Take a look!

Tarte Bon Voyage Collector's Set & Travel Bag

Tarte Bon Voyage Collector's Set & Travel Bag Contents

The Tarte Bon Voyage Collector’s Set & Travel Bag is the same price as last year’s Tarte of Giving Collectors Set & Travel Bag and does contain fewer items. Last year you got 20 shadows, 8 mini lipglosses, a deluxe Maracuja Oil, deluxe Maracuja Eye Cream, Amazonian Clay Blush, Cheek Stain, and a Deluxe Lights, Camera, Lashes Mascara.

This year you get 20 Eyeshadows, Deluxe Lights Camera Lashes Mascara, Cheek Stain, Full Size Lipsurgence Gloss and Lip Tint, Deluxe Maracuja Oil, and Deluxe Smooth Operator Finishing Powder. Last year you didn’t get the Finishing Powder so you can count this as a replacement for the eye cream. And you aren’t getting eight mini lipglosses however, you are getting one full size Lip Tint Pencil and one Full Size Lipgloss so for me this counts for those eight glosses you’re missing out on. I know some folks expressed that it felt like less but to me it feels like it evened itself out. Although I do wish this year’s set also included a powder blush! That I did miss!

This year you get flat purple and gold train case that houses everything. It has a pocket you can keep brushes in or a compact/palette etc…with a deep well for storing essentials. Last year’s roll out travel bag was purple in color sans design. The nice thing about last year’s bag is it’ll travel well with this year’s since it’s a solid color and doesn’t have a design so you can play match up and travel with both bags without fear of them clashing. The bag is very, very nice and very much apart of what makes the collection so pretty.

The palette is the showcase of the collection featuring 20 full size Amazonian Clay Eyeshadows. I find there are two groups of makeup lovers out there that consist of those that love Tarte’s shadow formula and those that don’t. I happen to like them a lot. They aren’t Urban Decay, they aren’t MAC, they are however, beautifully textured for my drier eyes! I find their eyeshadow formula is soft, buttery, and quite velvety. This palette contains a mix of both matte, metallic, and shimmer shades. All the shades were nicely pigmented without any chunky glitter or shimmer. I’m actually a very big fan of Tarte’s matte shadows because they are quite soft and silky however, some of the darker mattes were a bit patchy during application and worked better as an eyeliner versus an all over shadow due to the rich pigment and the patchiness during application. The shades have a mix of cooler and warmer shades but there are more warmer colors versus cooler ones. I find myself wishing they included more neutrals as some of the darker colors which make up a third of the palette didn’t do my drier, finely lined eyes any favors when used as an all over color!

I admit I was tickled they included a new Limited Edition Cheek Stain in a shade entitled Muse. The color is a soft mauve-y nude that adds more highlight to my cheek bones than color. It’ll really depend on your skin tone how this works out for you. Warmer complexion may find it adds a glow sans much color where as cooler complexions will find it gives their cheeks a soft, focused peachy glow. It has a light lemon-y fragrance with a soft, gel texture that blends easily with a wear of around three hours on my face (I typically can’t get longer wear with Tarte’s Cheek Stain formula on my drier skin).

Tarte Muse Cheek Stain

The Lipsurgence Lipgloss in Visionary is my new favorite shade! This is a beautiful peach nude. It is sheerer but it nudes my lips out enough to give a very natural look. Likey! The texture has a slightly tacky finish but lightweight with a wear of around four hours. It has a nice shiny finish with just the hint of color! To accompany the gloss they include a pretty apricot shade of Lipsurgence Lip Tint entitled Romantic. This is has a fully opaque finish with a sweet peppermint taste and a high sheen finish. Tarte Lipsurgence Lip Tint Pencils are my very favorite lip pencils so I’m happy to get a new shade to try out in this set!

The other goodies you get a deluxe size of Lights, Camera, Lashes Mascara which by the very way has a new plastic tube. I wonder if the full size will start embracing this new packaging? Typically it comes in a fabric-like wrapped barrel but now the entire barrel is plastic. Very handy as I find the fabric gets a little messy when handled often. I love this formula as it gives me super length, great volume, and it removes easily. You also get Maracuja Oil which is a fabulous overnight facial oil (it’s a bit too rich for me to use in the day) that adds plenty of hydration to skin as well as under eyes (I prep with it prior to concealer) and of course a transparent Amazonian Smooth Operator Clay Finishing Powder to set with. This is a transparent, silky finish powder that blends easily and doesn’t adhere to drier areas for a very smooth finish.

Tarte Bon Voyage Collector's Set contents

I was happy with the Tarte Bon Voyage Collector’s Set & Travel Bag overall. If I had to change anything about the set I’d want them to include a powder blush and perhaps lighten up on some of the darker mattes as I did find those unwearable. Aside from this I was quite pleased with everything else! It’s a value and it’ll make a very, very beautiful gift for any makeup lover!

I so wanted to love this set but the eyeshadows are definitely a deal breaker. Too many dark and warm shades for me 🙁 I love the look of No champagne no gain on you Muse but there’s not enough shadows that would work for me to justify the whole set. Thanks for the review!

    • Isabella Muse

that was my issue. I wanted more warm shades though! but not as many dark! aw thanks! You might like the Ulta one a bit better!

  • Kristie

Wow!! Amazing photos! I am convinced that this is the Tarte set that I want now! Thank you for this review!

  • Daniela

Thanks for the review! I’m going to pass. I’m just not that interested in the eyeshadow colors. I just got the other limited edition eye palette by them that looks similar except purple & pink palette & different shades. I’m not impressed by it. The shadows are chalky & don’t blend very well.

  • Tami

Thank you for doing this – I just nabbed it haha. I am sucker for Tarte. I’m one of the bigger fans. You nailed it when you said they probably appeal to an audiences with dry skin – that is me. Urban decay is wonderful but their shimmer looks terrible on my skin. It makes it look more crepey – never a look I’m going for. Tarte has that great balance of high end color yet not being overpowering. Great staying power with a primer and yes, a smooth feel. I can work with them. I am only miffed that there’s not more of a color range – as usual. More purples, etc, sigh. I have so many of their palettes and would love to see them put out a more vibrant one. But I bought it anyway! At least blue is in there and a few new shades as well as a fair amount of mattes. Thanks again and Tarte should thank you too, as I went to Sephora and purchased after getting a good look 🙂

    • Isabella Muse

I used to love UD tami but it’s a BIT too much for me lately. I appreciate the lighter texture of tarte’s shadows in a major way 😀 I’m so happy you grabbed it and I hope you enjoy it! update me after you tried I’d love to hear your thoughts!

      • Tami

I do like this palette..I will say it had too many dark shades overall but not to a point of overwhelming for me… What is to love are all of the great mattes….They have a nice cluster of light mattes that I find desirable. This was the year of neutrals for tarte and I stocked up. I love tarte and I wear neutrals the most so I’ll have enough for the next year! I will hope for other colors by next year though. I do color when I go out but for everyday looks, Tarte is my “go to”…I got the ulta one as well and the shadows are different from this set. I am not sure which I like more to be honest. I love the mattes in this palette (I feel it’s very worth it) yet I like ultas version too. *shrug* – I really love their blushes so I got all of the blush sets available. I actually like their blushes better than Nars. Thanks for your write ups and showings, I love looking at them before I decide just in case I miss something.

        • Isabella Muse

aw you’re very welcome tami and thanks for sharing your mini review! was nice to read your thoughts on the set 🙂 did you get the QVC set? the blushes were lovely!

  • Marce

Awww I really wanted to love this, but I’m not a fan of the shadow selection. Some colours are right up my alley but around half, not so much… Thanks for the swatches and review!

  • Christina D.

I wouldn’t mind grabbing that palette although I have mixed feelings about Tarte’s eyeshadows — some I really like but most I do not. Do you know if it will be sold separately, perhaps at QVC? I really don’t want the other items.

  • Christina D.

Thanks, Sis. I’ll keep it in the back of mind and periodically check QVC since I was able to score just the palette from those box sets with the box.

I have to say that I have drier skin, too, but it’s been my experience with Tarte that the palettes made in the U.S.A. are of a higher quality than the ones made in China, and really nothing to do with my skin type. But you know how I feel about cosmetics made in China…

    • Isabella Muse

ya never know especially when the holidays draw closer and tarte released their qvc sets 🙂 no I agree! This palette was made in china and you can see a bit of a difference in the lighter, silkier formula compared to ones made in the USA. The mattes here are a little patchy, dunno if I blame the formula or just because they are super pigmented could be either or!

  • Christina D.

You have definitely saved me money on this one! Since this palette is made in China, I’m definitely passing. Those two palettes I purchased from QVC were made in China (I didn’t know until I received them), and neither was very good. On the other hand, the Tarte LE Rainforest Eye & Cheek palette (the one with the snake with the jewel eye on the lid) was made in the USA and it is very nice. Thanks, Sister Muse!

    • Isabella Muse

there’s been a lot of that with brands including the balm, Urban Decay, Too Faced/etc seems to be common around the Holidays most. my pleasure! and sorry! I know how you feel about makeup made in China. It doesn’t bother me much but I understand 🙂

  • Sarah

Thanks for the review! I have always wanted to try Tartes eyeshadows, like others have said I would like more variation. Are you going to review the Palette from Ulta? That one looks like it has more variation.

  • Monica

I was verrry disappointed when I looked at the back of my holiday palette from last year and saw it was made in China. However, I love it & I think I’m going to love this one even more because of all the dark shades.

  • Marilynn

Love, love, love this set. I’m disappointed that there is no powder blush this year. I missed last years set. My sweet boyfriend went to buy me a Christmas gift and he picked up the Too Faced palette (which I love and actually used today), but he thought he was getting Tarte. He tried and I still received a beautiful gift. However, I’ll be picking up this beauty myself this year.

  • Margaret

Muse, I am a Tarte eyeshadow lover like you, but I do NOT like the looks of some of those dark matte shadows! A couple of weeks ago I purchased thetarte Limited Edition Amazonian Clay Eyeshadow Palette V1 that Tarte retweeted from someone’s blog. I got it from Sephora. I LOVE it! The shadows are all warm fall-type colors, with golds and browns and coppers and peaches and two warm purples. Many are sparkly but there are also a few mattes in the set of 16 colors. Wish you had been able to get this!

    • Isabella Muse

hi Margaret yup I mentioned the same issue in the review of this 🙂 I already have the Amazonian Clay Palette V1, it’s gorgeous I agree totally!

    • Tami

I got that one too..I’m surprised it was pitched as a “spring” palette. hmmm. Not sure I agree – looks so fall like. But I agree it’s a beautiful palette even though it has more shimmers vs mattes. I got it at Sephora and right before they ran out.

  • Andy

Hi, when you do eye shadow swatches, can you do them in order next time from left to right? It’s a little confusing to see eye shadow swatches out of order and I don’t know which swatch belongs to which eye shadow.

I have to say I really like the colors in this palette. Especially the taupes 🙂

    • Isabella Muse

the swatches are labeled why is it confusing which belongs to which when they are labeled?! hope this helps!?

  • Deborah

I am always a sucker for a set with a cute travel bag! As tempting as it is I got last years Gorgeous Getaways and recently the Rainforest After Dark palette and between those I see a lot of similar shades but I do love Tarte!
Speaking of Gorgeous Getaways, Muse your necklace reminds me of the Tarte bow! I absolutely love it! It’s so beautiful!

    • Isabella Muse

oh thank you Deborah 🙂 you’re right it does look like the Tarte one! I am too! I have so many makeup bags but grrr I’m always drawn in when there’s a bag involved 🙂

  • Bridget

Hi muse i have been going to your site for years but never commented, wanted to ask if you had seen any tarte qvc holiday eyeshadow because i don’t like the colors in bon voyage or away oui go P.S. your my favorite beauty blogger!

    • Isabella Muse

aw thanks Bridget, flattered! I have no info I can share right now sorry! 🙁

  • Ellie

Muse did you see there’s a Tarte holiday set on the QVC website now! Just have to find it with the code A264305. It has full size products and therefore a better value than the bon voyage set in my opinion. The blushes look really nice but it’s hard to tell what the eyeshadow colors are like. Debating if I need it!!!

    • Isabella Muse

i did, I saw it a few weeks ago but was happy it finally posted on site as being in stock 😀
