Sephora Professionnel Platinum Concealer Airbrush #57 Review

I’m a finger girl. I apply my foundation with my fingers, occasionally I apply eyeshadow with fingers, and of course, I apply concealer with my fingers. Dab it on, smooth it out, and done. I really like the E.L.F. Studio Concealer Brush, actually I swear by it, but prior to discovering it I used alot of various concealer brushes from many high end brands but never really got the results I get when I simply use my fingers (my free fingers mind you, not my over $30 beauty tool ha).

Recently, I saw the Sephora Professionnel Platinum Concealer Airbrush #57 for $24 and thought to myself how I seriously didn’t need it. What was the point when I was so very happy with my three buck E.L.F. brush and my trusty dab and pat motion with my free fingertips?

But I decided to try it anyway and I’m here to say you NEED it.

Sephora dubs it the brush that was designed to achieve a flawless, airbrushed finish. It promises a flawless, smooth finish under my eyes, on my face, and over blemishes using the rounded shape that would sweep concealer on lightly or heavier depending on what sort of coverage I needed.

Now I don’t use concealer on my face so I was a bit skeptical as I truly believed the brush would indeed give a flawless finish on my face however under my eyes was another matter.

After purchasing it I felt like perhaps the bristles would be a bit too big to really fit the contour of my eye well. Granted, the brush head isn’t big by any means but it seemed alot of brush at the time for the smaller area under my eyes.

Turns out I was VERY wrong.

Wow.

The results I achieved truly were flawless and airbrushed in appearance plus the brush fit snugly and beautifully well under my eyes. To use it I dabbed the brush in my concealer of choice, I proceeded to dab the brush under my eyes gently, and followed up by sweeping the brush under my eyes with firm strokes. Presto! Done! Flawless!

I tried it with liquids, mousse, and cream concealers and it worked brilliantly with each and everyone but I would like to say that it worked best with my HG concealer of the moment, Maybelline Dream Mousse Concealer. Heck, it even did something wonderful with firmer, dryer concealers like the Balm Time Balm Concealer. Suddenly concealers tossed in my makeup graveyard had a new lean on life thanks to this brush!

I noticed my concealer applied lighter using this brush and I used considerably less product but still managed to achieve good coverage even with less product.

Moral of this story?

This little brush is a Makeup Gods sent and deserves a space in your daily beauty arsenal.

An absolute must have product with a big old Muse Approval for purchase.

Get it, now, you NEED it.

Loves!

wow i need this ASAP!! i bought the new foundation one and it is OMG amazing!!! i cant even explain how good it applied, blended, everything!!!! i almost got the concealer one too, i walked around with it clenched in my hand, finally pryed it out convinving myself i already had 1,000 concealer brushes!! guess i need this one too!! thank you for letting me know it is worth it!

    • the Muse

I really need the foundation one krystin ;-D YOU NEED it ;D! my pleasure 😀

  • LINDARRAGNAR

muse thats just like me!! i usually apply foundation and concealer with my fingers but i went to sephora one day and bought that and LOVE it! i don’t use it all the time but its fantastic with mousse foundations.

i love how its not too much and so affordable!

    • the Muse

linda you’re right ;-D it is rather affordable as some brushes are 10 or more dollars on top of this retail price!

  • Chasity

OH MUSE!! I looked at this today and convinced myself that I don’t need it; now I’m having second thoughts. I have NEVER liked foundation/concealer brushes until I recently purchased the Stila one-step complexion brush which I totally love! I bought it because I saw youtube vids of Sarah Lucero using it with convertible colors and it really does work wonderfully with both the convertible colors and foundation. I resisted the Sephora brushes because I thought they seemed very similar to the Stila brush…have you tried it? I’m wondering about a comparison now…

    • the Muse

mmm never tried that one Chasity but now you have me curious will have to check it out!

  • Lulee

muse, i gotta question… when i use a fluffy blendy brush (like mac 224) to apply concealer it would make my undereyes appear so dry! the buffing motion would lift all the dead skin and cling to it and just make it a terrible mess. anyway i know you say you have dry undereyes, so this brush didn’t cause this same problem for you?

    • the Muse

lulee yes! I fell victim to this since I went without eye cream for two days (my skin was having a freaky moment so I avoided skincare for a few days) and my eyes were all kinds of crazy dry so indeed it was a messy application using this brush however with proper hydration I had no problems at all 🙂 I feel this is considerably softer and denser than 224 so that might also help!

I hope you don’t mind me jumping in, but are you exfoliating and using a good moisturizer? I used to not be able to use any brushes on my skin to apply foundation because I had that happen but now that I exfoliate really good in the mornings and use heavy moisture and eye cream at night with something light during the day…I don’t have that problem. Also remember to be gentle when you buff-that seems like common sense but it really doesn’t take much pressure to blend makeup…otherwise you are basically exfoliating using a brush rather then blending. 🙂

  • LisaL

Muse, I’ve been looking at brushes and while I haven’t exactly been looking for a good concealer brush, I am sorely tempted by this one!

Btw and if you don’t mind me asking, do you have any recommendations for a good contouring brush (for bronzer, highlighting, etc)?

I would heartily appreciate any and all help! 🙂

    • the Muse

hi lisa! It’s a great one ;-D I really don’t have a good contouring brush idea as I don’t really contour or highlight to be honest 🙁 But I really love mac brushes for most everything if that helps at all 🙂

  • Christy

Hi muse! are you planning to check out the foundation brush as well? im a concealer junkie too, have you tried Sonia Kashuck’s hidden agenda concealer palette, i think that one is pretty good, just to let you know. thanks for the great review!

    • the Muse

def christy ;-D I already ordered it ;-D aw my pleasure, thanks for taking time out to read my thoughts!

  • elizabeth

Ok, that just went right on my shopping list at sephora! I’ve been using the elf studio concealer brush, and I like it, but the top fell off the first time I washed it. Oops. Anyway, this brush sounds amazing, and I’m planning a birthday haul anyway, so yay!

  • LorraineER

Damnit I was hoping I didn’t need this Muse!! lol! I put #56 in my Sephora online cart and I was telling myself that i didn’t need a separate one for concealer but I’m lacking a decent method for concealer. I don’t like using my fingers and I don’t like typical concealer brushes to blend either so something like this makes sense to me. Both the foundation brush and this one will be costly though :/

    • the Muse

sorry lorraine must have imho lol! I’d get the concealer one first and follow up later with foundation ;D!

  • Cj

Oh Muse, Your really making me want to cheat on my beloved Sigma and pick up this brush lol 😛 Have you tried the #56 foundation brush?

  • Terri

Too funny – I just bought the new airbrush set they offer at Sephora that has this one, the foundation brush, 2 eyeshadow brushes, and the powder brush. Amazing, all of it! I highly recommend getting the set – wicked deal too!

  • Melissa

Considering my concealer of choice is now discontinued, i.e. Maybelline Dream Mousse Concealer (GRRRRR!!!), I think I have to get this brush. Muse, I’m still horribly depressed about this (as we’ve both mentioned over on that thread) and am now on the ultimate concealer mission to find its replacement. Any suggestions on where to start? Haha

    • the Muse

melissa STOCK UP at soap.com ;-D they have a few shades in stock girl! no suggestions yet but Imma hunting! it was my fav too!

  • Gloria

I’m getting this with my next paycheck. I think it’ll also help with the settling into fine lines problem since you end up using less products for better coverage. Hmmm must get to try that out. Thanks for reviewing it Muse!

  • Emily F

I had to get this brush after reading this post. And you are so right! I could not believe what a difference this brush makes. I used it with my Laura Mercier secret concealor and it made it smooth as fine wine and that is saying a lot! Now I am wondering what other brushes I need to switch over to. Thanks

  • annie

MUSE I just switched concealers and think I found a new HG!! You may like it too! I usually hate MAC concealers but this one is soo good!! Try the MAC Pro Longwear concealer!

  • Rachel

Hi Muse! After I read this post, I decided that I had to check out your HG Maybelline Dream Mousse Concealer AND the concealer brush! I just wanted to give you a heads up that it looks like they are discontinuing the Maybelline Dream Mousse Concealer, my local Walgreens,Target and Wal-Mart don’t carry it anymore, but I was able to find a few on clearance at a local grocery store (but not in my shade!). I am on a hunt to find one since you recommend it so highly. Just wanted to give you a heads up in case you wanted to stock up. Also, the concealer brush also comes in a 5 piece airbrush set with a nice case for $65. I am really trying to resist buying it but I am not sure how long I will be able to hold out!

  • Kahani

OMG Muse… I came across a link to this post in Not Martha (I must have missed it because I was touring NZ at the time) and I swear the Everyday Minerals Eye Kabuki brush I have just sitting around is a PERFECT DUPE. I just never thought of using it this way! I just used to swipe on my BB concealer, which no matter what I did was always too cakey, and it’s MAGIC. Thank youuuu! Will road test it over a few days but I feel a rave review coming up. =D

    • the Muse

ah Kahani awesome ;-D Not Martha a fav read of mine ;-D Interesting will have to check that one out ;-D Do keep me posted ;D!

  • yangtanw

i got this brush yesterday and it’s really amazing!!! i used it this morning with time balm on my under eye area and sun spots… it applies and blends out concealers flawlessly!!! love love love! heck! this brush is even more expensive than the concealers I use! LOL

    • the Muse

LOL yang true it is more expensive than concealer but so worth it right?!?!?! I don’t really like time balm, too drying for me, but it even applies time balm smoothly and perfect under my eyes!

  • Califabulous

Ah this brush sounds amazing! But it also sounds like it’s better with liquid formula typ concealers and I use Mac studio finish in he pot. Do you think this will work? Great blog!
