Lush Cup O’ Coffee Face And Body Mask Review
Lush Cup O’ Coffee Face And Body Mask ($10.95) is a new exfoliating facial mask made with ground coffee which can be used on your body or your face to buff away dry, dead skin cells. Lucky enough Lush Cup O’ Coffee isn’t one of Lush’s Fresh Facial Masks and falls more into the Mask of Magnaminty category as it doesn’t expire as quickly and has a longer shelf life without the need to be refrigerated.
Let’s take a look!
I’m both a lover and a hater of Lush Cup O’ Coffee Face and Body Mask!
This mask is made from actual coffee so it’s ground coffee, caffeine powder, and coffee infusion as well as fragrance additives, kaolin, and glycerine. It’s an interesting mix and smells like a freshly roasted cup of coffee. The kaoilin acts to detoxify skin and draw out impurities in pores while the coffee acts as a what Lush calls a “gentle scrub” (not really in my opinion!).
The mask has a very thick consistency with very larger pieces of coffee grindings. This isn’t a refined grainy scrub but more of a harsher scrub in my opinion and not particularly a good pick for those with sensitive skin, redness, or even blemishes and acne. To me it seems like a mask that could potentially upset most skin types.
I have drier skin and my skin both loved and hated the formula.
To use it you’ll want to slather a nice generous portion on your face and wait around for 10 to 15 minutes. It’ll harden slightly as you wait. I experience a LITTLE bit of a warming as I wore it or I might even call it a subtle burn. After it sets you’ll wash it off with lukewarm water. During the cleansing process you’ll want to massage your face very gently this way you’ll get the benefits of the grainy coffee pieces which act to exfoliate your skin. It gives a very, very deep clean on my face! Likewise on my body! The only problem is it could potentially be a little harsh for certain skin types so just be careful as you scrub and do so gently to avoid irritating your skin.
My skin looked incredible after I used it. Very fresh, very smooth, very soft but very, very, very, very dry. It literally sucked every ounce of moisture from my skin. I already have dry skin and this made it even drier. So I really had to slather on the moisturizer after using it! This is the reason I disliked it.
So Lush Cup O’ Coffee was a total win for a deep clean and it excelled at exfoliating my skin but whether I used it on my face or my body it was a miss due to the severe drying it caused. I would likely not use this too often but perhaps once or so a month when I just want to exfoliate very deeply might do the trick. If your skin runs more oily it might be a complete hit for you but drier skin types beware.
Lush Cup O’ Coffee Face and Body Mask is available now at lush.com and in stores.
