OGX Kandee Johnson Candy Gumdrop Shampoo and Conditioner is one of three limited edition Holiday scents that was created in collaboration with youTuber, Kandee Johnson. This review is probably a long time coming! Sorry about that as the first two scents I was quick to review but Candy Gumdrop kind of got pushed to the side after I was disenchanted with the entire collection. With fragrances like Sparkling Cider, Gum Drop, and Sugar Cookie I was expecting SO much more but sadly, these failed to deliver.

Here’s my thoughts on OGX Kandee Johnson Candy Gumdrop Shampoo & Conditioner.

In theory, the OGX Kandee Johnson Haircare Collection is a great idea. I mean, who doesn’t want shampoos and conditioners scented like cookies and candy right? Well, I take that back! There might be some people running away in absolute disgust at the idea but me? I embrace the gourmand! Bring it! I think that might be why the entire experience was disappointing for me.

First off, thus far none of the scents really smelled like what they were named after. Secondly, the scents aren’t very strong and they aren’t lasting so once you rinse your hair that’s it, gone, no sugar cookie, no cider, no gumdrops. It’s an in shower experience in my opinion and maybe, maybe if you get up close and personal you might catch a little hint of the scent in your hair.

Candy Gumpdrop actually has a light, sweet, slightly apple scent. No spicy gumdrop here, just a sweet, candyish apple. As I said above these really don’t live up to their namesakes. Sugar Cookie does NOT smell like sugar cookie and Gumdrop definitely doesn’t smell like gum drop.

Sad sigh!

The formula is a sulfate-free one so if you’re shopping sulfate-free hair care you’re in luck. I personally don’t love sulfate-free as somehow I’ve convinced myself I need a good lather to feel like my shampoo is actually cleansing my hair and this doesn’t produce a whole lot of lather. The conditioner is also quite weak in the moisture department so if you have hair that tangles easily you might need some a bit more hydrating.

But the saddest part of these reviews I’ve done thus far is the fact that the scents were so disappointing. I’m glad I didn’t get too crazy and purchase backups of these before trying them. Please make sure you smell them in stores before committing to a major haul because I think you just might be as sad as I was after trying them.

The OGX Kandee Johnson Haircare Collection is launching now at drugstores or online at ulta.com.

Tried them?

Can you recommend any shampoo/conditioner pairs that work well for you and leave a long-lasting scent in your hair? Thanks! 🙂

Lush has a great long lasting fragrance for me but they are silicone-free so it takes some adjustment to get used to those. If you really want long lasting scent though Lathers n Lights makes shampoo and conditioner in over 100 fragrances and a lot of them have a STRONG long lasting fragrance ;-D Their Lush dupes are divine!

I completely agree. The scent isn’t non existent. I was hoping it would be similar to Bath & Body Works Gum Drop shampoo/body wash they had about 7 years ago. Loved that. But this shampoo/conditioner combo was just blah.

I remember that one as well as the candle they had! I wish! the scent is a light candyish apple!

I’m another one that picked up all three scents and could not wait to use them. I got them at the evil empire and they were close to $6.00 each. So, that’s $36.00 down the drain…literally. OGX is an ok brand, but I bough them for the scent. Very disappointing. I read in the above comment about Lathers n Lights. I will head over there. 🙁

I couldn’t wait either and got them from Ulta. Totally a waste for me too. I gifted them to my sister because I doubt I’ll use them up! They aren’t hydrating for my hair and the scents are just meh! Sad sigh! Let me know how your Lathers n Lights experience goes 😀

I actually liked these ones. The sweet scent does linger in my hair. I wouldn’t say they smell like gumdrops though.

One I love is tea tree oil I have one from Costco that has lasted forever and my family says my hair smells good. Also Traders Joe’s has it. I like everything tea tre oil it relaxes me instantly so clean and nice.
I tried a Loreal with no sulfate (I have wavy, tons of volume hair) it didn’t do a thing left it flat I won’t be buying again. It didn’t add shine, bounce nothing. I don’t know if your hair has to get used to it?

That’s too bad. I got excited when I saw this. Oh well. I use Philosophy 3 in 1’s as shampoo and they are authentically true to their names and delish!
