L’Oreal Lucent Magique Cushion Lumiere Review & Swatches

L'Oreal Lucent Magique Cushion Lumiere7

L’Oreal Lucent Magique Cushion Lumiere is a new cushion foundation that launched in two shades recently within Japan and other parts of Asia. I think the cushion makeup trend has died off slightly in Asia and it’s a little cool here in the US too. But as we head into December, drugstores will likely start introducing their Spring 2016 Collection and with those collections I think either L’Oreal, Maybelline, or both will likely launched a cushion makeup of some sort. Heck, you might even seen it sooner than December!

Let’s take a look at L’Oreal Lucent Magique Cushion Lumiere!

L'Oreal Lucent Magique Cushion Lumiere8

L’Oreal Lucent Magique Cushion Lumiere is available in two shade selections of Nude Miracle and Nude Rose. I picked up the darker shade of the two which was Nude Miracle but it’s unfortunately a little too light for me so I need to mix it with a little bit of my regular concealer to keep it from looking chalky or pasty on my skin tone. Strangely enough the shade actually swatches and blends in beautifully and it looks like a match but in photos it appears very pasty. A lot of people get ranty about the color selection in Asian makeup but really, you have to keep in mind the brands are catering to Asian skin tones thus the lack of shade selections.

This comes in a really gorgeous packaging with a rose gold mirrored top with a simple L’Oreal logo on the top. Honestly, at $17 it looks like I paid way more for it as the presensation is truly lovely and even nicer than the Lancome Miracle Cushion Liquid Cushion Compact that I paid twice as much for. I will say the compact is chunky though and the top is a magnetic for fingerprints.

Inside you’ll find a generously sized mirror and a small puff which lays across the secondary lid that’s located in the compact to keep the cushion fresh. Lifting that second lid will reveal the cushion that’s soaked in the foundation. It has a wet squishy texture that bounces back to shape if you press into it. Essential the cushion is just that, a cushion that’s saturated with foundation. You can dip the sponge into the cushion to apply or use your finger tips or a fibre brush for application!

I think cushion aren’t necessarily a “tried one, tried them all” experience as I find the textures and finishes vary from cushion to cushion. L’Oreal’s formula is much more agreeable to me than say Etude House’s Precious Mineral Any Cushion which tends to set matte and clings to my drier areas.

L’Oreal’s formula is thin yet quite creamy and it blends flawlessly without adhering to my drier areas. It’s neither matte nor satin but somehow meets in the middle and provides a very soft, smooth surface on skin that looks flawless. I wish this color worked for me because I love how smooth and seamless it looks on my skin. Truly it creates a nice flawless finish for makeup. The wear time is around five hours with fading at around hour six in warmer weather not set with powder. It’s quite pigmented and should provide sheer to semi-medium coverage but is in no way a full on medium or full coverage foundation product.

I’m really into fluid foundations at the moment and sometimes it’s I forget how much I love a good cushion foundation! L’Oreal Lucent Magique Cushion Lumiere brightens skin up and gives it a truly flawless finish in a lightweight, easy to wear formulation. I just wish the color worked out for me! Sad sigh!

I tried a deluxe sample of the Laniege cushion foundation when Target first got it. It was really nice, but full sized is kind of expensive for the amount you get. I worry with only two shades available, this wouldn’t be light enough for me.

I think it’s about the same price. Laneige BB Cushion is $34 with a refill included, so technically, each cushion is $17, same price as the Lumi.

Okay, I’m seeing cushion make-up all over the place, but I’m not seeing an explanation for what the point is. What does have the make-up be saturated in a sponge cushion do for the make-Up?

Just makes things a bit more portable as creams and liquid foundations have never been very portable or easy to travel with. Plus the cushion thins the formula out and makes it easier to apply in some cases this is particularly great if you like a sheerer lay of coverage.

I love the thinner/sheerer formulas, but I can’t help but think these are just a breeding ground for bacteria… I had the Almay one *ages* ago, and eben bought a couple of backups, but after using one a few times, I just felt really gross using it, and tossed all of them…

Okay, that makes sense, thanks! I think I’ll steer clear of cushions, then – I need a little more coverage.

        • Isabella Muse

Don’t write them completely off 🙂 some have fairly good coverage but in most cases they do run sheerer 🙂

Didn’t Stila make something like this waayyy back when? Stila Sport, I think? White container, lid twisted off and then up *looks in old makeup collection cause I’m a hoarder*

  • LauraTheRedhead

What shade did you get in this? it looks like it would be perfect for me! 🙂

    • Isabella Muse

I actually mentioned in the review what shade I purchased! 🙂 hope this helps!

Man, I really hope that they bring this (or some version of it) to the U.S. with an expanded shade range. I never thought I would be into cushion makeup, but I tried a sample of one – I think it was Laneige – and loved it, but they didn’t have a shade light enough for my pasty self (nor do any of the other brands that make cushions, as far as I know), so I’m stuck using the Lancome version. I do like it, but it’s expensive and I go through it pretty fast.

I think you have a good chance of seeing that Sienna, very, very soon 🙂

So excited for this! You gotta be broke with all the makeup you buy!

I wish for cushions to get more popular and be produced in the Us or even better brought from Asia, as I am a big fan of their makeup. They have a bunch of different finishes though their ranges are very hard for me to buy since I’m tan lol.

I’m using Laniege bb cushion (anti aging) n loving it . Has anyone tried L’oreal true match (new n improved) foundation?

  • Shelly

This item is created by Korea and finally Loreal started to release cushion foundation
I highly recommend Amore or Dr Jart cushion foundation
You can get them in Sephora too

  • Sue

Thank you so much for your review. Sadly, in Thailand, there are no samples or test products available, therefore, I’ve no clue how the color will look like.

    Hi Isabella,

May I know if L’Oreal’s cushion refill fits into the cases of other BB cushions? I accidentally bought a refill instead… but I’ve tons of other cases from Laneige/Missha/Etude House/Mamonde/etc.

    Thank you!

Hi Sharon I haven’t tried it to be honest. I imagine it does as they seem to all be a universal size!
