Benefit Rockateur Sneak Peek

Benefit Rockateur ($28) is an exciting release for Fall 2013 and the next in a full range of box of powder blushes from Benefit. Benefit Rockateur is the 7th blush released from the brand and I can’t help but ask the older beauty junkies, remember when it was only Hoola?

Hopefully at some point Benefit releases an Ultra Plush Gloss to pair up with the blush, don’t lie, I know you were thinking this too!

How’d I feel about Rockateur?

I’m ok with it but I think other shades in the range made a bigger impact on me. I had the same sort of uneventful feeling with Sugarbomb as well so take this review with a grain of salt.

This is supposed to be a soft rose gold but…in the box it kinda has a dusky rose brown going on. At first it kinda had me at a lighter shade of Dallas almost. It has a fine sparkly shimmer but this is an over spray only and quickly swipes away. The mix of shades is fairly warm here so you get a bit dusky rose, a little pink, heavy beige, hints of brown, and even a little bit peach or coral. The lack of shimmer means it doesn’t really have the glow I thought it would.

Benefit Rockateur Swatches

It’s beautifully silky with a baked formula that blends easily onto cheeks. The color runs a bit sheerer but it builds very easily for more pop and seems like a formula that can’t easily be overdone no matter how much you apply.

For me personally I was disappointed it shows up kinda peachy on my skin town with a certain brownish duskiness to it. It kinda made me feel like it had a little bit of a muddy finish the likes a bronzer would give me. I didn’t get the glow I was hoping for. I expected more of a rosy glow kinda comparable to Sleek Makeup’s Rose Gold. This has more warmth and feels like a shade suitable for more tanned skin than my own medium fair coloring.

Overall, Benefit Rockateur wasn’t quite what I loved in a shade so I did feel a bit disappointed…boo….but Benefit excels at creating these incredible blushers so I know they’ll release something next season that I’m sure to love. I suspect they have some sort of liquid cheek awesomeness on the horizon for Spring if their track record is anything to go by. I look forward to seeing what comes next.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on it!

Wow. I am old. I definitely remember when it was just Hoola. My first benefit purchase, too.

I actually wasn’t interested in this blush at all, but now that I’ve seen the swatch I’m much more into it! I love those types of colors in a blush. And seriously, who am I kidding, Sugarbomb is the only blush of theirs I don’t own so I’ll prob end up picking both of them up just to have a complete collection. 🙂

  • Lisa

I remember Benefit when it was a little company called “The Face Place” in San Francisco! I know I’m aging myself.

  • K.B.

So pretty! I’ll have to swatch this in store to make sure it’s not too shimmery.

Oh, High Priestess of Makeup, have you heard any rumblings about Boscia bringing back the peppermint oil-blotting sheets for the holidays this year? I foolishly only bought 3 (it was pink! and peppermint! and it made my purse smell so nice) and I’m dying for Boscia to bring them back (so I can buy 10). I know I should save money and buy, like, the Target or CVS brand, but they’re pink! and peppermint! and they made my purse smell so nice. lol

    • the Muse

lol high priestess? thanks LOL I’m flattered ;-D I haven’t but hopefully they do! Loves ’em! I purchased two and ran through them within three months OH the sadness!!!!!!

  • Olivia

I prefer matte blushes, but this is a pretty shade! I bet it would suit lots of ladies!

    • the Muse

aw thanks shelia…god I WISH I could remember..mmmm if it comes to me will post back ;D

  • Joy

But but but… it looks pretty on you! I know what you mean though, about colors getting muddy on application. That’s an issue for me too, which is why I’m blush-challenged and I still don’t have a blush I really like. I have golden/peach undertones and it seems that blushes with warm tones get orangey and muddy on me. And yet! And yet I’m too scared to try a cool toned blush. Sigh. First world problems!

    • the Muse

thanks joy 😀 just not really my shade for some reason….feels a bit too warm….and yeah kinda orange-y….!

  • Eileen

The thing that bothers me with this is that it’s 5.0g. Their other blushes are all 8.0g to 12.0g and $28 on Sephora, and this just really feels like a ripoff to me, especially since it’s in the same sized box and you’d assume it was as big.

    • Christi

I just bought this during a Sephora haul & I’m loving it! I also got Guerlain’s bb cream. Have u ride that one? I am liking it pretty well so far, but I’ve only worn it a few times.

  • Kaitlyn

I think it looks pretty on you! That said, I do like that kind of shade on occasion and I don’t love very shimmery blushes (simply because I have uneven texture on my cheeks). To each their own. I may check it out, but I think there are other blushes in that price range that I would like more. 🙂

  • Alison

I wasn’t blown away either, however I did think it was pretty. Really hate that there is less product, but I am highly irritated that the pan is plastic. I depot my blushes and all of the boxed powders have easily gone into my Z Pallets with no issue. Except for this one. It was easily fixed with a magnet, but it made me feel like I was being screwed out of product AND quality packaging. That is all.

  • Tessie

Bummer. I was really looking forward to a nice rose-gold blusher. I can barely see it on you, and since I’m a tad darker than you it probably wouldn’t even show up on me 🙁 Do you know of any other rose-gold blushers? Drug store and high end?

  • maria

I totally disagree with you Muse,I know you like the cool side but I really…really love how this warmer shade looks on your skin and it gives way to a beautiful young lady the cooler tones although pretty gives you this lollipop princess look(becoming to). Your eyes and lips always steal the show though.

  • Debbie

Hi Muse! I’m sorry you were disappointed in this blush, but I personally think it still looks nice on you! It looks like a blush to use on those days when you are home and just need a little color, but not too much. You know,,,if you’re expecting the UPS man & you don’t want to present your ‘ghostly’ pasty-looking face,,,,if you know what I mean. lol! I’ve been there sister! ;D

    • the Muse

thanks debbie you’re lovely to say so 😀 lol true! perfect meet the postman look ;D

  • Sara

I think it’s such a beautiful color! I wish I could afford it. If you don’t want it, you should send it my way ;D

  • Tanz

Need this! I love Benefit blushes.

Also, there’s more than seven?! Offhand I can think of Hoola, Dallas, Coralista, Hervana, Sugarbomb, Dandelion, Throbb, 10, and Bella Bamba. I may be missing one or two?

  • Dania

I was wondering if this would look good on a medium sort of skin tone? Think Vanessa Hudgens skin tone, mine is very similar. I have combination skin, dry forehead and nose, normal cheeks/chin. Do you think any of the other Benefit blushes would fit me better? I want to buy my first Benefit blush but have no idea what would look best. Help!

  • Abryda

I totally agree with you on this one Muse, once the gold overspray is gone it’s just a regular dusty rose like you describe. We have seen it many of times, I was not impressed although the texture was pretty soft & that’s it.

    • the Muse

mmm same impressions abryda…lovely texture but not exactly how I pictured it would be.

  • Cindy Ramirez

The color and lack of shimmer is good for me! But I feel like they marketed this wrong, this is deff not a rose gold.

We finally got this at work, and I was super excited to play with it. There’s this SUPER snotty guy that works in the same department as me. So when I finally got my hands on this I asked “Oh man, is the shimmer an over spray or does it go throughout?” and he says with an attitude “Uhhh throughout.” I’m just happy he was wrong because he thinks he’s right all the time. >:D

  • Shannon

I miss Georgia Peach! It was the best boxed blush and I simply can’t find anything comparable to the shade.

  • Danielle

I was just playing with testers at Ulta when I came upon this blush, and absolutely had to have it. Different blushes work for different complexions, and Rockateur seems like it was custom made for mine. (Fair skin, light golden blonde). Love the silky texture and consistency, but not so crazy about it being so heavily fragranced. The color is so perfect for me though, I don’t think I”ll ever wear anything else.

However I also was able to pick up Benefit’s Winter 2014 catalog early while I was there, and in November, Benefit is offering a kit which will contain all 7 of their powdered blushes — hoopla, dandelion, CORAlista, Bella Bamba, rockateur, sugar bomb, and watt’s up — all together in one kit for $36.
