Maybelline Lasting Drama Waterproof Gel Pencil Review & Swatches
Maybelline Lasting Drama Waterproof Gel Pencil by Eye Studio ($7.99) is a new gel eyeliner that promises a wear of up to 16 hours that’s available in ten shade selections that’s launching with the Maybelline Spring 2016 Collection at drugstores.
As you know L’Oreal Infallible Silkissime Eyeliner released a slew of gorgeous shades for Fall 2014. I mean do we need anything other than Silkissime in our life at this point? If you’re clipping coupons and take advantage of BOGO offers at the drugstore you’ve likely, at this point, collected all the shades for like $5 or $6 bucks each. And you also likely know that they are just as fabulous as Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-Eye Pencils.
So do we need another budget eyeliner in our lives? Hells yes especially one as beautifully textured as the new Maybelline Lasting Drama Waterproof Gel Pencil.
Maybelline Lasting Drama Waterproof Gel Pencil are 0.038 oz in size and $7.99 each (Or Buy 1, Get 1 50% at Ulta) so they are competitively priced and sized compared to L’Oreal’s $8.99 Silkissime Pencil.
Much like Silkissime they promise up the 16 hours of wear and this is in fact the only area they fail in or at least I suspect they will fail in this area but more on that in a bit….
I purchased five shades and I don’t regret a single one of them. All five shades have a glossy finish with a slick, creamy consistency that glides across the lash line super, duper easily. You barely have to touch the pencil to your skin as it just glides on like oil. It’s a very smooth, even, soft application that’s a joy to use. I find color eyeliners a pain to use on my waterline as most don’t have an easy glide! Even Urban Decay’s formula doesn’t work great on my waterline and this is one area that Lasting Drama Waterproof Gel Pencil excels. Not only do they provide fantastic, rich, vibrant color on my lash line but they also do a fab job getting that same intense color on my waterline with super ease of application. They kinda have a soft, slick texture that felt a bit silicone-like when I swatched on my arm.
I have drier eyes I experienced no issues with smearing, fading, cracking, or flaking. All the shades wore fabulously long and didn’t come off until I removed them at the end of the night. On my waterline the wear is shorter at around three hours which is one reason I think these won’t play nice with oily lids.
I think the texture of the pencil is a little too slick and a little too glossy for oily lids so I’m doubting you’ll get 16 hours of wear from them. Many reader’s with oily skin comment about how Urban Decay’s formula is a bit too creamy for them and it slides right off and I suspect you’ll see that from Maybelline Lasting Drama Waterproof Gel Pencil as well. I don’t personally have this issue and they wore fine on mine but I’m just making a bit assumption the slicker, creamier texture might not be the ideal pick for oily eye lids.
All in all if you like a glossy, creamier eyeliner that takes absolutely no effort to apply you’ll adore Maybelline Lasting Drama Waterproof Gel Pencil. I’m skeptical about the longer wear on oily skin but on my own dry skin they wore fabulously well and had excellent pigmentation and a beautiful formula.
Loving ’em!
Sure we have a great drugstore eyeliner already out there in L’Oreal’s formula but I do urge you to check out Maybelline Lasting Drama Waterproof Gel Pencil as dare I say the formula is even more creamier.
