CeraVe Facial Moisturizing Lotion

CeraVe Facial Moisturizing Lotion ($12) is one of those beauty budget facial moisturizers that makes you shake your head in wonder. I’ll be honest, I splurge on skincare! Especially facial moisturizers and eye creams. Most facial moisturizers I’ve purchased at the drugstore are all about fragrance with very little in the way of good for you ingredients. But the same can be said of high end skincare too.

That’s why CeraVe Facial Moisturizing Lotion comes as a pleasant little surprise.

CeraVe Facial Moisturizing Lotion actually comes in a PM and AM version. The AM version contains an SPF 30 and the PM version which can be used on normal to dry skin is a highly hydrating formula that contains ceramides, niacinamide, and hyaluronic acid. There’s a pretty impressive amount of hydrating factors in this $12 bucks facial cream.

This is a gel-like texture that’s fragrance free that absorbs instantly into skin and almost immediately hydrates on contact. Skin feels smoother and softer within a few seconds of applying it. It’s just an overall amazingly formulated moisturizer for dry skin. It contains a good deal of niacinamide which is a form of B3. Niacinamide can prove irritating for some but it is an exceppent way to increase the product of ceramides to protect and strengthen the outer layer of your skin!

If you have drier skin this is an excellent way to get your skin feeling soft and smooth again. On the plus size it contains a host of incredibly hydrating ingredients but on the downside it doesn’t contain a ton of antioxidants. Although formulated as a night cream I actually like it as a day cream especially now with the cold, harsh Winter weather playing havoc with my skin!

Honestly, as a winter skincare staple for daily AM use I think CeraVe Facial Moisturizing Lotion is perfect! I can save my expensive anti-aging skincare for night use and can easily use CeraVe Facial Moisturizing Lotion as a daily hydrating moisturizer as it doesn’t leave me shiny or greasy and manages to keep my skin smooth and very, very well hydrated.

I will have to check this out. My skin is so dry in the winter, and when it gets bad, ponds is the only thing that helps. But when it warms up, ponds is way too greasy.

  • Alicia

I love this product. I started to transition from using fragrant moisturizers and I saw another blogger mention this product. I have used this for two months and I love it. It helps my skin feel feel better and hasn’t caused any irritation.

  • fancie

Thank you for sharing this! I just ran out of my favorite moisturizer but don’t feel like repurchasing at the moment since it’s so pricey. But my skin is soo dry now that I need something asap. I usually go high end for skincare too but I trust your judgment so I’ll give this a try

    • Isabella Muse

me too fancie but I don’t mind cheapening up my daily creams! I like to splurge on the high end stuff in the evening! This is perfect for much needed hydration. You can beef it up too with an anti aging serum prior to application 😀

  • HeavnsGirl

I have sensitive, acne prone skin, AND rosacea. :oO THIS stuff is a life saver!! I’ve been using it for about 4 and a half years now, and it really soothes and improves my skin.

  • Chelsea

I have a love hate relationship with this product. It used to be my holy grail, but my skin has gotten so dry in the past few years, and this stuff doesn’t even touch it anymore.

  • Phyrra

I hate the AM version but I love this PM version 🙂 Great budget beauty buy!

    • HeavnsGirl

Me too! The AM makes my skin unhappy. Thought it was just me being weird.

  • Moja31

Absolutely adore this stuff. Been using it night and day for over a year, though now I use it just during the day. The AM version is good too, but my skin can be a bit funny about sunscreens, so I just use this as my morning moisturizer instead. Started using it when my skin had been really irritated by the Dennis Gross pads. I tried everything (budget & higher end) to no avail. and this stuff was a godsend, it repaired my skin and I’ve never looked back. I recommend it to everyone that is looking for a solid affordable moisturizer, or trying to establish a basic skincare routine.

If you like more of a face cream at night, the moisturizing cream (the one in the tub) is fabulous. It’s super cheap for a huge jar so I have money to spend on my beloved Peter Thomas Roth retinol serum.

I’ve been using this for two years and love it. I used to get eczema patches on my face before using this. Their eye cream is really great too if you have dry skin and is worth trying.

  • Mary

I love this stuff! Such a great value. Often Ulta or CVS have bogo too. I also like the eye cream

  • Katherine T.

I’ve been using this for at least 3-4 years now and love it. It has really high- end ingredients for only $12 (cheaper if on sale) and no fragrance. It’s great for daytime use under sunscreen. At night, it’s a little light for my older skin, but it’s perfect for layering with heavier creams. My skin’s improved a lot with this cream.

  • Kimkats

Ah the cerave pm is in my regular rotation of moisturizers! Great stuff -plus right now there’s a $2 printable coupon on cerave.com, and cvs has all cerave Bogo right now!

  • Angel

I can’t use this because of the dimethicone, but I do really like their eye cream. It’s very basic but it has niacinamide and some other good stuff in it. It hasn’t worked miracles, but I’ve yet to find an eye cream that does. Plus it’s inexpensive, no fragrance and absorbs really well.

    • HeavnsGirl

I had a reaction to the AM version (with the sunscreen in it). Maybe try the PM if it was the AM that gave you problems.

  • Kate

Have not tried this but jumping in to say their cleansers are good, I have been using the foaming one in the summer and just started using the other one (forget the exact name) in the colder months.
PS, on sale @ CVS this week with coupon in last sunday’s paper ☺

  • Lura

Love this! Use the am cream in mornings as does Hubby now (!). Only sunscreen/moisturizer he’s ever continued on with. He’s almost on his own ‘beauty empty’ with this one. 🙂

I’ve almost used up a tube of their eye cream. It was a Paula’s Choice ‘best of 2014’ pick. A Lura ‘best of 2014’ pick too! 🙂

  • Telly

I totally just discovered their hydrating cleanser and moisturizing cream. This winter I started to get eczema on my face and the moisturizing cream has helped cure it. I shall definitely try their face lotions once I run out of my olay products. =)

  • Dee

I use it and love it! Really dry here so this stuff is great. I’ve been using Paula’s Choice Anti-Oxidant Serum underneath – great combo.

  • Catalina Gregg

I love this moisturizer! I had tried the AM one for the day but found it making my face too greasy so now I use the PM one morning and night and absolutely love it!

  • Debra

I use the PM lotion and love it! I am lucky because my skin seems to tolerate low-end skincare better than high-end which breaks me out something fierce!

I also use Cerave Hydrating Cleanser in the a.m. (Purity at night with my Clarisonic).

Whenever and wherever possible, Keep it simple!!

  • Lindsay

I need to try this! I like the AM one, but I am annoyed that the SPF isn’t broad spectrum.

  • Kelly

I just bought my first bottle this weekend after my first-ever dermatologist visit to treat my acne and rosacea. It’s not as rich a night cream as I’m used to, but so far between the night time prescription cream for my rosacea and the CeraVe, my skin looks and feels better than it has for years. I’m a fan.

  • Abryda

i love the hydrating facial cleanser as well it works great in removing all your makeup leaving your nice & soft not tight & dry.

  • dp

Love CereVe. During driest winter months I will also use the jar moisturizer as a very nice cream cleanser! Massage in, remove with warm washcloth. It works for me! Follow with the PM moisturizer. It is the best value in the drug store when you compare the quality of ingredients/price.

  • Linda

I have been using the Cerave PM Moisturizer for two years. It’s not heavy nor greasy. The AM version is too pasty for me. I highly recommend the Hydrating Cleanser. It is great with the Clarisonic, and for me, a good alternative to the higher priced Purity Made Simple.

  • Siri

Hi Isabella. Thank you for info about CeraVe. I first heard about it from my friend, she and her baby have sensitive skin and her pediatrician recommended the cream. I’m looking forward to checking out the AM/PM lotion you reviewed. On a bargain hunting note, I did find the tub of CeraVe cream at my local Costco. 16oz tub for $11.99! Thought to share. Thank you again for the info!

    • Isabella Muse

thanks siri that’s super helpful as I spent $14.99 or a much smaller bottle at the drugstore. Will head to costco to get it instead now 🙂 thanks! I hope it works for you, keep me posted I’d love to hear if it’s good for you!

      • Siri

Oh no problem! Oh and it’s actually 12oz tub of CeraVe cream. Not 16oz, sorry for the typo! Hope your Costco has it as well. Yes, I will let you know how it goes. =) I did a mention on my blog about your review that links to this page. I hope that is ok, I am a novice blogger and don’t post as often, but I keep hearing about Cerave, so I had to write it down. =)

        • Isabella Muse

oh darn! I prefer the tube! I wonder if they have a larger pump version next trip to costco have to lookiee 😀 Aw thanks you didn’t have to do that but appreciate the link juice 🙂 That’s fine!!!!!!!!!! and thanks for the mention 🙂 welcome to the wild world of blogging hehe 😀

Just buy the Moisturizing Lotion (in the large bottle). The ingredients are exactly the same as the PM Facial Lotion, just minus niacinamide. You get more of your money’s worth.
