File Glitter Facial Masks Under Things We Don’t Need

Someone asked me this morning, “What do you think of these new glitter facial masks that are popping up?” and I pretty much responded that they were stupid. Sorry not sorry! File glitter facial masks under things we don’t need.

K, thanks.

I’m such a jaded beauty blogger sometimes but do we REALLY need glitter in our facial masks and skincare!?

Too Faced has some sort of under wraps facial mask upcoming or that’s what it appears they are releasing. It seems like a shimmery facial product that appears to be a mask but the news is unconfirmed and they are merely teasing it at this point.

Glamglow however, has no problems telling you all about their new Glitter Mask that’s launching for Holiday 2017. Oh, I’m sorry, it’s actually called #GLITTERMASK because lord knows, they have to depend on social media to sell stuff like this. Just like Unicorn Snot which is a real thing.

No idea what the benefits of the mask are but it appears to be a charcoal mask that contains chunks of glittery stars. I just keep thinking to myself, “Holy hell that’s going to be a pain in the ass to remove!”

Unfortunately, we now live in a beauty world which relies heavily on social media to sell their products and Glamglow’s #GLITTERMASK will likely sell out fast because anything that pops up on social media and I do mean anything sells out in a flash.

I just have to question the existence of glitter facial masks.

Good-bye unicorns, so long mermaids, hello hashtag glitter masks.

Let the eye rolling commence on my side of the screen.

I hope to be proved wrong about glitter masks and their benefits.

What do you think?

i hate it lmao. there no benefits to having glitter in a mask. it’s hokey pokey and just a way to sell an average mask formula for a high price. all the diys that are going to come from this are going to be annoying too. i expect a good increase in people going to hospitals for glitter in their eyes lol

    • Isabella Muse

omg I feel the same way and I FEEL guilty about feeling that way too. I’m just rolling my eyes here like, “REALLY!? Glitter in a mask!?” And you know it’ll sell out quick too! People will totally buy it!

  • kjh

You probably knew already, Unicorn Snot gets 4 1/2 stars on Amazon. Glad I’m far to old for ATS.

    • Isabella Muse

lol I know. It has to be paid reviews I mean really! I haven’t been interested in a product like that since I was 11!

      • Agona

I was about to say–I remember when stuff like this was all the rage when I was in middle school. I may have been dusted straight glitter on my arms and chest in high school. But now I don’t even used finely milled body shimmer.

…although I am obsessed with glitter on the mobile lid right now. Full circle??

        • Isabella Muse

I think I’m still obsessed with glitter to some extent (and on the mobile lid can’t blame you, I use Stila’s Magnificent Metals on that area and it rocks) but yes, I went through the body glitter everywhere stage too! Hell just a few years ago with Urban Decay’s Body Flavored Body Shimmers 😀 remember those? But I think I’ve reached a point where I’m like ok, time to put this stuff away lol!

  • Deb

Good heavens. Is this what we’ve been reduced to now? Why would anyone want to deal with a glitter mess in a mask? It’s already bad enough in eyeshadow.

  • Susan

Amen to everything said here. Glitter has long been called “the herpes of craft supplies” (you can’t get rid of it completely) and apparently now it’s the herpes of skin care products too. I am not a 5-year-old who needs to be attracted by shiny things, bu….. OH LOOK! A new palette is coming out from Cargo that’s based on the Seattle area!!!

  • kimkats

no no no oh feck no!!! Glitter in a mask?! Really?! Am I gonna wear it to work? No. Am I gonna wear it out to dinner? No. What. Is. The. Fecking. Point?!?!?! Sososososososo stupid….. Makes me all the gladder (if that’s not a word, it should be) that I don’t do “social media”. Ugh….

  • Agona

I’m pretty cut throat about my skin care. I need to see actually results or I don’t repurchase. Unless glitter has magical skin care properties, no thanks!

  • Niche

i like social media but this kind of stuff is so questionable. Can you imagine washing this out? Scary.

Glamglow started with a legit product but it is quickly losing credibility. How can you take a skincare brand seriously when its product makes no sense. Packaging is one thing but even the cutesy Korean brands are not like this.

  • ChynnaBlue

That’s big star glitter, too. That can’t possibly feel good going on. No thank you.

  • Jeremy

You already know how I feel about this based on our previous talks *bangs head on desk*

    • Isabella Muse

lol! head desk, repeat! ;-D You need to comment more Jeremy so we can discuss this glitter issue haha!

      • Jeremy

Awww! But UGH it just makes me so mad lol social media has made the beauty industry into such a weird place! Im all about weird and interesting or even whimsical but at this point it feels like cheap pandering. I guess I’m just glad there are still brands like nars and hourglass for example that take themselves seriously

        • Isabella Muse

ITA! completely! Beauty and makeup comes in all shapes and sizes but at this point it’s just brands trying to shill the next great thing. I’m positive that if this glitter facial mask thing takes off EVERYONE will start doing it. Tarte, Urban Decay, etc…! *rolls eyes* It’s not so much about being unique anymore but more about what they think will cause a mad frenzy!

  • TropicalChrome

Given the difficulty in removing glitter nail polish, not just from the nail but all those bits that stick to your cuticles and fingers and everywhere below the elbows, all I have to say is: Oh Hell No.

There is a reason I don’t really do social media. This illustrates it perfectly.

  • Kish

Got myself all fired up to talk about how dumb this idea is and do these people think we are sheep or something???? Then…I remember…I have Tarte’s Spellbound Sprinkle Face & Body Glitter….

PS – for the record, I have never used it. I still feel shame.

    • Isabella Muse

LOL! you’re good though it isn’t in a face mask so we excuse you!

  • Sk

Wow I thought this would be something like memebox chrome mask or PTR gold mask but this is another level.

  • Jen

If we are being honest, then let’s talk about how glam glow has been overpriced gimmicks from the start. Those giant hunks of twigs and leaves in the mud mask ain’t doing jack for you other than making mask removal difficult.
Ayyyy don’t be hatin on unicorn snot! It really is great body glitter. I use it when I go to drag shows and I swear I’ve blinded a few people so far. No shame. No regrets. NEVER too old to have a lil fun.

  • Carol

This is dumb. What is the point? Like someone said above, you’re not going out in this mask. You’re the only one who will see it so who cares? Just another gimmick, again, to boost sales. Sick of companies doing this crap. (Yes I sound like the old lady who yells at kids for their ball coming in her yard)

  • Sara

Okay, and they said micro beads are bad for the environment! Common..this will end up down the drain, how great is that?

  • genevieve

I just can’t see how glitter would be good for your skin and it will go the way of microbeads……
Anyway I have just tried a soft facial scrub containing no nasties from an English brand called Amie. It was a freebie in a gift bag from one of our budget beauty shops Priceline in Aus. It is just fabulous – inexpensive, cruelty free and with a very light fragrance.
