NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick

NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick ($7) are a new vibrantly pigmented matte finish liquid lipstick with a waterproof formula.

Liquid lipsticks, particularly matte ones, are trending for Fall! We’re seeing formulas like this from a variety of brands including Estee Lauder, the Balm, and many others but NYX does win the budget friendly award with their seven dollar formula.

I was excited and a little scared of the new NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipsticks because I’m not really a super fan of matte lipsticks as I tend to have drier lips. These do have moisturizing blend of olive and avocado oil as well as glycerin which made me a little less scared.

Each NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick comes housed in a chunky little barrel tube with an attached sponge applicator that houses 0.13 oz of product. The formula is very thin and very lightweight which makes it incredibly comfortable to wear! Many liquid lipsticks are pretty thick but this does run thinner and for me that translates as comfortable and weightless on my lips.

These are incredibly pigmented and vibrant as promised but sadly they apply very, very streaky so you have to go over the line a few times for a smooth, even finish. Personally I used my finger to smooth out the color so it looked good because right out of the tube, applying with the applicator, you’ll get a really uneven, patchy finish. The drying time is really long so it can take about five or so minutes for color to set and even after that set time they still transfer easily when eating or drinking. The good news is during the wear they didn’t feel dry or uncomfortable. I got about five hours of wear from the formula but during that time I either ended up with the product migrating and feathering OR having issues with it flaking and cracking. I didn’t notice any flavor or fragrance.

All in all NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick were incredibly budget friendly but the formula just wasn’t as great as I had hoped for. The thinner consistency was very pleasant to wear but the streaky application and migration issues didn’t really make me a lover of these.

I have Stone Fox (my favorite!), Amethyst, Softspoken and Sway. Sway is the only one I have issues with it streaking. It layers well, so a second coat fixes that. I think these are really pigmented and super-comfortable. The darker shades never completely dry down, so they transfer slightly on me. I like these much better than ColourPop’s Ultra Mattes.

Glad you had good success with these Rachel! I haven’t yet tried the Colorpop formula yet but that’s up next!

Life’s A Beach looks really good on you. I was thinking about the grey one called Stonefox

    • Isabella Muse

thanks Allie! I was too even though I’d look like an utter mental case in it 😀 haha!

Cherry Skies is absolutely gorgeous, that’s a shame the formula doesn’t like to stay put. Tempted to try and make it work anyway!

I have cherry skies and it stayed still for me and dried well. Everyone’s different I think, thankfully with me when these dry – they’re solid even while eating.

I actually much preferred the matte lip creams NYX has had for a while. They don’t wear quite as long as the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick–I can get about 3-4 hours out of the NYX ones with minor eating/drinking and closer to 5-6 hours with the Stila ones. I do find the NYX matte lip creams to be a bit less drying than the Stila ones, and definitely more budget friendly. I’m sad to see that the lip suedes’ formula wasn’t as impressive as the lip creams! Thank you for reviewing and swatching!

how would you describe the difference, if any, between the soft matte creams and the liquids sue des?

    • Isabella Muse

I think the soft matte creams are creamier, velvety, and more thicker versus this formula that’s a bit more runnier and sets more slowly. Pigmentation is about the same on both with opaque coverage on a single layer however, the soft matte creams set quicker for longer wear where as the suede creams take a while to set (and sometimes never do) and easily transfer.

WOW Muse, You always amaze me with the lipstick shades u wear. Every shade look so much great on you. It seems like all the shades are made for you.

I wish they have these in Brunei. I just added the matte lipstick in Euro Trash, matte lip cream in the shade London and a few of their lip pencils. * LOOOOOVEEE*

  • TaupeCandy

I love Cherry skies on you! I have Tea&Cookies, Sandstorm and Soft-Spoken ( I went for the everyday colors) and I must say I am pretty pleased with these! They do not dry out my lips like other matte liquid lipsticks, I love that velvety, creamy formula and the pigmentation is great – one layer is all I need! Xoxo from Serbia <3

    • Isabella Muse

      aw thanks Taupecandy 🙂 <3! I wish I liked them a little more 🙁

  • Wild4makeup

I completely feel the same as you!!! Mine went on a bit streaky and never really dried down to transfer proof. Love your website 🙂

    • Isabella Muse

aw thanks <3! Yeah, I just wasn't impressed with these 🙁

Hey hey they look really good on you! I have Sandstorm, Softspoken and Tea&Cookies. Using Sandstorm alone makes me look like a villain hahaha so i use a pink mauve lipstick first bfore putting it on which makes a beautiful nude brown pink color. Tea&cookies is too pink on me,so I add a brown lip color.. usually either London or Abu Dhabi from Nyx’s Soft Matte Lip Creams. oooorr i add on Sandstorm.. color esta mucho bien! Aaaand last but not least, Softspoken is like Sandstorm + Teas&Cookies on me. I love them, they dont make lips dry nor sticky.. lips look like lips with color hahah Have u tried any of these three Muse..? pls swatch them on babe! wanna seeeee xoxo
