soft smooth hydrated lips

Summer’s here so maybe I don’t have to worry so much about my drier lips! I know I have issues with chapped lips in the Winter and typically they are flaky, red, and just yak! When Summer comes I’m less likely to see chapped lips but my lips do tend to get a bit drier!

So getting soft, smooth, hydrated lips is one of my missions in this life.

Here are some product recommendations for those that have the same dry, flaky lip issues I do!

Nivea Lip Butter (Review)
Nivea Lip Butter is such a hit or miss product in the beauty world but for me, well for me it’s all hit! Available in a several flavors this tasty lip butter is thick and dense but melts down into a hydrating oil on lips and keeps them soft, smooth, and hydrated! Granted the tin packaging and applying with your finger stinks but I wouldn’t this little inexpensive butter up for the world!

Nivea Lip Butter

Smith’s Rosebud Salve
Truly Smith’s awesome lip balms are the solution to life, the universe, and everything. This is a petroleum based lip balm that contains some essential oils thrown in but fact is, it just feels smoother and creamier than your average everyday petroleum product! Plus it not only acts to soften lips but you can use it as a brow wax, you can throw it on rough elbows and knees, or dab some on a zit, or even ease frizz with it! Truly it multitasks like a champ!

Rosebud Salve 2
Too Faced Lip Insurance (Review & Swatches)
Problems with your lipstick sticking around? I love me some Lip Insurance! Smooth this quick fix primer on your lips and it’ll fill in your natural lip lines while creating a smooth finish for your lipstick and gloss to adhere too and it’ll extend the wear of your lipstick or gloss too!

Too Faced Lip Insurance Lip Primer 2

Bliss Fabulips Foaming Lip Cleanser
(Review & Swatches)
This is ridiculously gimmicky but I swear I’ve convinced myself my lips feel softer after I use it. It’s basically a lip cleanser..eh?! Who needs to cleanse their lips!? It starts out as a soft gel which foams up once you apply it to lips. After you simply swipe it off! I dunno about the cleansing portion of the product but my lips always feel rather soft after I use it or I imagining it…!

Bliss Fabulips Treatment Kit 008
Vaseline Lip Therapy Rosy Lips (Review and Swatches)
This one is cheap as chips and yes, essential it is petroleum but it softens my lips and gives them a rather pretty hint of rose! Do like!

Hourglass N 28 Lip Treatment Oil (Review and Swatches)
They say to save the best for last and that’s what Hourglass No 28 Lip Treatment Oil is! The Pièce de résistance! If you love Hourglass No 28 Primer Serum you are BOUND to love the Lip Treatment Oil formula! It’s expensive but worth every single penny. This smooth serum hydrate lips and keeps them moist and supple while treating them to a super blend of essential oils! This one is a keeper and a must have for all dry lip girls and guys!

Hourglass Cosmetics No 28 Lip Treatment Oil

I’m sure I missed many favs of my own but I know all of these products are ones I use daily and love for getting my lips soft, smooth, and hydrated!

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. Seriously, one of my very favorite and bestest products is cocoa butter vaseline. LURVES it to peices!! And it’s funny, Smith’s salve does ezactly squat for me.. I think it actually dries my lips, as did Jack Black. Just goes to show ya – most all skin care is YMMV! 🙂 I keep thinking I should try that Hourglass stuff, but I recoil everytime I see the price tag, and think how much Cocoa butter vaseline I could buy with $42! 😀

I’ve been using smith’s rosebud salve for years and i love it. as you said it’s the solution to everything! I have multiple tins for around the house, purses, work desk and the tube versions because I will never be without! And it’s really a big bang for your buck. Even if you use it multiple times daily and tin last me close to two years! Loves it.

    • Isabella Muse

ditto lacy! they are literally all over my house haha!

I am a lip balm / treatment junkie. There are several I like but I love CO Bigelow’s My Favorite Night Balm sold at BBW. I put it on before bed and when I wake up it’s still on and my lips are soft and hydrated and the benefits last all day long. I wait until they run a Buy 2 Get 1 Free deal and stock up.

    • Isabella Muse

CO Bigelow def makes some GREAT lip balms and glosses 😀

Hourglass lip treatment – God I love that stuff. its a bit pricey but so worth it. and I love the gold applicator.
I’ve been hearing/reading some rave reviews about Lanolips; I went ahead and bought 2 from Australia (that country holds a special place in my heart as I spent 6 months there in college) as I couldn’t find them anywhere in the states. We’ll see if it makes it! have you heard of it, Muse?

    • Isabella Muse

couldn’t agree more! Good pick up! They are very nice! Did you get the regular ointment or the colored one? Both are fab 😀

One of my favorites, especially in the winter, is Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula Lip Butter in Dark Chocolate & Peppermint. It works! And the smell is a bonus. It’s in a tube, and that’s the only thing I don’t like about it.

    • Isabella Muse

I didn’t even KNOW that Palmer had a lip Butter! Checking it out immediately 😀

  • Mel

Muse, I must tell you that I suffered from “white gunk” on my inner bottom lip for what feels like my entire life. I finally browsed Sephora and found Fresh Sugar Lip Scrub. As you say… who needs to clean their lips?

    THIS STUFF IS INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can now wear ANY lip color in ANY formula and NEVER get that gross white lip funk from skin pieces or God knows what it was… it tastes delicious and makes your lips unbelievably soft. If you like the cleanser you use I would seriously recommend it. It’s a bit pricey and the container is small but a bit goes a long way.

    *seriously*.

I’m so obsessed with that Hourglass oil ever since you recc’d it! HSN has these sales every couple of weeks where new customers get $20 off a $40 or more purchase….I use a different email every time to be a “new” customer and yes I feel a bit guilty….but getting my lip oil for $21 is worth it! Plus they have a value pack with the lip oil and the oil primer!

    • Isabella Muse

hell that’s AWESOME ;-D don’t feel guilty haha!

  • Hez

I got Burt’s bees tinted lip balm to just have around the house. I realized it drys out and I have to re apply a lot. I hate it when I don’t like something I buy as I try to research into it but it just isn’t working for me!

  • Monica

Love all of the Nivea lip products, especially Kiss of Moisture. Aquaphor is my life!! I keep one tube in my handbag, one next to my bed & one in the bathroom cupboard. It does multiple things like Rosebud Salve, which I’ve never liked. Just bought my 1st Lush balm in Lip Service and I’m digging it. I make my own sugar scrub with brown sugar, honey & olive oil.

  • Monica

Need the Two Faced ASAP! This is the 2nd time I’ve seen it mentioned today. It’s a sign I need it in my life!

  • Jen

Thanks for the roundup. I will add Aveda Lip Saver…more moisturizing than Vaseline, same staying power.

    • Isabella Muse

never tried aveda lip save will have to look into that 🙂

  • Cindy

Dry lips? I have no idea what you are talking about. At night I use Philosophy’s Kiss me. Although I hate putting my fingers in a jar, it’s worth it. At daytime I use some local brand. They have lipbalm with L-Lysine and it made sure my lippes didn’t chap. If it keeps my lips smooth during winter time (I mean like real winters, with lots and lots of snow) it’s a winner.

I use a lot of natural products for my skin although I am not one to go totally “all natural.” Any product going on my lips does need to be without man made chemicals though.
There are several good all natural lip products on the market right now.
