Walgreens Is Improving Their Beauty & Makeup Game In a Big Way!

beauty news

So, earlier this year, much to everyone’s outrage, drugstore.com and beauty.com closed their doors. Walgreens brought drugstore.com about 4 years or so ago and people are currently scratching there heads why they’d buy something for a huge chunk of cash only to close it within a few short years. Call it grand marketing, call it insanity, but I think Walgreens goal was somehow to gain the drugstore.com’s loyal customer base.

Customers flocked to drugstore.com because not only their mainstream offerings were fairly priced but also because more obscure brands like Thayers was offered there.

Now a days, it seems like Walgreens hopes to garner your interest, money, and also your cult following by offering the same brands that drugstore.com once did! How are they doing this? Well, your favorite brands like Soap & Glory have massive displays in store. If you step into a Walgreens store you might notice more beauty than every before and you might also notice displays are well lit and very modern. Not to mention Walgreens new Beauty Enthusiast Rewards program gets you a good deal of perks. Funny, as I was recently complaining about the lack of rewards versus the amount of money I send at Walgreens and suddenly they launch a really awesome beauty rewards program. I recently spend around $100 and I got back $20! I’ve been a Walgreens regular rewards member for a while and at best I earned about $5 in rewards the entire year or more I was apart of the program. They launch the beauty one and already I earned $20 bucks! Finally!

Did I mention prestigious beauty?

Walgreens has that.

Recently, I spotted a display of Philosophy mini fragrances at Walgreens. I’m wondering if 3-in-1 Shower Gels are soon to follow? Oh and by the way, how about Armani Si? Yup! I spotted a Armani Gift Set with Armani Si and other Armani fragrances in a very pretty white and gold box for $59. Hmmm…!

I’m curious what else Walgreens has in store for us in the coming year.

I was the first person to say that drugstore.com couldn’t be replaced but Walgreens seems to be gaining my attention quickly.

What sorts of awesomeness have you discovered recently at Walgreens?

Do share!

They carry soap & glory, but sadly not my favorite products from the range. Apparently I’m alone in loving the fruitigo scented stuff.

      • moda31

Sephora used to carry Foam Call, Butter Yourself, and Pulp Friction which were all fruitigo scented, and they were briefly listed on beauty.com. Pulp Friction is only available here in the orangegasm scent, which I unfortunately didn’t care for. I suppose its back to importing it from London. Thank goodness for family members with a little extra room in their suitcase.

I can’t even remember that wow! I wish we’d get the EDTs they have in the UK!

      • Isabella Muse

omg yeah that’s right! I have the foursome from last year and it did have fruitigo!

I usually go to CVS if I’m planning to buy DS makeup because of their rewards program and the wider selection (much bigger makeup & beauty section! Including NYX) but if Walgreens is going to start having some exclusive brands of their own and offering rewards and expanding/improving their beauty section then I’d be happy to shop there since they are closer and more convenient to my house.

when I signed up for the beauty enthusiast they gave me a HUGE bag of samples. It’s was like a regular haul! I love Walgreens…they have salon brand hair care as well

    • Isabella Muse

I missed out on that! Booo! They didn’t give me anything! Since you’re moving in you better share 😀 I think this weekend they are giving like 20,000 points on beauty purchases or something insane like that!

I’ve seen a few improvements in my local stores but nothing like the Look boutique Walgreens that I found in downtown DC. There need to be more of those kinds of Walgreens.

    • Isabella Muse

One close to me is very, very chic and modern! They did a lot of improvements and added some really great lighting! Never been to the Look one in DC!

        • Isabella Muse

PA is probably colder than NY at the moment! Honestly, I could probably happily live without walgreens, I’m a harmons girl!

          • Wendy

            We don’t have Harmons 🙁

And we only just got our first Ulta and a mini sephora in JCPenney….but they both suck — always out of stock on everything…I just order everything line. The UPS guy and I are on a first name basis LOL

          • Isabella Muse

honestly, we have everything but I order it all online too! lol! My ups guy asked me out once hahaha! You know it’s bad when your UPS is getting intimate with you! Tony, I’ll never forge him! Cool guy! My new guy isn’t really all that great! Sadness!

          • wendy

oh don’t you know it’s a requirement to be HOT to work for UPS? haha….damn. I want my UPS guy to ask me out. Oh but wait, there’s that pesky old problem, you know, the husband! LOL I guess I’ll pass too.

          • Isabella Muse

LOL! Actually, I beg to disagree, I think that’s the requirement for FEDEX! haha! All those FEDEX boys are crazy cute! And man, they wear their shirts so tight and fitted lol! Darn, sorry Wendy! All the FED/UPS for me haha not really, boyfriend would love that!

      • Kimmwc03

They have a few of these “Look” boutiques around. The one I went to was in Chinatown DC. The whole second floor was beauty products and a hair salon. They have brands I never see in any other stores like Vincent Longo and Nuxe.

          • mon

There’s one in downtown Boston like this as well! It’s kind of insane because they also sell groceries, wine/alcohol and have a cafe with outside seating, froyo station, and sushi bar. When I first walked in I was like, “Am I really in Walgreens?!” The beauty displays for the prestige brands were great as well and would not have been out of place at Sephora. If you google image search “walgreens flagship downtown boston” you can see what I mean.

          • Isabella Muse

oh! that’s set up a lot like the Rite Aids we have in manhattan! Same sort of layout! It’s hard to believe it’s a Walgreens! Haha 😀

          • wendy

I’ll go with you, my family is there, we’ll pop in and say hi to them, then we’ll haul all of walgreens LOL

  • Jean

Grr that did piss me off. As someone who doesn’t buy drugstore makeup, I miss having constant discounts on prestigious brands. Walgreen’s may be upping their game but I wish they’d bring back beauty.com at least. Are the prices in Walgreens the same as drugstore.com? Also I hate Walgreen’s because it was my first job and some of the customers and even my customers were assholes. *shakes fist*! Lol. Well enjoy your drugstore hauls.

    • Isabella Muse

naa I always felt drugstore.com was considerably cheaper compared to walgreens, cvs, etc…! 🙁 Aw sorry to hear it! I think consumers in general are jerks sometimes! I see people treat SAs like garbage 🙁 It’s rather sad!

  • Jane

I remember a few years ago when they had Isadora and Art Deco, maybe? There was a third brand, IIRC. It just launched before the online beauty world went nuts, you know?

I’d be tickled if they’d bring back Bourjois as neither Boots nor Soap & Glory are really my thing. Or Madina Milano? Or there’s a South American brand I’m blanking on (I’m even blanking on the country – continent is as close as I can get!).

  • julie fielding

Okay, I am, encouraged if you say so. I am still officially on a bitter ban with them, and have replaced my online shipping with Vitacost. Maybe I will have to forgive and forget?!

    • Isabella Muse

They are stepping up their game lately, don’t rule them out just yet 😀

  • Catherine R.

None of the ones in Montgomery, AL have any of the Soap & Glory Products or really anything new and exciting. They have incredibly helpful staff in the beauty department and I really appreciate that but I sure do wish they had the new products. I will have to check out the beauty rewards program though. I would love to sign up!

  • Bonnie

I’ve always loved Walgreens, but I couldn’t agree more that they have truly stepped up their game recently. To wit: not just Soap & Glory but also a lot of the Boots No. 7 products and more and more “natural” brands like Avalon Organics and the like. They are also carrying the Hemp body lotions which I believe up until now were sold only in salon stores. Muse, I also bought two more cans of the Olay Vanilla Cashmere shaving cream–at my Walgreens, at least, they are on sale buy one, get one 50 percent off (this goes for all Gilette products it appears) if you have their rewards card. I definitely took advantage of that this morning as I was in Walgreens anyway getting a few more holiday cards! 🙂 I also grabbed another Kate Moss for Rimmel lipstick. I swear I am in there at least twice a week if not more. I always end up grabbing something beauty-related even I went in there for something mundane!

    • Isabella Muse

The stores just look brighter lately and the beauty aisles are more packed! 😀 I’m glad you find the Vanilla Cashmere! Did you like it?

      • Bonnie

PS I also noticed that there were some great Boots No 7 gift sets for a great price. Was tempted to buy one for myself so that I could try more of the products without having to buy the full size first!
