Hard Candy Top Ten Trendsetter Palette

With mattes being a thing this season I thought I’d grab up the Hard Candy Top Ten Trendsetter Eyeshadow Palette ($6) in Birthday Suit on my last trip to the Evil Empire cough cough Walmart!

Because this one is all matte all the time.

Take a peek!

I have one of the original Top Ten Eyeshadow Palettes and I’m really not sure if there is any difference between that palette and the newer Trendsetter ones aside from packaging. As my palette doesn’t have the bit of leather overlay with the metallic spiky design! Mine came in a lace edged plastic compact and the newer Trendsetter Palettes have a the leather accents. The packaging is pretty lightweight and a little flimsy. The leather is on mine is already peeling up and off! Not a cool look (see pic below).

Hard Candy Top Ten Trendsetter Eyeshadow Palette in Birthday Suit includes 10 matte, neutral shades of eyeshadow. I don’t typically navigate towards matte eyeshadow for myself as I’m a shimmer lover but lately I like the softness of a matte eyeshadow and this palette was so cheap I decided to give it a whirl.

The color selection doesn’t have a lot of rhythm or reason as it’s a mismatch of shades but it also has a lot of universally friendly mattes that you’ll likely make a good deal of use out of. There’s creams here, navy, taupes, lilacs, etc…It sadly lacks a lot of browns! I think if they included more browns it would make for a far more interesting selection of shades and something you’d likely reach for daily. But I digress, there are some shades in here that I’d likely use quite often! Many of the creamy colors make excellent highbrow highlighters and it also contains one of my favorite mattes which is a brownish orange that works excellent on my skin tone (I’m wearing it sheered out on my eyes below along with one of the creams from this palette!).

These have soft, sheer color pay off but build easily enough. They are powdery (you can see in my pic below how they kick up a good deal of powder) but also have a level of soft, silkiness which blends easily onto my lids. No chalkiness or dryness here! This is a nice palette for those of us that are a bit scared of matte eyeshadows as these are very easy to use and wear. Even without primer I didn’t experience creasing or fading with these shades. They wore quite nicely. For some reason the palette kinda reminds me of the It Cosmetics Naturally Pretty Eyeshadow Palette.

At $6 bucks this is a nice budget pick up! It’s not going to blow up your beauty world but it does offer soft, easy to use mattes for daily eye looks. I imagine it’ll be something you might pick up quite often whether you’re using it alone or using some of the shades to accent another eye look!

“Urban Decay Top Ten Trendsetter Eyeshadow Palette in Birthday Suit”? Time for more caffeine!

You freaked me out for a moment…you wrote URBAN DECAY Top Ten Trendsetter Eyeshadow palette in one of the paragraphs above (under the photo of the peeling fake leather cover). I thought I missed some new UD palette for a sec, or you were comparing to some old one that I missed (not likely in any case). Phew!

I’ve almost bought this several times. Know I really want the nude palette (the too faced “dupe”)

I didn’t realize exactly how affordable this is though! $6? I might just get both lol

I had this palette and I must have gotten a bad palette. I couldn’t build mine up at all. I’m pretty pale and no matter how hard I tried the shadows didn’t show up at all or looked the same. It was the worst palette I’ve ever had. There’s no way I could have built mine up like your swatches show. I may buy another because I keep reading good reviews. It was so bad I’m almost positive I got a bad palette.

Have you tried sponge applicators? That’s the key! 🙂

I use brushes with mine. Just make sure the ones you’re applying with aren’t too fluffy. The sponge applicators work, too, like Muse said.

I have all the Top Ten palettes. I think they’re awesome for $6. Some are better than others, but they’re all pretty good. I haven’t had any issues with the leather (or lace) coming off.

I really like my Hard Candy TF dupe (the Sassy one) palette but this one just doesn’t get me going. Between my Paula’s Choice matte palette and just dropping $46 on the Kat Von D Shade and Light eye palette (which is so worth the money for me…”she tells herself repeatedly”) I feel like I’m pretty set for mattes. I do agree the orange-ish shade is stunning but it looks like a close dupe for one of the shades in the TF Chocolate Bar palette. But I do love all these high quality yet budget priced items Hard Candy is releasing lately. I just wish you could get them from somewhere other than the 9th circle of hell that is Walmart!
