Clinique Sweet Pots Sugar Scrub & Lip Balm

Clinique Sweet Pots Sugar Scrub & Lip Balm ($19.50) is a new dual-sided lip scrub and tinted moisturizing lip balm that launched for Spring 2016. I love the idea of having one pot that houses but my lip scrub and lip balm in one place. When you have a massive stash of makeup you begin to appreciate packaging like this in a major way. You also love all over it if you’re travel a lot, which I do, as this takes up very little room in your makeup bag and you don’t need to lug around two separate pots of product.

I love how you can always count on Clinique to start off the Spring makeup season with something cute, sweet, and completely practical. The brand has consecutively released very fun products every single Spring for several years now. That new and cutest release are these Sweet Pots Sugar Scrub & Lip Balms.

Let’s take a peek!

Clinique Sweet Pots Sugar Scrub & Lip Balm come housed in a pot that holds 0.47 oz of scrub and lip balm they are about 0.24 oz each. There’ a silver ring that surrounds each pot which separates and holds the pots together. Once unscrewed you’ll have two separate pots of product. The bottom pot holds the lip scrub and the top pot holds the lip balm. At first glance, since both are identical in color, it was hard to tell each of the products apart but once you use them you’ll see that the scrub is the grainier of the two.

For those sensitive these have absolutely no fragrance or flavor. I admit, I wish they did as they look positively yummy. Both the balm and the scrub have a very dense surface so you have to press very hard and very deep to get the product flowing for lack of a better description.

The lip scrub portion is actually a very, very light scrub. This consistency can’t be liken to thicker scrubs like Sara Happ The Lip Scrub or even Lush Lip Scrub. It’s thinner with more refined grains of sugar. If you have super dry, flaky lips you might need something that’s a bit harsher. I liked the consistency because I felt like I had a good deal more control over it. I always feel like I’m losing chunks of scrub when I’m using something thicker. This formula gives me a lot more control when I’m scrubbing happily away. As I said it has no flavor and even the sugar grains aren’t sweet so this will be a relief for sensitive users.

The balm portion of the duo is divine. I got two shades and I’m happy I did as although sheer both gave my lips not only a wonderfully plump, plush look but a hint of lovely color too! As I mentioned above this has a dense layer but you need to press your finger in deep to get it warmed up. The texture is a balmy yet never sticky or tacky consistency that applies with a soft, easy glide on lips. It leaves a healthy shine and tint behind with a nice moisturizing finish that soothes and softens lips after the lip scrub!

There might be two potential issues with this product though. One of which is the fact it won’t travel well should you wish the touch up with it due to the pot packaging. No one wants to be smearing balm on in a taxi on the way to dinner with friends from a pot or sitting at our office desk for a quickie touch up. It’s just not exactly the most hygienic packaging in the world. Secondly, the balm is a little too thick if you’re wanting to use it as a night treatment of sorts. I typically use lip scrub at night so following up with the balm and heading to sleep really isn’t an option as this is a thicker, shinier lip balm.

Regardless of the quirks I mentioned I still loved Clinique Sweet Pots Sugar Scrub & Lip Balm! The balm formula is positively love and I like the lighter lip scrub which I can use with ease. This duo gets me soft, smooth, hydrated, and kissable lips.

Thanks Muse for your review. Do you think a lip brush would help using the balm and the scrub? Thanks.

My pleasure. I think the balm is a little too thick to use with a lip brush but that’s just my opinion! You can try!

Speaking as someone with sensitive skin and lips, I’m glad Clinique is fragrance free. I can actually use their products as opposed to being disappointed when a product has fragrance and I can’t use or I try it anyway and wind up with a rash(a rash on the lips is the worst). It looks like a cute product, but I’d only scoop it out with just washed hands or q tips for sanitary reasons.

I do really love the look of these and would love to pick one up. I’m eyeing up shade Velvet Red. BUT as you said, hygiene wise, these aren’t convenient at all! 🙁
