Tarte Clay Pot Waterproof Liner Review & Swatches
I’ve been on this pot eyeliner kick lately and one of my favorite ones to use is Tarte Clay Pot Waterproof Liner in brown! Psstt even though the formula is difficult to use I’m also kinda digging the looks I can create using Milani’s new Fierce Foil Eyeliners!
None the less for some reason I’m obsessed with pot eyeliners lately. I’ve been lining my eyes and smudging it all up with a Q-Tip and just loving the results. I have a good deal of makeup that I test so it’s hard to stick to using the same thing daily but Tarte Clay Pot Waterproof Liner has become my daily go to for making my brown eyes pop!
Take a look!
Tarte Clay Pot Waterproof Liner ($21) actually got repackaged earlier this year when the Tarte Spring 2015 Collection launched. I feel the formula changed as well but more about that later. The packaging is now a basic glass jar with a gold lid where as before the lid had a decorative floral print.
They actually haven’t confirmed the formula changing but for me it feels different. I have some of the older pot liners and they are slick, very creamy, and aren’t as easy to smudge out as the new formula. Call me nuts but there’s a little bit more density to the new formula! That doesn’t translate as dryness, don’t worry, but it does lack the glossiness of the original which makes it really great for applying and smudging to a soft, powdery finish. It applies without skipping with a creamy glide on my drier eyes. I think oily lids will like this formula a lot as it’s the perfect combination creamy yet slightly dense so it should apply well and wear well on oily skin. It does contain the Amazonian Clay Infused formula which is apparently great for reducing oil.

I really love how well this smudges. Once applied it gives you a nice amount of time to work with it so you can smudge, reapply if you like, and smudge some more without creating a mess. I use the lazy girl method and apply with a liner brush and smudge out with a Q-Tip as I did below. It kinda looks almost powdery once I smudge it out which is exactly how I like it to look as it adds an element of smokiness to my look.
The color wears long and strong for hours on me. No fading, no smearing, or flaking, just solid 12 hour wear that removes easily at the end of the night.
Tarte may have revamped their packaging but the formula feels a little different too, in a good way! If you’re looking for a solid performing gel pot eyeliner you should definitely give Tarte Clay Pot Waterproof Liner a chance (if you haven’t already that is!).
