Maybelline Dream Mousse Concealer Review and Swatches

So you know how I’m always on the quest for the perfect concealer? I do tend to get all Indiana Jone-like when it comes to locating concealer. By now I’ve tried hundreds……What? Some people love eyeshadow, some gloss, and me, I just happen to be passionate about concealer.

Maybelline Dream Mousse Concealer 1

Get this, good times, I discovered Maybelline Dream Mousse Concealer this weekend and I likey. I know right? That’s so saying something considering I wouldn’t trust the drugstore with something as important as concealer. But indeed its heck of a good stuff.

Jump for the review.

I kinda dig on Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse Foundation, I mean it’s not OMG incredible but it is decent so I was ever so willing to indulge in the new Maybelline Dream Mousse Concealer.

Maybelline Dream Mousse Concealer 2

Honestly, I didn’t expect alot. I’ve tried drugstore concealer here and there and I’ve always been far, far, far from impressed. But Dream Mousse Concealer is the real deal, very good stuff, count the Muse oh so impressed.

So basically it’s about the same texture as the foundation. It’s a fluffy whipped affair that’s feels super smooth and creamy but also sports a slightly silicon-feel. It could prove a bit too much for some because it’s honestly a very rich formula that’s heavily pigmented. For me? It’s a love. You have to be uber extra careful when you apply and just use a tiny bit as too much could make you look scary as all hells. A tiny dab should cover your entire eye area up very nicely as it’s pigmented enough to work magic on fine lines, dark circles, etc……I was worried it would crease and cake since the formula is quite rich but thankfully not it wears quite well throughout the day minus creasing.

Maybelline Dream Mousse Concealer 4

The danger is there and you can easily go overboard with it and end up very disappointed so remember just a tiny dab for each eye will get you really great coverage. It blends very well and conceals all my problem areas perfectly.

Overall, you can count me impressed. I need to use it a few more days before deciding but I’m leaning towards adding this one to my HG (holy grail) collection of concealers. It’s smooth, it’s creamy, it’s crazy pigmented, and it makes this Muse all fresh and awake looking. I’m thinking this one deserves a great big Muse Approval!

Loves it!

Worthy of a haul in my humblest especially if you’re suffering from tired looking eyes. I got mine at Target for $6 bucks and some change.

Anyone try?

Dying to hear what you think!

  • MissTat

thanks for the review! I myself am either into Benefit Erase Paste or Clinique All About Eyes (covered with a good dusting of Powderflage, of course) but this would be worth a try when I want to give my wallet a budget rest

    • the Muse

      hey misstat!

Not much for Erase Paste myself but love Benefit Boi-ing 😀 which all about the eyes are you using? Was that the click pen? I like that one myself 🙂

  • Marsadie

Loved Dream Matte Mousse Foundation myself but it rubbed off like crazy. I really want to try/love the concealer!

    • the Muse

      hey marsadie!

I only use it on off days when I’m running around for this and that otherwise it’s def not an HG foundation for me 😛 I really like the concealer, count me impressed, that’s saying something as drugstore concealer + the muse=FAIL!

      • Desiree

I know this isn’t a new post but hopefully you’ll still see this question I have the same skin tone as you in the majority of your concealers What shade for this concealer did or do you still use? Can you please recommend any drugstore eye gels creams and oil/serums for under eye hydration Thank you for all your helpful reviews I always check for your opinion before I purchase the majority of my makeup

  • MissTat

well it’s not a click pen. hmm… ok. It’s a tube-y thing. Kinda like TFSI? It covers well , and it’s very creamy but sometimes it settles into the tiny little lines I obsess about (I’m only 23, so they’re probably not as bad as I think they are lol) so, not HG at least just yet

  • Jen

Wow… I never would have guessed that this concealer was any good!! Thanks for changing my mind, I am on the hunt for a better concealer now so this post was very well timed! 🙂

    • the Muse

love it Jen! it’s quite good 😀

If you try give me deets how you like or dislike it curious minds!

  • Nia

Oh, I do love your concealer posts. I think after reading this, this concealer jumped the queue. Especially after my not so successful first test with the Clinique All About Eyes concealer….
    Thanks 🙂

      • Nia

Oh, I tried to get it, but they do not have it yet (I hope) here… as always, we are the last to get stuff 😉

          • Nia

There you are, making the wait really easier 😀
I am in Switzerland, the land of cheese and chocolate! 😉

          • the Muse

chocolate! w00t! No likey cheese though haha! 😀 Nia do you guys already have the mousee foundation? hopefully soon you’ll see this :-D!

          • Nia

Yes, we have it, so I hope it will arrive soon 😉
Otherwise I will test the YSL Touche Eclat, but it will be a pricey test.

          • the Muse

oh nia don’t get the YSL if you can get the dior pen much better! I have a comparison review up around here somewhere! yay I hope you see it too dear!

  • blu3

Cool I wanna try this! I’ve always had a soft spot for Maybelline out of all d/s brands especially their mousse products. Could use a good concealer for me undereyes!

  • BeautyBitch

I’m so surprised to hear that this concealer is decent. I tried the Dream Matte Mousse foundation a few years ago, thinking its dry touch silicone formula would be all kinds of lovely for my oily skin but recoiled in horror when I looked in the mirror and found that my skin looked like a dry scaly mess! It made my skin look patchy and in daylight my cheek looked like the surface of snakeskin.

Obviously if it’s Muse-approved I’m going to have to take a closer look to satisfy my curiosity.

  • Betty

Thanks for the review Muse! It’s funny how your thing is concealers when, well from what I can tell from your pictures, you don’t look like you have anythign to cover up! I, myself am always on the hunt for the perfect concealer as well as foundation. Nothing ever lasts well on my uber oily skin 🙁
BTW, what are your top fav concealers? ^^

    • the Muse

You are TOO kind Betty 😀 I cover it well LOL!

My favs are the Bobbi Brown Concealer Palette, Mally Concealer System, Shills Electric Eye, Kevin Beautymaker Concealer, and this could slide into number five!

I have reviews up for most of this stuff if you need ’em!

      How about you?

      Fav 5?

  • Jodie

Muahahaha. I knew you would eventually find something at the DS you would like!!! Grats on HG =)

  • rachel

    hi muse 😀
is this good for concealed blemishes and acne scars? 😀
i saw this at walmart yesterday and i wanted to buy it but i wasn’t sure.
    😀

    • the Muse

im not sure rachel. I honestly don’t conceal my pimples and stuff with concealer. I do worry this may be a bit much for the face as it’s so pigmented but you never know, it might work a treat, so far it’s acted as my under eye concealer only and that’s been a fab-o experience hun!

  • Rosa

I loved Maybellines Dream Liquid Foundation and I thought I would feel the same about the concealer. I’ve bought and used the concealer and I hate it. It makes my undereyes area look extremely dry and when I smile it really creases my undereyes like crazy. Oh well.

(Hey, my site is also running on the Thesis Theme ^_^)

  • Nia

Oh, thanks for the hint. You get the YSL recommended a lot in shops. As soon as you ask for a concealer, they give you the Touche Eclat. Will look for the review.
    Have a good weekend! 🙂

  • Mandy

I heard bad things about the foundation though. like it cakes or something.
Is this better than the foundation?

    • the Muse

Hey Mandy I’ve heard that it stinks too, the foundation that is, but I kinda like it 🙂 I really liked the concealer, it’s turning into HG for me 🙂

  • Sephiria

mind letting me know what colour did you get? would want to get it off the net because its not available where i am yet and it looks good!!

  • Hailey

I have two “wrinkles” under my eyes. One under each eye, that I’ve had since I was really young. They are pretty deep and I was wondering if this would crease on me.

    • the Muse

hi hailey it doesn’t crease on me but it all depends. depends how dry your skin is, how much prepping you do before using, etc..I can’t really say if it will or won’t crease on you as results will vary from skin type to skin type. I can’t say how it would react on two wrinkles? I have fine lines and didn’t experience creasing but my eyes are well hydrated so that helps.

      Hope this helps?!

  • stephanie

I myself suffer from very dark undereye circles…its herditary :(..And when i say very dark i mean…VERY DARK all around my eyes..its pretty scary..neway, i have been looking for a good concealer that gives me great and full coverage without having to spend $30…ive tried…maybelline mineral power..covergirl invisible..covergirl trublend..covergirl concealer stick…neutrogena sheer cover kit..hardcandy pallette etc….the neutrogena and mineral power ones were good…but they never gave me the kinda coverage i needed. Today i bought the dream matte mousse concealer and OMG….I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO EXCITED ABOUT MAKEUP!….as soon as i put it on my mouth dropped. i could not believe how well the coverage was and easily it blended into my skin. i HIGHLY recommend this product..i almost started crying of how good it worked.

    • the Muse

hey stephanie! aw I understand 🙁 I really LOVED this too so it’s nice to hear you’re enjoying it so much! Awwww I’m so glad it works that great for you doll! It’s always so exciting when I find an HG concealer :-D!

    • D

OMGGGG REALLLYYY?? I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM! AND HAVE TRIED SO MANY PRODUCTSS!!!! GOSH I THINK IM GONA GO BUY IT
MY CIRCLES ARE SO DARK ITS SCARY, IT MAKES ME LOOK MUCH OLDER AND IM ONLY 21!!!!! LET ME KNOW HOW MUCH IT COVERED UP SO I GO BUY IT!

      • the Muse

01-10 fair I believe d? skin color is nc30 I believe? I don’t use mac foundation so not sure really 😀

  • Elise

After Lancome’s Photogenic concealer went into oblivion (along with Prescriptive’s Flawless Skin concealer), I thought I was doomed…I tried Giorgio Armani’s new concealer, one by NARS, and none of those seemed to be right!! Very annoying. I was in the drugstore picking up some necessities, and thought I would just *try* the Dream Concealer…and it’s literally amazing!! Dare I say it might even be better than the Photogenic…and the Flawless Skin…it goes on so smoothly and almost disappears!! I’m in love!!!

    • the Muse

yay elise 😀 so glad you discovered this! Must agree it’s incredible, truly a great concealer and very much better than both photogenic and flawless skin 🙂

  • Megan

I can’t thank you enough for recommending this! It’s not quite THE holy grail of concealers, but I suffer from a lot of the same under-eye concerns as you, and for the price this is so much more than I expected! Definitely brightens the whole eye area and resists creasing better than a lot of the others I have tried. I’m still searching avidly for an affordable concealer that covers prominent dark circles and doesn’t crease every time I crack a smile, but this is a good alternative for now!

    • the Muse

megan that’s great news so glad you’re lovin’ 😀 Probably the best in the cheaper range for me 😀 have you tried the new physicians formula trio? that’s pretty nice!

  • the Muse

julia not sure as I rarely use concealer to cover up zits, blemishes. You might want something that’s liquid to do that as this is a creamy mousse and might sit weirdly on skin but not sure hun. I’m one for letting spots breath and not concealing them with concealer and such 😀

  • Ally

Hi Muse! Since you seem to be such a concealer expert 🙂 I thought I’d ask you a question about them. I have dark circles and so I am always looking for a good concealer to cover them with. However, I find that the ones that are well pigmented and cover well usually end up creasing into my “fine lines” (I’m early 20s so can’t see the lines without concealer). I use lotion, then eye cream, then a silicon based primer, blend my concealer out, and then set it with a silicon powder as well but I still seem to have this issue. Don’t know if you can offer any advice but I would really appreciate any input on the subject. Thanks so much!

    • the Muse

      hi ally.

maybe skip the primer and the setting powder…..seems like you go alot going on. trying applying after you’ve prepped with eye cream (let it dry) and blend out minus the primer and powder after.

      Hope this helps 🙂

  • Amber

    Love this product!

I’m a teen girl who’s trying to find cosmetics that don’t make me look all gross and aged, and originally, I thought this would be chalky and matte, but when I put it on, it looked AMAZING and my eyes never ever look sleepy, even after an all-nighter.

P.S. Muse, I love your blog, you’ve pretty much showed me what’s what about cosmetics.

    • the Muse

aw thanks amber so glad you enjoy my babble 😀

awesome you discovered this and are enjoying it. It’s really fab stuff so always exciting when people write in to say they adored it too!

  • Denise

Omg I have this concealer it great!!! Im only 12 but im a model so I am used to wearing make-up almost everywhere! and I wore this a whole day and I didn’t get cakey at all!

  • Lindsay

Well Muse, you were so very right about this concealer! It works like a freakin dream for me! I’m amazed that a product I bought for 6 bucks works this well to cover up all the redness going on for my skin.

And the staying power? It was awesome. I bought this and the dream matte powder and used the two together and my skin looked better than it has a such a long time. I even went out to a festival all day long in 90 degree, so humid weather and this stuff didn’t budge. And my skin that is normally so oily by the end of the day was still matte as could be. No touch ups needed!

I was so ready to hate this concealer, because I had tried the dream mousse foundation last summer and my face looked like a slip & slide within an hour. But this concealer is amazing! Thank you so much for the recommendation, with out you I never would have thought of purchasing this!

    • the Muse

YAY lindsay! that’s such fabulous news! I really like it. It’s become true HG for me 😀 Totally loves it. So happy it worked so well for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! xoxoxoxoxo! very excited about it working out so well for ya 😀 I am a concealer snob so I wasn’t so sure either but it quickly became HG works better than concealers I’ve spent $50 bucks and upward on!

  • Vivienne

hey! 🙂 I’m asian and i have very oily skin. would you recommend this to me? and what shade should i use? thanks!

    • the Muse

hi vivienne it’s difficult to recommend a shade when I haven’t a clue what your skin tone is?! there are several shades of the product available and you’re tell me you’re oily and Asian that doesn’t really help?

  • Christina

I went out to a FNO event in Chicago and they had someone doing Maybelline makeovers. I always thought I needed a lot of foundation to cover up major blotchiness but the MUA just dabbed this all over my face, put some of the Mousse Blush on, and then went over it all with powder and it looks about a million times better, more natural, more even, AND LONG LASTING than my BE does. This is amazing. I need to get my butt out to CVS and buy this now! Should’ve believed you Muse! I just didn’t think it was enough to cover everything but it totally is!

    • the Muse

oh that’s fab news Christina. It’s my HG at the moment, I really love it 😀

  • Erin

Have you tried Sonia Kashuk’s Hidden Agenda concealer palette? It’s pretty amazing stuff.

  • sarah M

im in desperate need of an under eye concealor and i didn’t like physicians formula. i may try this tomorrow!

  • Melissa

Muse, I must tell you, I think we are kindred spirits! As much as I love makeup in general, I am ALWAYS on the prowl for the perfect concealer. I have this obsession and, like you, very high expectations for my HG concealer. I’m 25 with horrible hereditary dark circles and occasional dryness. I’ve tried drug store concealer, Clinique All About Eyes, Ulta and Sephora brand stuff, MAC, you name it, I’ve probably tried it to no avail. Currently I had been using Bare Minerals Bisque on the bottom and Ulta’s Incognito Concealer Stick on top, both of which do an alright job to cover my circles, but there was still something lacking. After reading your review for the Garnier Nutritioniste Moisture Rescue Gel Cream (which I bought 2 days ago and LOVE so far) I began to peruse the rest of your site and let me just say WOW. Girl, I am impressed! So after reading your review for the Maybelline Dream Mousse Concealer I had to pick it up when I was at the store today. You were SO right! This stuff is the real deal. A tiny bit goes a long way and does a fantastic job covering my so far impossible to cover dark circles! I’ve had it on all day now and it still looks great. Pairing this concealer with my Smashbox Halo Hydrating Perfecting Powder (which I haven’t checked to see if you’ve reviewed yet, but I love the stuff) makes my skin look flawless! Thanks so much for recommending such a great product! Can’t wait to read more of your reviews and check out some more great beauty buys! 🙂

    • the Muse

ha melissa sounds like we are ;-D omg reading this comment totally made my day thanks so much! I love hearing such great feedback and success stories ;-D XOXOXOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am thrilled to hear this worked for you hun! I really was impressed that after trying so many both high and low end that this ended up becoming such a must have item for me ;-D!!!!!!!

big hugs! and I hope we talk again soon in comments!

      • Melissa

Your excitement makes me even more happy! Hugssssss! 🙂 Now I have a new beauty product buddy/guru! I really wanted to ask you 2 other things while we’re chatting haha. Have you seen any long term benefits from using the Garnier Moisture Rescue Gel Cream? And second, are there any eye creams that you know of that will help to actually reduce dark circles? I’m not really looking to spend $75 for eye cream, and I’ve read great things about Clinique’s All About Eyes Rich, which is moderately priced, but I figured I’d see what you thought first! 🙂 xoxo

        • the Muse

heyyyyyyy melissa ;-D what’s up!? hugs! Count us buddies ;-D Haven’t since long term benefits but my skin is EXTRA dry right now so I’m not using it at the moment but did use it for most of Summer. One thing I did notice was it keep my skin hydrated on end due to the HA in the mix but no long term results unless I used it daily. No, no, and hell no lol! I’ve tried ALOT but none of them reduce dark circles. Def NOT ;-D I don’t love All About The Eyes but I would love it if I was younger. It really depends on your age. Late twenties/early 30’s I do recommend it. It’s nice enough but I do believe you need a little something better at that age group ;-D Hope this helps hun!

  • Nadiah

    Heyy Muse!

Thanks for recommending this product, tho i dont think i can get it in Singapore.. I have very dark circles, puffy eyes and sometime bad concealers settle in the fine lines just below the bags especially when i smile or laugh alot! Eww rite? Im currently using bobbi brown in sand, not the HG but ay ok for now..i like Revlon’s Spa click pen concealer and have that on 01. Can u do a review on this?:) Shu Uemura’s pro concealer is not too bad as well, mine is 7YR. What colour do you think suits me best?

    • the Muse

I don’t have access to the revlon spa click nadiah, they don’t sell it in the US I don’t believe. I dunno what colour best suits you hun having never seen you before and not even knowing your skin tone?! Kinda like picking a needle in a hay stack recommending a shade of concealer to someone I’ve never seen before or know of their tone. Sorry!?!?!

  • michelle

Hey MUSE I want to buy this concealed cuz it seems great…but before I do I was wondering if u know if it gets into ur pores. Have have a few pimples and don’t want them to get any worse. Also does the product go away quickly? Btw I love ur blogs can’t wait to hear from u!

    • the Muse

hi michelle I don’t have larger pores so I’m really not an expert on clogged pores also I only use under my eyes and not my face so again can’t be sure about it clogging pores. Sorry, wish I could be of more help hun!

Thank you! So glad you enjoy Musings!

  • charanya

thanks for that review.i am really impressed.i have really thick dark circles,so,will this really cover it up nicely? can you tell me the cost of this concealer in Indian rupees?it will be useful for me to plan and buy.

  • elizabeth

Hi, I really love this concealer! I’ve been using it since last year, and it blends perfectly…I’ve tried concealers from YSL and Lancome to this one, and it is my absolute favorite. Unfortunately, I’ve not been able to find it anywhere lately!! I’m about to start looking on the internet…but please don’t tell me they’re going to stop making this!! Do you have any insight on this? And if they are going to stop, do you know of a comparable concealer? I prefer a matte finish, but something that can blend easily too…I used to like Prescriptives Flawless Skin and Lancome Photogenic, until they stopped making those too!

    • the Muse

hi elizabeth I don’t have any inside info about this sorry. I’ve seen it everywhere though in new York. cvs, walgreens, etc…hope this helps!>

  • Helena

Drats – this one is discontinued!! *weeps* I have not been able to find a really great conceiler – like ever. And I’ve tried most.

      • Christina

Noooooooooooooooooooo I was wondering why all the shelves I saw were empty!!!!!!!! I picked up a few extras but nowhere near enough!

  • Melissa

Ugh!!!!! Now I’m gonna run to my local supermarket and if they have any left I’ll have to snatch them all up! This is so depressing! A great affordable concealer GONE. Just when I’m about to run out, too… 🙁 Thanks for the heads up ladies.

Muse, it’s been a while since we’ve chatted! Now I might need your advice on something comparable with this. Hope you’ve been doing well! 🙂

    • the Muse

hey melissa OMG totally having a heart attack over it too ;-D lol! I tried to haul as many as possible. It was just introduced too WTF? I’m great hun and you!? NOTHING COMES CLOSE 🙁

  • Elise

I wrote a letter to maybelline too… Muse, can you use your makeup powers to convince maybelline to continue making this amazing concealer. I’ve been stopped in my gym’s locker room by women wanting to know what kind of concealer I’m using. Which is really only a small testament to this concealer! My friends who normally use Dior and lancome swear by this stuff! They CANNOT stop making it!!?!

  • Jane

Hi Muse – I know, such an old post of yours lol better late than never! Is the shade Light 0-1 a good match for your skin? Are you an NC20-25? Just wondering, saw some being sold and I want to try it but I’m worried that light 0-1 would be too light for me 🙂

    • the Muse

jane I haven’t a clue I’m an i20-40 in shiseido if that helps but I don’t wear mac base so don’t know my shade ;D!

      • Jane

Oh lol I see 🙂 But is it the right shade for you – L 0-1? I think we may may wear the same shade – or are close (I think I would be a Nyx hd foundation 04 sand beige or 03 too lol) Thanks 😀

  • Dalia

hey muse What im going to suggest is going to sound silly but Mousse was the best concealer ive used! ive tried absolutely everything and nothing covers those circles like maybelline mousse..
so i thought maybe if we petition and let maybelline know that they have cut a great product!! if all the women who love it would “sign” this petition maybe maybelline will start making it again!

    • the Muse

dalia You can try ;-D it might work! Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I loved it too! damn shame it’s gone :-/

  • Elise

Has anyone tried L’oreal magic mousse soufflé with success? It seems similar, but dream concealer was so amazing, it would be hard for anything else to come close 😉

  • Jordann

Hey, I have never been into makeup much, just loose mineral foundation, but next month I have 3 weddings and an engagement party to go to so am needing some good makeup. I got some foundation but am looking for a concealer. I have red marks around my nose and was wondering if this would be good for covering them up?
