E.L.F. Cosmetics Tinted Lip Oil ($6) is one of several budget friendly lip oils that have launched in the last year or so. Lip oils somehow feels like it is making a come back this Summer as I keep seeing a slew of drugstore and budget brands launching different formulas. I did notice that the formula has been revised slightly though as where as before brands were launching sheer or clear oils now brands are taking aim at tinted or pigmented formulas.

That’s the case with E.L.F.’s version which is available in five shade selections which give your lips a pop of color as well as nourishing ingredients to sooth and soften lips.

Here’s my review and swatches.

I picked up the shade Nude Kiss at my local E.L.F. store recently for $6 bucks. This is a 0.10 oz barrel which appears to hold a lot more product than it actually does (MAC Dazzleglass syndrome happening here). But it is still a cheaper option than say Milani Moisture Lock Oil Infused Lip Treatment.

As I mentioned above there are a lot of tinted lip oils available at the moment. That seems to be the newest “craze” when it comes to lip oils. So far, I’ve tried some really fun budget ones like Hard Candy Blooming Lip Oil. I like the idea of a tinted lip oil as not only do I get the hydration from the formula but also, get some nice color on my lips from it.

This formula is marketed as a sheer, hint of color finish but I thought Nude Kiss had a nice pop of color. I wouldn’t call it great color pay off by any means but it didn’t slack in drenching lips in nice color. It has a shiny, glossy finish and the formula apparently contains jojoba and apricot oil as well as vitamin E. There is a subtle minty flavor and fragrance.

I wanted to love the formula but it’s a little thin and runny which results in a streaky application. If I smooth over a few times with the sponge tip I can get a smoother more even finish but it applies rather unevenly. It also tends to want to run around my lip line! It migrates and moves about a lot during the shorter hour wear time. It’ll start on my lips but I’ll find it on my chin, my upper and lower lip line and beyond. It’s a formula that likes to move. It feels quite lovely on with a slicker texture but nothing oily or greasy. It provides very, very basic, light moisture and wears away very quickly.

E.L.F. Tinted Lip Oil seemed like a nice budget friendly pick but the short wear time, migration issues, and poor application make it a little bit of a waste of money sadly.

E.L.F. Tinted Lip Oil is available now at www.elfcosmetics.com.
