Tarte Tarteist Lip Paint Review & Swatches
Tarte Tarteist Lip Paint ($20) is a new permanent 14 shade selection of liquid lipsticks that launched with the Tarte Spring 2016 Collection. Tarte Tarteist Lip Paint is kinda getting mixed reviews but I have to admit to loving them. These aren’t your traditional wear all day liquid lipsticks which I’m perfectly fine with. I’m a little scared of long wearing liquid lipsticks to be honest!
If I’m eating I’m perfectly fine if my lip color wipes away as it is easy enough to retouch it. Wearing the same lip product for eight or more hours straight kinda freaks me out as it likely won’t remain completely perfect all day and it’ll be difficult to touch up without completely removing it first which will be difficult to do without eye and lip makeup remover. I also happen to have drier lips so yeah, I’m ok with a liquid lipstick that isn’t completely bulletproof.
Tarte Tarteist Lip Paint are a super pigmented matte liquid lipstick however, they do promise long wear which they don’t completely deliver on so if you’re expecting 8 or even 12 hours of wear this might not be a pick for you! But if you’re ok with around five to six hours of wear, well dive in!
Tarte houses these in simple, basic packaging with a black top and gold lettering but the bright shades really shine through here and make the simple packaging look rather extraordinary against the backdrop of gorgeous, super pigmented shades. Each lipstick is 0.01 oz in size and has a sponge applicator for application. A few of the tubes I had issues with as I had an overflow of product over the top at times because the sponge does saturate quite a good deal with the lipstick. Many people complained about the formula being too gloopy and this does lead to some mess around the top of the tube at times so just beware.
I thought the formula was ultra creamy and almost whipped in consistency. It’s quite concentrated a little goes a very long way to create a gorgeous matte finish on lips with full, opaque color on a single layer. All the shades I tried provided intense, bright, bold color pay off. Although thick the formula thins out during application considerably and almost looks like a stain. They feel very lightweight on my lips and although they were not moisturizing, they also weren’t drying on my lips but they never quite set so they do tend to transfer if you’re drinking or sipping from a straw. They didn’t migrate though or feather plus they never set to a super dry finish which can cause flakiness. I’m actually fine with this as touch up is a lot easier with a product you can layer and build easily with or just wipe off and reapply unlike super long wearing liquid lipsticks that isn’t as easy to remove or build upon. They do have a minty flavor and fragrance which I thought was pleasant and did not irritate my lips in anyway.
So no, Tarte Tarteist Lip Paint aren’t going to get you 24 hours of wear. But yes, Tarte Tarteist Lip Paint are pigmented, comfortable to wear, easy to apply, and wear for several hours without fading or drying out so I’m perfectly happy with that. I’m not looking for a long wearing bulletproof liquid lipstick so this formula works out great for me. They are gorgeously pigmented, don’t dry my already dry lips out, and they look smooth, even and gorgeous on my lips.
