Bobbi Brown Denim and Rose Palette Review: Bobbi Brown Denim and Rose Review and Swatches

Ahhh I hold in my hand a little beauty of a palette, the Bobbi Brown Denim and Rose Palette.

Sweetness!

Jump!

A palette for face, lips, and eyes themed around everyone’s fav fabric, denim.

I thought the Bobbi Brown Denim and Rose Palette packed a whole lot into a little space. The variety plus the introduction of many new shades, makes it a rather ideal pick for those who haven’t tried Bobbi Brown Cosmetics and of course, wonderful for those familiar with the brand as you won’t run across to many reruns.

It contains a total of 5 shadows, 4 lip products, and one blush. You can create a variety of looks with the palette and still have ideas left over for later plus it’s packed into a very small space making it ideal for travel.

The palette is a hard shell covered in denim. Don’t think that the denim design makes it flimsy because it has a decent weight to it and should travel well since the contents are packaged tight.

You’ll get a single rerun in the palette, Navajo Eyeshadow. Now Navajo could prove disappointing for some since it’s one of Bobbi’s favorite shades that she includes in almost every palette she releases. However, the rest of the shades are all brand new so I felt things evened out in the end and I wasn’t too rant-y about Navajo’s reappearance.

Along with Navajo you’ll get Gray Denim Eye Shadow (matte gray), Pink Granite Sparkle Eye Shadow (grayish pink), Dark Rinse Shimmer Wash Eye Shadow (full on navy denim blue), Iced Lilac Glitter Lip Gloss (sugary shade of white lilac), Hot Rose Lip Gloss (wearable fuchsia pink), Cool Rose Creamy Lip Color (dusty rose), Indie Rose Creamy LIp Color (brownish dusty rose), and Pink Rose Blush (dusty sheer pink).

The contrast of textures is interesting and a little intimating at first glance due to the mattes featured in the palette. I’m curious how Bobbi would use the mattes as I’m still struggling with them.

For my look below I lined with Dark Rinse (Dark Rinse is kinda Denim’s older sister) and applied Pink Granite all over my crease and lid.

Needless to say the shades are all very pigmented, blend easily (aside from the mattes), and have a smooth formula.

I struggled a fair bit with the mattes because I always find matte formula’s difficult to work with. I also felt there were slightly out of place in this palette. Navajo is workable but I’m unsure how Gray Denim fits in.

I wasn’t keen on Iced Lilac as it’s a bit too mod for my tastes but this is more about preference of color rather than anything bad.

Sadly, as gorgeous as the palette is, it does suffer from a fair bit of kick up causing shadow and blush to mix with the cream lip colors and gloss. This can become fairly messy (and gross) quickly if you aren’t careful during application.

  • Anyone looking for a palette that covers lips, eyes, and cheeks!
  • Anyone interested in taking on the blue trend that’s upcoming for Fall 2010.
  • Anyone who enjoys Bobbi Brown Palettes!

  • Anyone who doesn’t have the patience to deal delicately with a palette (rushed application will make for a messy palette that kicks up powder shadows and blush into the lip products).
  • Anyone who doesn’t like mattes mixed with sparkles (some may struggle with the matte side of this palette as I did).
  • Women who aren’t keen on sparkly, shimmer bits (This contains a fair bit of shimmer).

Although I had a few downfalls with the palette, I still enjoyed much of what was in it. I like how handy it’ll prove during travel (covers all the essentials) plus the denim design is cute. Bobbi Brown fans will see the potential of the palette and want it right away or at least being a Bobbi fan I think they will. It’s probably one of the more compact palettes I own from the line as it’s smaller than the normal face palettes that they put out. The overall look achieved should be rather flattering on brown eyes as I always find blue really adds some extra mystery to my eyes.

The Bobbi Brown Denim and Rose Collection will be available in July or get it now online at Nordstrom.

(Eyes: Dark Rinse, Upper Lash Line Pink Granite Lid and Crease Cheeks: Pink Rose Lips: Indie Rose with a dab of Iced Lilac on top!)

Hey, you did an EOTD shot! Love how the shimmers are so flattering on you 🙂 Sadly, I don’t think the palette is for me, can’t stand mattes and the denim packaging just doesn’t look that appealing to me.

    • the Muse

ha iris 😀 yea kinda right?! 😀 aw thanks! mmm colors are a little difficult to pull off but I’m just such a fan girl with bb that I loved it 😀 particularly pink granite and dark rinse 😀 def can’t work the mattes!!!!!!!

    • Jane

Be still my beating heart Ms. Muse! Just to get close to this! xo Love – STiILL broke in Connecticut. AKA Jane.

  • Paris B

This was a lemming until I realized I don’t do well with mixed palettes i.e. powder and cream but damn if Dark Rinse didn’t call out my name! Is it available as a single?

    • the Muse

not yet paris but I hope in the future?! 😀 dark rinse and denim are prob the two best shades in the collection 😀 I wanna try some on my lid next but it’s a damn dark shadow so must be careful with it!

  • JoElla

I am still not feeling the love with this one. I am rather bummed, but looking forward to getting the denim eyeliner!

  • Lindsay

I think this is my new current FOTD from you! You look so pretty

    • the Muse

hey hazel yay! 😀 it’s the new almay 3 in 1, review upcoming!

  • aretha

muse dear will you be reviewing the denim gel liner as well? :p the palette looks lovely on you but im not sure if i like this better than the previous antigua palette!

    • the Muse

absolutely aretha. Have to get over to a counter and grab it up. it’s really a matter of taste hun. You do get a few more options with the D&R palette plus nice finishes as Antigua has alot of matte going on, but if matte is your thing you might wish to indulge in that 😀

  • Anitacska

I love the promo images, but the palette… I don’t know. Only really want the pink shimmery shade, and I don’t really do mattes, so not sure if I actually want the whole palette. But it is very pretty. 🙂

    • the Muse

anita the mattes I felt were a little out of place for some reason….unless I’m not talented enough to work them into the look 😀 that’s always a possibility lol! but yea me either, terrible with mattes!

  • Kristina

I want the Pink Granite and Dark Rinse super bad! Going to email Bobbi Brown’s site and see if they’re going to be available outside of this palette.

    • the Muse

hopefully you hear something good kristina as I can get on board with a full size of pink granite!

      • Kristina

        This is what they said:

At this time, there are no plans to introduce the Pink Granite Sparkle Eye Shadow or Dark Rinse Shimmer Wash Eye Shadow individually. They are exclusives to the limited-edition Denim & Rose Face Palette. As an alternative to Pink Granite, try PINK PEARL Metallic Eye Shadow (a pale icy pink) and I suggest SAPPHIRE Shimmer Wash Eye Shadow (a rich blue) or MIDNIGHT Metallic Eye Shadow (a vibrant navy blue) in place of the Dark Rinse shade.

        • the Muse

cheers kristina at least we have dupes 😀 but damn I’ll die a little inside when dark rinse is gone from my palette!

  • gio

The Dark Rinse shade is absolutely stunning but none of the others excite me to be honest. And I don’t really like palettes that mix creams and powders, they can get so messy!

  • Marina

I love the Pink Granite and Gray Denim colors!!! And that iced Lilac lipgloss. And the packaging is so adorable! I’ve never tried Bobbi Brown, but everything I see from her lately is attracting me!

    • the Muse

marina wait until Holiday 2010 you’ll be an utter convert hehe!

  • Honor

You should not tease us , Muse, tell us what is coming up for Holliday 2010 …PLEASSSSSSE . Personally I love thsi palette, but I do prefer Bobbi Matte shadow rather than her metallic..
personally I would use navajo as an ollover base, the grey on the lid and dark rinse as a liner. or dark rinse very sheerly applied on the lid with the grey in the crease .. the only one I may not use will be the pink gray glitters..
Except if the gray is extremely pigmented like the fog shade in the pink raspberry palette, but it does not seem though….

anyway, love this palette like I loved the antigua palette that I bought haver reading your review..and you were so right it is fabulous even for someone who is not too much into shimmers….thank you

    • the Muse

hehe my lips are sealed for nor honor but soon! 😀

great combo! 😀 bust try that next round! nope not like the pink raspberry at all, much lighter 😀

      aw shucks my pleasure *hugs*

      • Honor

so this shall do a nice was of grey on the lid, the fog from pink raspberry was more of a liner and thus quite difficult to blend.
ok will wait for your sneak preview for late fall and holliday. can you just tell me if there is a nude collection to come later in fall? she usually has one, but I am not sure thisyear since tehre is apparently something called dark velvet coming next….
but anyway I do respect your sense of mystery..always important for a ood muse 🙂

        • the Muse

haven’t heard on nude Honor 😀 but hope!? I like the nude collections she does! LOL well not so much mystery just embargo 😀

  • Gia

Just came from Nordstorm and saw this collection! Bought the highlighter in Opal and the single eye shadow. I want the palette but I know I will never use the lip glosses. hate combo palettes with lip stuff in it.. It just gets dusty and gunky from the shadow and blush dust…

  • DM

I just got this at macys and the colors go well with my coloring, even all the lippies which is surprising:) Just noticed that I have an exact dupe for the dark rinse in my aveda blue smoke eyeshadow (have had it forever) but the colors are so nice that it does not bug me!
