NYX Slip Tease Full Color Lip Oil ($7) is a new pigmented lip oil that provides intense color with a satiny matte finish and a formula that keeps lips hydrated. As I mentioned in my earlier review of E.L.F. Tinted Lip Oil it seems like lip oil is back to trending but this time around everyone is trying to promote a more pigmented lip oil and you won’t get one more pigmented than this Slip Tease Full Color Lip Oil.

But there’s a problem.

Let’s take a look about my review and swatches and find out more about the problem.

NYX Slip Tease Full Color Lip Oil is available in 12 shade selections which are $7 each and 0.13 oz in size. These come with a flat sponge applicator that saturates well with the color and makes application easy.

I have to say this is the most misleading product I’ve come across in a while. I read a lot of reviews before I did my own and I’ve come to the conclusion that maybe I’m the only one that doesn’t understand the point of this release.

Why?

Because this is essentially a matte long-wearing lipstick formula (using “long-wearing” loosely here!). I mean, NYX has tons of different long-wearing matte lipstick formulas and shades why bother releasing yet another one? Soft Matte Lip Cream, Liquid Suede, and Lip Lingerie just to name a few. I don’t think Slip Tease Full Color Lip Oil brings a whole lot of innovation or uniqueness to the game. This is not a lip oil by any means. It’s not glossy, nor hydrating (but not terribly drying either) and it has the texture and wear of a creamy yet matte finish long-wearing lipstick. I swear my mind blew up trying to wrap my head around this product while providing a fair and honest review.

NYX Slip Tease Full Color Lip Oil Swatches (Red Queen and Breezy)

I think the main difference between this formula and many of the others NYX already has available would be it isn’t quite as long-wearing. It isn’t totally transfer-proof but is fairly long-wearing without migration or feathering on my drier lips. The other difference here would be this is a little thinner in consistency compared to some of NYX’s other lip products but it still has a creamy texture.

I found the application was pretty much the same as Liquid Suede Matte. It was a bit streaky initially but if you go over it a few times you can get a more smoother, even finish. It sets within a minute or so to a matte finish that was a tad bit drying but not hydrating at all which is why the lip oil thing could be a little misleading. The wear time was around six hours with a stain left behind as the color faded.

These are getting some rave reviews but I really didn’t like them and don’t see the point. Lip oils should be hydrating with a glossier finish. I expected the same with this formula only with a bit more pigment and color pay off. I don’t really love matte lip color and if I knew that was where this formula was going I’d probably wouldn’t have bothered purchasing.

NYX Slip Tease Full Color Lip Oil will likely please those seeking a lighter version of a liquid lipstick that removes easily but still has the benefits of a long wear. However, those seeking a pigmented lip oil might be a bit surprised or even shocked that isn’t what you get with this matte finish lipstick.

The colors are everything though. The peach one suits your summer tan 😉

Aw thanks! I didn’t think anyone would notice I’m a little darker 😀

NYX seems a bit odd to me lately. They have all these options, from the epic ink to this, to a new lipstick pen, to mattes, soft mattes, soft matte creams, and countless other variations. They’re also really hit or miss for me these days. I feel like I never know what I’m going to get. It’ll be a beautiful lip color but tastes like plastic and feels weird and tingly on my lips, or it’ll be a wonderful matte formula that feels comfy. I still check them out and have a couple favorites of theirs, but I’m shying more and more away from them.

Hey Muse, is there any oil listed in the ingredients? Just curious. I, too, like lip oils but have come to the conclusion that they are just not worth buying anymore because they feel great at first but don’t last very long at all. I was actually quite excited when I saw this post because i figured NYX would make a great product but this sounds horrible. I hate matte lipstick so thanks for your honest appraisal of this product. Money saved!

yes! Avocado, Almond, Jojoba, and Grape. I’ve had the same experience with a lot of them too! Milani was a disappointment due to it not being terribly hydrating nor providing any long-term benefits. My pleasure! I hate them too! This wasn’t really drying but to me because it is matte it kind of felt drying by default if that makes sense!

I’m glad I read your review before buying because I would have been very disappointed. This is not a lip oil.

Clearly misnamed, bec not a lip oil at all. ‘Course Nyx has so many lip products, they might as well mislead us into thinking this IS one. If they told it like it is, it would not be new or different. Am I starting to think like a make up company, with highly distorted reasoning?

Glad to read your review because I was anxiously awaiting hearing how they performed. I own a ton of the Lip Lingerie shades and didn’t want to buy a bunch of these if they basically perform almost identical. I was hoping for a long lasting lip product with a little sheen; a little less drying & heavy as the lip lingerie can be.

    • Isabella Muse

It’s basically the same formula but a little thinner and a lot less long wearing. I honestly didn’t get the point of this release at all!

  • Ashley

I’m glad you reviewed these too! I wanted them but I wanted a lip oil! Lol
    What were they thinking?

  • Nikole

Wow. Weird. I saw your arm swatches and almost fell off my chair- lip oil??? Lip ‘oil’ my a$$ – at best a matte lip color in a relatively ‘cream’ formula from the looks of your arm swatches. Don’t get me wrong – the pigment really shows up on your lip swatches and perhaps they are hydrating (based on your description of all the nice oils in it) – but how can you possibly call that lip ‘oil’, name it something else for goodness sake. Like you, I would expect a somewhat shiny, moisturizing appearance on the lips from a ‘lip oil’, not a matte color!

    • Isabella Muse

LOL! Right? It’s crazy pigmented def not lip oil!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Elle

Aw that stinks you didn’t like them, I actually like these & think they hydrating and lighter than the other formulas. They remind me of the Lancome Matte Shaker I have, which I really like but don’t like the line’s shade selection. I also didn’t find them streaky but I got more nude shades. I hope you can return yours!

    • Isabella Muse

sad sigh! Def didn’t love! Maybe I need to try a few of the nudes!
