Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Drench Lip Splash Lipstick

Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Drench Lip Splash Lipstick are a new, full coverage matte lipstick available in 12 shades that launched with the new Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Collection.

The Rainforest of the Sea Collection is a permanent launch of several brand new products that are are available exclusively at Sephora and Sephora.com. I’ve dubbed it an early Summer 2016 Collection but it is more of a core collection of new products and I think we’ll see more from Tarte as we grow nearer to the official start of Summer.

Let’s take a look at the Tarte Drench Lip Splash Lipsticks below.

Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Drench Lip Splash Lipstick are exactly the formula I had hoped for from the new Too Faced La Matte Color Drenched Matte Lipstick. These are creamy, dreamy, and matte without being drying.

My mom always said rip the bandage off fast to ease the ouch factor so let’s discuss the size and price. These lipsticks are $22 each and are 0.085 oz in size. That does run on the smaller side. A mid-range lipstick is around 0.12 oz in size and costs around $20 to $22. I sure do wish they were a bit bigger! Some folks might find this off putting and others might not mind as much since the formula is quite pigmented. These come housed in a very light, plastic gold and purple ombre slim barrel case. I like the light packaging but I also question the pricing in this area as for $22 you think you’d get a heavier casing. I have to admit that the lightweight feel is a plus for me as I already carry around too many heavy things and I’m not looking to add more weight to my already heavy purse.

As promised these are a full coverage lip color that feels like a lip butter of sorts due to the fact that it glides on so easily. Every single shade I tried provided full, intense pigmentation on a single application. The texture is quite creamy but thin and lightweight without any flavor or fragrance that I noticed. I wouldn’t say the formula is completely matte but it has more of a satiny matte finish that wears very comfortably on lips. The brand promotes it as an “intense hydration” formula but I would say it was only lightly hydrating. I experienced no issues with dryness during the wear of around five hours. The formula didn’t migrate or feather on me but around the four hour mark some shades did settle into my natural lip lines but nothing a little dab of a blot paper or even a finger couldn’t fix.

I did have problems with two shades which were Wet Suit and Bonfire. I found it difficult getting a smooth finish with these and the color seemed to fall into my natural lip lines directly after application which causes the color to look dry and patchy.

If you struggle with matte lipsticks this is a formula you’ll want to check out. Creamy, long wearing, incredibly pigmented, and super comfortable to wear in a range of gorgeous shades, Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Drench Lip Splash Lipstick is most definitely a cut above the standard old matte lipstick!

Likey!

Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Drench Lip Splash Lipstick is available now exclusively at Sephora and Sephora.com.

Wow, Muse! Thank you for all the great pictures and the thorough review. I wasn’t expecting to see lip swatches of every shade. That was awesome!

    • Isabella Muse

ha 🙂 you’re welcome Fey! Hope it helped you decide on your shades!

  • Jean

How do you afford all this?? I think I’m interested only in skinny dip. I don’t really like dark or bold colors.

    • Isabella Muse

These are press samples Jean as disclosed above the post 🙂

      • Jean

Oh yes I see. For some reason I thought you’d disclose that in the post.

        • Isabella Muse

I did disclose it. It’s at the top and bottom of the post.

          • Jean

I meant in the article itself ^^ I didn’t know how your site worked

          • Isabella Muse

Mm I don’t disclose differently from any other makeup bloggers Jean. Everyone seems to do so at the top and bottom of posts. Sorry it confused you?

          • Jean

I can’t seem to reply to your last post. Sorry, I didn’t know about the disclosure. I don’t read blogs other than yours and makeup and beauty blog, and even then I only just started to.

          • Isabella Muse

Hi again Jean! Makeup and Beauty Blog discloses on the bottom of her posts but not the top. According to the FTC we are supposed to do so at the bottom/top of posts from my understanding so that’s how I typically do it. Makeup and Beauty Blog has her disclosure at the bottom in the little black box, it looks like this: http://ibin.co/2Zp4fM6rOxAt. Mine are just little buttons at the top saying whether I purchased it or if it was a press sample. At the bottom I have a little blocked up text box stating the same. Here’s mine: http://ibin.co/2Zp44CZ5RDTB and http://ibin.co/2Zp4GgrjWe0E Bloggers all typically do the same method from what I’ve seen. Hope this helps!? If you’re ever confused whether I purchased something (which is the case about 90% of the time) or if I got it as a press sample. If you’re not sure just ask me and I’ll happily tell you! Thank you for choosing me as one of the blogs you read 🙂 It means a lot!

    Love your blog!
I love all the colors- really look great on you

  • blee

I was at Sephora last Sunday an I did not see any of these, but I did get the lip liner Totes. That will look great with Hey Sailor. I got the Double Duty gel foundation. ( Not at Sephora) Wow we needed this in the winter months! You would like it – I think . Very moisturizing. 🙂 Okay gotta go back to work. LOL

    • Isabella Muse

do want! I can’t wait to try the gel foundation, hearing great things 😀

  • Lori

Happy and Beach Bum look like great colors! Thanks for the detailed review, Muse! I’m hesitant about mattes because the formula tends to be so drying. If these are comfortable, I might give them a try. 🙂

    • Isabella Muse

My pleasure Lori 🙂 They are quite lovely and comfortable on my dry lips 😀

  • devon

One of my Sephora girls fetched me Cabana Boy (and the new palette!) from the back yesterday. And today….the damn lipstick broke! I opened the cap and it just fell right to the floor. I didn’t like the color as much either…and went right back and return/exchanged for Beach Bum today. Anyone else have this issue?? I hope it was just a fluke tube!!!

    • Isabella Muse

NOOOO! that’s sad 🙁 So far so good here, no breaks! Sorry Devon that’s annoying 🙁

  • Dawg

Long time follower of your blog, I have to ask, and I don’t mean for this to come off rudely, but why do you always wear the same exact headband in your photos posed the same exact way? It just seems a bit like you’re are hiding your face, being a beauty guru requires a strong confident presence

    • Isabella Muse

Hi Dawg, thanks for your long term readership! I’m not a beauty guru. Just a girl that loves makeup. I’m confident, not hiding at all. You have to be confident to put several photos of yourself out there and online for anyone and everyone to judge. I try to be as consistent with photos. I’m not a model and I’m not a great photographer just a girl that likes makeup and tries to share that with the world 🙂 I’m not sure how I am hiding my face, it’s fully on display in every photo. As for the headband, I tend to take photos before heading to work in the AM and I have really long, wavy hair that I like to keep out of my face so, a headband and a bun are the way I get it all out my face. Hope this helps!
