially when they are the same products and current! Wtf? Do they just lack creativity!!??

  • Kaitlin

    Ouchie! Your poor nose! 🙁

I’m going to have to pass on this one…it just isn’t calling to me! But I think the shades do look nice on you.

    • the Muse

sniffle! it’s all cracked and flaky and gross :-/ le sigh! aw thanks…! I had fun with it but not sure my look came out all that great but meh I still had a blast trying it 😀

      • Majick

ouchy – poor nose – might I reccommend Elizabeth Ardens 8 hour cream or a little shea butter. Hope you feel better soon.

  • Amy Amethyst

Aww your poor little nose! Hope you feel better soon. If you aren’t using them already, I recommend the Puffs with the aloe lotion. They seem to help my nose a lot when I’m having sinus/allergy attacks. I don’t think I’ve ever tried anything from tarte before. One day I will try one of their blushes! Also if you go to the Amazon with Joe, I’m hiding in your suitcase.

    • the Muse

there is no threesomes here Amy, get out, get your own Joe…! LOL ;-D ok…you can come. But bring one of those misting bottles ok? We can take turns misting him in the Amazon heat. lol! ;-D I have them but my nose is still crusty grossness booooooo! thanks! I hope so too as I’m away again shortly and hate being sick when I’m away from home boo!

      • Amy Amethyst

LOL Well I’ll just bring Alexander Skarsgard for me! But then it may be hotness overload and I’ll spontaneously combust. What a way to go though! Being sick away from home does suck.

        • the Muse

can joe and alex make out? I’d consider you tagging along if you agree! LOL! yes 🙁 you just want your own bed, your own pillow, and your own tivo lol!

      • Amy Amethyst

Ok ok you can have Joe. I really just want Alex anyway. I’m sure he can keep me entertained by himself.

        • the Muse

*rolls eyes* forget it. I’m going with Christian Grey. Keep Joe and Alex, they are used goods ;-D

  • Cindy

This is just so lovely! I’d really like to use that palette as a clutch! Camo and Rare are calling my name…

  • Vanilla

My nose turns like that when I have a cold too 🙁 (or allergies for that matter, which is 1/2 of the year). What I find really helps is investing in some cool touch Kleenex. It’s expensive, but it feels so cool and soothing on your nose! I fell in love once I tried it, and it’s hard to switch back to regular Kleenex. The lotion helps a bit with the dryness too… let me know if it helps you.

    • the Muse

ooo those sound heavenly do want! ;-D my nose is ready to fall off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <3!

  • Barb

    have it… love it… gals…. get it

I didn’t follow their suggestions on eye application as I too found it a little much… if you use one light colour all over then a darker in the crease you’re good to go and yes the colours are highly pigmented so a little goes a long way

the blushes are pretty too and again lots of pigment so a light handed sweep of the colour is all you need (and they do last all day)

you mention brushes… i never like brushes that are included in palettes so i didnt really miss that…

i loved the case … some people find it too heavy for travel but i usually dont travel with large palettes anyway so the pretty case was cool for me

get well soon… i too hate the crunchy nose and summer colds are the worst

    • the Muse

hey barb! Agreed, I think maybe the cards were a bit too much. Love love love the blushes and I concur, they really have awesome staying power ;-D

Ugh right? Crunchy nose is the worst…lol!

  • Lara

Not really interested in the palette, purple isn’t my favorite color but your line cracked me up. “I think these blushes have serious pokemon disease attached to them as everyone I know wants to collect all the shades. “.

  • Marilyn @ Lipgloss and Spandex

    Feel better soon!

I really like this palette. I haven’t tried any of the other Tarte palettes (I’ve swatched them in store, but wasn’t impressed enough to buy one). I’m not usually all worked up about blush, but I really love Tarte’s Amazonian blushes, and this is a nice kit that can do day or night looks–it’s a good travel palette because I’d actually USE any/all of the colors.

  • Pinkty

I wish they could sell in France, I’ve discovered the brand in NY and regret that I bought only one product !

  • Deb

I clicked on the Joe pic link and somehow never made it back to the palette! Thanks, Muse 🙂

  • Toni

I think this palette looks beautiful.

I have only just found out about Tarte’s products. I was interested in buying a lot of their stuff when I found out it was all nasty free (no parabens, PEGS, sulphates etc) but sadly they don’t ship to the Uk. Anyone fancy sending me some? 🙂

Anyway, I would buy this if I could!

Thanks again for another great post x

    • the Muse

aw my pleasure toni! So sorry they don’t ship to the UK 🙁 maybe one day!

  • everythingspeachy514

Hmm…That looks interesting, I will definitely have to swatch it next time I’m in Sephora! Also, the blush in Exposed is part of their permanent blush collection, if I’m not very much mistaken. Great review! 🙂

  • Majick

THink this is great for someone who doesn’t own any Tarte. I love the design, and the pigmentation looks great but it does look like a lot of other Tarte stuff I already have. I think I’m safe.

  • yelena

gosh i have been eyeing this for the longest – oh those blushes! and the eyeshadows i’ve tried from tarte never impressed me tho so i’m on the fence until i can play with this in store 🙂
