Maybelline Baby Lips Electro Lip Balm Review & Swatches

Maybelline Electro Baby Lips Lip Balm

Maybelline has introduced a line of Baby Lips Electro Lip Balms in several new neon shades. Baby Lips Electro Lip Balms are just a little more daring than the normal range of colors and kinda a fun addition for Summer. I mean seriously, I can get on board with rocking neon 80’s shades of lips balms.

Fierce n Tangy and Sheer Minty

I’ll be the first one to admit Maybelline Baby Lips Lip Balm aren’t really my favorite lip balm product in the world. OMG don’t kill me. Sorry about that but they really aren’t. I mean I think they get a little too much hype and are a slightly overrated tinted lip balm…!

These have a balmy texture with a nicely hydrating feel but I prefer something a little slicker to be honest. I just feel they are a tad too heavy for me at times. When worn at night, in my bed, I’m cool with this type of balm. But during the day for quickie touch ups, etc…Mmmm I’d like something a little lighter.

According to studies these produce smoother, less dry, better looking lips…for me I feel like they are moisturizing with a nice tint of color but nothing too incredibly dramatic with the formula here. It’s a balm, there’s not a lot to say about lip balm sometimes…!

On the upside the Electro Collection has some really nice tinted shades that are considerably more tinted than the originals. One thing I noticed was these didn’t contain an SPF as the original does so that’s something to take note of.

There are six shades to choose from five of which I swatched in this post. Two shades, Fierce n Tangy (neon yellow) and Minty Sheer (neon lime green) apply sheer without any real color where as the other three I tried do lend a very nice neon tint to lips. The colors are vibrant, fun, and wearable. I know they seem quite loud and outrageous but they apply rather naturally!

Strike a Rose

Each balm has a different flavor as well. Nothing plastic or artificial here, the subtle flavors seemed quite on target and pleasant to my taste buds.

Fierce n Tangy has a lemony citrus candy flavor, Minty Sheer (obviously) taste like a mint, Oh! Orange is a tasty sweet orange, Berry Bomb is a grape berryish flavor, and Strike a Rose has a sweet rosy candy flavor.

I’m unsure if these are permanent or limited edition. The displays do not say anything about the line being LE but I suspect they might be? Don’t quote me there.

Overall, Maybelline Electric Baby Lips have the opportunity to be a boring repetitive release but actually turned into a rather fun purchase for me. I think they make a nice budget pick up when you need a quickie beauty fix and don’t want to spend a ton of cash. They have considerably better pay off than the original formula and the colors are vibrant and super funky for Summer wear!

I gotta say Maybelline did a fab job with these and kept my interest here. Even though the original formula failed to please me I felt like Electric improved on this and made the product into something more interesting!

My suggestion?

Pick a shade or two up! These are just full of beauty fun!

Available now at drugstores or also Target.com shortly.

Tried ’em?

Love to hear your thoughts!

I’m going to pass on these. I still have two from the original collection that I need to finish off – they’re not my favorites either!

  • Cj

Never tried babyliss either. But I’ll pick up the orange if I see it

  • Robin

My 13 year old loves the original colorless babylips but has zero interest in any of these. I think I’ll stick with fresh …..i have tons of the little ones to use. Thank you Sephora for letting hubby sign up to get the free birthday gifts 😉

    • Isobelle

I am only 10 and a use baby lips it helped my lips sooooo much and i now have the entire collection.

  • Stacie

Ugh. Baby Lips. I can’t bring myself to buy them. They look like something an 8 year old would use. I just can’t do it.

  • Jen_m_sunshine

Right there with ya on the baby lips. I bought two shades and only use them as a last resort which doesn’t happen too often given the amount of lip products I have stashed everywhere! On a side note – you look smoking HOT with the purple eyes!!! I have never seen my muse sport this look before in my far from perfect memory! Please share what eye shadow you have on as well as the liner on waterline!! Meow baby!

    • the Muse

aw thanks jen I hate it ;-D makes me look tired hehe. It’s one of the new maybelline pigment tattoos ;-D oh I do a lot of purple…! did you see the Lavish Lavender look? Thanks chica 😀 waterline is just some tarte black eyeliner ;D

      • Jen_m_sunshine

I think it looks great on you! I did get the lavish lavender tattoo but honestly haven’t even opened it yet as was so disappointed with the others my urge to play was killed! I kept it though after seeing your review for future exploration. On a side note but Maybelline related I saw your response about the tarte coral crush – didn’t get it as sold it but am kind of glad as I really don’t need more park avenue princess or highlighter! I DID get the new sultry sunset Tarte palette and it’s set up the like Call of the wild one you liked – but shades more pink /purple so may not be your cup of tea. Also did get the BE ready 8.0 in power neutrals with the 5 easy payments I couldn’t resist :-)!!!

        • the Muse

thanks girl! 😀 you should try it, LL isn’t nearly as bad as the others promise! sorry for the really delayed reply with that been so crazy swamped lately 😀 I was debating on that one tbh…you know me well lol as the shades weren’t appealing 😀 I skipped the 8.0 too! I was this close to ordering and shut myself down quick 😀

  • Kristin

Do all of the original Babylips have SPF? I was under the impression that only the two clear ones did.
Also, your eyes look gorgeous in those pictures!!

  • Christina

Did you say Maybelline Color Tattoo Pigments, as in the loose powder ones? As much as I love the “regular” cream Color Tattoos, I was going to pass on the pgiments since I hate loose powder shadows. But I have to say it looks absolutely fab on you, dahling. Just might have to reconsider once they show up in stores.

    • the Muse

i did indeed 😀 aw thanks chica I’m not so sure my eyes look all kinds of tired but that could be lack of sleep hahah ;-D I’ll be reviewing swatching shortly for ya!

  • Margaret

I wish you showed us all the swatches of the colors on your lips I was curious to see what the yellow and the green would look like.

    • the Muse

they pretty much look transparent Margaret so didn’t bother photographing as you’ll only seen the pink of my natural lip color.

  • Keri

Thanks soo much for the review!!

I love the scents on Baby Lips (I have Cherry Me and Peach). The Orange one looks like its worth trying out. Hope they come to Canada soon!

  • Celine

Am I the only one who finds it odd the fact that for a Summer collection, these don’t have spf? Weird concept…

  • DJ

I fully agree with you Muse, about the overrated hype of these lip balms. I was just never interested in them. I have to admit though I am loving the hue on strike a rose. It’s a pretty shade. I might have to pick that one up just for hot summer days, when I can’t stand to wear lipstick or gloss. BTW: you look grand in purple eye shadow! 😉

    • the Muse

aw thanks dj you’re too kind 🙂 <3! I'd get it, they aren't the best balm in the world totes with you there but these new shades are lovely :D!

  • Ester

The only one I am remotely interested in is the purple one, but hate grape flavored things! Oh well, pass from me.

  • Sayre

I forgot what the post was about once I was hypnotized by the gorgeous purple eyeshadow. That truly looks stunning!

  • Sara

I happen to like the Baby Lips and Strike A Rose is definitely on my radar!

  • Chrisbeeblack Beauty

Hey Muse 🙂 Just thought I would mention you posted the Sheer Minty picture twice =)

  • Mckell

I went to Walmart today to look for the neon Baby Lips and they werent there. Any other places they would be?

  • Alyssa

They also have Pink Shock from this collection. Kinda curious why you didn’t mention it..

  • Dani

At first I wasn’t too fond of the Baby Lips but I’ve grown to love them. You have to really give them a chance and since they cost roughly $3 where I live I don’t mind picking one up to test each time I stop by the store. I prefer the sheerness because it makes them easier to apply without the color settling into my lip lines. To each their own I guess.

  • Anshulika

Very nice post. Loved the neons: sheer mint and orange but bit skeptical of using such bold colors. Any idea how to make out whether a particular shade would suit you or not?

  • amanda

halo~do you think there’s a difference between soothing sorbet and strike a rose? It’s hard to choose from these two shades!
