Does Your Makeup Addiction Demand Constant Newness?

new makeup

Does your makeup addiction demand constant newness? Do you need something brand new and sparkly to engage and stimulate your interest in makeup? I think part of the appeal of the makeup world and loving makeup so much stems from the fact there’s always something new and interesting to try out be that a lipstick or an exciting new moisturizer.

It’s funny because I have many, many staples I love and use daily. A primer I really love, a concealer I adore, an eyeshadow I constantly use, etc…etc…yet, I’m always out there searching for the next best thing. Why? If my concealer is already holy grail status why am I searching for something else? Lord knows, if this was an actual relationship we were talking about Ashley Madison would make millions on me. I’m a serial makeup cheater and I’m not ashamed to admit I cheat on my favorites.

It’s been a little slow in the makeup world lately and the lipstick index seems to rather down in the dumps. Or maybe it hasn’t, maybe I’m just used to brands releasing things at a rapid-fire pace and I get a little nervous and antsy when no new makeup pops up for me to play with. What will I do!? I begin to develop the sweats, start biting my nails, and develop a case of shifty eyes.

In all seriousness, I think we’ve been spoiled a little by the world of constant new makeup and now we rely on brands to stimulate us with the next best thing! It’s actually sometimes a relief when things slow down for a minute so we can take a break and maybe shop our own collections. But I admit after a brief time I start itching to try something new!

Do you feel like your addiction to makeup demands a constant stream of new products?

Or are you happy with what you have?

Personally, even after discovering some of my holy grail products I just love the thrill of the chase. That’s never going to change!

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. I’m definitely guilty. I have many colors and products I love, but I always want a new lipstick, a new blush, a new eyeliner or shadow, etc.

Hey Sista Muse! This is timely as I am in dire need of a no-buy…but I know that won’t happen so I’m on a slow-buy. You know my OCD for eyeshadow palettes, and I have entirely too many that I haven’t even used (yet)! I can’t say I have any Holy Grail items but that’s not why I keep buying. I have issues. 😉

I’m trying to slow my buying impulse down by holding off until LORAC releases its Pro Palette 3 in June. I love the Pro 1 and Pro 2 palettes, so Pro 3 is definitely worth acquiring.

hey sis! long time no speak! lol welcome to the club, I have issues too! 😀 I’m eager for the new Pro Palette but it looks a lot like the original sadly 🙁 so I hope it doesn’t disappoint!

Yes, that’s me. Always in search of something new even though I have some great stuff already!

I thought something was odd with me! I found myself exploring brands that never interested me before the other day JUST for some “newness”. And I kept holding off clicking “buy” because I was like, “Why am I even buying this? This is a brand that I’m not even that interested in!” …probably a good thing. My vet bills this month have been ridiculous and my budget is super tight for this month and next. -_-

Guilty as charged here too. IDK why either… I too have many favorites yet it still can seem/feel like that’s never enough, its not quite perfect HG material, or like a new car after the first scratch or spilled coffee, the newness fades, the honeymoon is over and the search for something else (read: ‘new’) to fill the void begins. I’d like to shut that little voice up, be happy and grateful with what you have, not obsess about what you don’t or envious of what someone else has, period. They’re probably feeling that way about you too! Yet, here I am, hovering over the BE Flash Sale, lol! Do I need it, probably not. Do I want it? YesyesYes! Bah Humbug. I’m sure there are deeper psychological reason(s) behind it in my case, but sometimes a new palette is cheaper than therapy… emphasis on the ‘sometimes’ -MU isn’t cheap nowadays and definitely NOT to make light of or minimize benefits of (non-retail-) therapy whatsoever- my husband is a licensed mental health counselor but he isn’t supposed to diagnose or treat friends and family. Just as well, I’d be a lifetime project…. and I blame the Internet! 😉

we could need therapy. I blame the internet too, can we sue!!?

Oh i am never satisfied. I find the perfect this or that but in the back of my head I am convinced there is the even more perfect this or that. I have been thinking recently I need to shop my own stuff because I know I will rediscover something I love. I actually today re used my Hourglass Diffused Heat blush. I love it. Why do I keep buying blush? I think I am even worse with skincare. I am convinced the holiest of holy grails for my skin is still out there. Must get through every product on the market until I find it!

Haha I’m the same, if there’s a new colour or texture that I’m interested in, I’m all over it! I try not to buy close dupes for things I already have, but I should shop my stash more often!

I used to constantly purchase new products, especially from indie brands. Nowadays, I try to hold off unless I really love the item and have to have it. I have far too much. The last product I purchased was Mac x Charlotte Olympia Retro Rouge lipstick. I haven’t purchased any makeup or perfume items since.

I’ve satisfied my craving for new products by signing up for multiple subscription boxes. I find i’ve cut down on my makeup impulse buys because I might just get what I’m looking for in the mail that month.

I’m a free sample junkie. I go to beauty trend shows, just for the goodie bags of miniture samples. I’ll try anything once. I have so many travel size samples its ridiculous! Every night I use a different product on my face. I haven’t had problems, some say lack of a routine can cause skin irrability, but I have yet to be burned by this. Sometimes I’ll try a new skincare product at night and in the morning my face is red, so I end up giving them to friends, and family members because I’m always on the lookout for the latest and greatest, and want to try everything. I would love to review/rate beauty products for a living. Some products aren’t worth the price, thats why you have to try before you buy!
