Why I’m Going to Try and Avoid the Bath & Body Works Semi-Annual Sale

bath & body works semi-annual sale

I would like it to be known that Bath & Body Works has ruined yellow rubber duckies for me. I grew up singing “Rubber Duckie I Love You” with Ernie and now, whenever I hear that song or see a rubber duckie my wallet mentally cringes because I’m a Bath & Body Works Candle Hoarder and Hand Soap StockPiler. It’s going to be very hard but I’m going to try and avoid the Bath & Body Works Semi-Annual Sale this month. I really think that duck somehow controls the entire Bath & Body Works empire. There’s evil afoot here. I’m betting he even somehow works with the Peeps because we all know they plan to take over the world sometime soon.

Wish me luck?

I feel like a great weight has been lifted off my shoulders now that I can admit to myself and all of you that I’m a candle and hand soap hoarder. I made a promise to myself I won’t buy any more until I use up what I already have.

It’s going to be hard.

I may need your shoulders to lean on.

I may fail horribly.

But I’m going to try really hard.

In all seriousness, I have a closet dedicated to candles and hand soaps so, at this point I really do have to stop. The good news is I have the best smelling house and cleanest hands in the world, possibly the universe!

Bath & Body Works is making it fairly easy to say no considering their price raise on candles lately. Totally motivated me to stop buying!

The good news is I typically migrate to the sell for candles and hand soap but nothing else. I don’t really like their body lotions as they make me sticky and their fragrance mists are gorgeous but a bit weak for me so, I can knock off a majority of their bath and body goodies right off my list.

Now, I just have to get through saying no to candles and hand soaps on sale and I’ll be safe.

Will you be indulging in the Bath & Body Works Semi-Annual Sale?

Or will you be like me and try to avoid it entirely?

Do share!

Avoiding it! I went by there over the weekend because I have a 20% off coupon. Their hand soaps are the main item I use. I hadn’t really shopped shopped there in a while then a couple of years ago, I was like let me go see what’s what. BIG MISTAKE! The end of the year sale I went nuts smh. I have candles that I’m not burning. I have a couple of scents that do enjoy the rest I’ve bagged up and will give to a friend. I like their scents at first and then I get tired of them or the scent starts to turn my stomach. So it’s time for me to leave Bath & Body Works alone and just stick to their hand soaps. Even with those I have to be careful of the scents.

ha Jen! I know this feeling I get sucked into the vortex of BBW. It’s scary! I have to stop!

I don’t think there’s going to be anything in it that I want. I am excited about more summery candles and fall candles this year, since I’ve actually been burning them recently, I’d allow myself to have new ones.

I want a summer boardwalk so badly and hope it pops up soon. And am excited for the new blueberry candle coming out as soon as the sale is over.

    • Isabella Muse

I was disappointed by Fall 2015 candles, it was a lot of reruns! I was hoping for new 🙁 Summer Boardwalk I have like 100 of haha 😀

I’m going to have to avoid it. I worked at B&BW over a winter season and we got discounts on sale prices in January. I literally have 14 bottles of body creme (mostly in Pink Chiffon, although Bourbon Strawberry is a good dupe), 10 bottles of body wash, 10 bottles of body spray, and 6 bottles of hand soap. Oh, and did I mention I worked there three years ago? That’s right, it’s been over three years, and I still have all of the above. I basically need to never enter that store again. Except during winter for the Vanilla Bean Noel. Because I can never get enough of that.

  • Nikki

I’m totally going, I have 2 $10 off $40 coupons. I figure I can stock up to use stuff as emergency gifts. At least that’s what I’ll tell my husband!

  • Z

You can do it Muse! I only go there if I am running out of hand soap now. Last year I decided to learn how to make soy candles and it was the best decisions ever! No more BBW candle hoarding!

  • Karen

Hello from a fellow candle hoarder. I can’t step foot into any store that sells them without purchasing at least one. So I will not be shopping this BBW sale. I have a cabinet full of candles (some from last Summer’s sale) that I need to burn before purchasing more. When I open it up the fragrance that pours out of there almost knocks me over. Lol! But my house sure smells good.

    • Isabella Muse

LOL likewise Karen! I store them in a spare room closet and the entire room smells like candle 😀 I really need to burn what I have and I’m trying hard not to buy more until I do!

  • Kelly

I’m still pining over the discontinued Cool Citrus Basil scent in anything. I majorly stocked up, but am now officially out. Since they don’t seem to want to bring back this classic despite my periodic begging, I’m going to scour EBay. So I should protest the sale, probably won’t as I’m loving their new Ocean Driftwood candle.

  • Dee

It sounds like a lot of us are right there with you! Strength in numbers! I was at the mall earlier and was tempted but was able to cross and walk on the other side so I didn’t even have to go in front of BBW. Yeah me⚡️

  • Lori

Welllll… I have a whole list on my phone of shower gels that I need to replace (and a bunch of bottles standing upside down in my bathroom because I’m trying to get the last dregs out!) so yeah, I’ll be going.
My problem is, I’m not impressed with how their scents and formulas have changed over time into the lightweight, childish stuff they have now. I’m a fan of the old school stuff like Dark Kiss, Velvet Tuberose, White Tea and Ginger-ones that lasted on me ALL DAY. They even killed Twilight Woods off, I think. The most recent one with some oomph is Wild Madagascar Vanilla. Plus…I’m spoiled for any of the stores close by me now because I’ve been to the store at Philadelphia Mills (I believe it’s an outlet) and they have everything current PLUS a special section in the back with the classics like Country Apple, Moonlight Path, etc. So now I feel like the local ones won’t have what I really want, but don’t want to drive an hour for the good store (and spend $$$ at the outlets lol).

    • Isabella Muse

They truly do not have anything unique! It’s a lot of the same fragrances with one note to give them some sort of fresh spin but in reality they all smell exactly the same. I wish they’d go with more sophisticated gourmands. Hell, I’d even take a new sweet gourmand that’s different from everything else they have but I feel like it is a lot of repetition ! 🙁

  • Christina

I too am a hand soap hoarder; esp the LE ones – then I don’t want to use them b/c I can’t get them anymore – LOL!

    • Isabella Muse

LOL PHEW! Glad I’m not alone! “Oh this is LE, can’t use it!” lol!

  • bya j kakley

My favorites are the soaps & candles as well. I love the “Summer Boardwalk” but haven’t seen it yet. I think the candles were better when they were made by Slatkin. I love Marshmallow Fireside & some of the Pumpkin scents, like Pumpkin Cupcake, & more. I don’t really stock pile but am heading to BBW on June 6th! Go ahead take the plunge “Muse”, go for it!! You might find something you don’t have! Good luck!

    • Isabella Muse

I agree Bya! The wicks are a problem lately! ha 😀 thanks! You’re a bad influence!

  • michele miller

Bath and Body Works is sooooo boring…..lotions and candles…..Sladkin should step up his game…….enough of those items !!!!!

  • Debster

I moved to Canada about 2 years ago and the BBW sales here are super lame compared to the USA ones!! I’m mostly interested in sun ripened raspberry, but only allowing myself a little bit (like 40$ little bit) because I’ll lose my mind/wallet otherwise.

  • Carol G

Muse, stay strong! Don’t go. Use up what you have. I am avoiding this sale too because I need to burn up what stockpile of candles I have as well. I plan on going only when the fall candles come out. I have enough summer scents to get me through. Besides, the fall ones are my favorite. You’re right, though, last year’s selection for fall (and winter even) seemed mediocre at best. They need some new scents. I also agree that they are just recycling some of the same scents over and over but just changing the name.

    • Isabella Muse

Likewise Carol! I think, if it is possible, I have more Summer than Fall/Winter ones! Last year’s fall collection was disappointing 🙁 But at least it saved me $$! lol!

  • genevieve

We don’t have Bath and Body works here as a shop, so I am spared that agony because I am a soap and hand cream hoarder. We have the Natio sales and I get invitations to their warehouse… This is a seriously great brand that offers goodies at a most reasonable price. And even though I have sensitive skin, I have never had a breakout because of their shower gels (which are heavenly).
But like you Isabella, I am NOT going to the mid year warehouse sale because I have a stack of their stuff. I use their products for presents and little thank you gifts. So I feel your pain.
Be strong, you can do it! Resistance is not futile.

    • Isabella Muse

haha thanks Genevieve! I’m going to be strong!!!!! Good luck to you too! We’ll resist together!

  • Iris

I’m going to avoid it as well. My skin has lately become more sensitive so I’m avoiding scented products. Hair products are still alright but I don’t think B&BW has too many of those anymore.

    • Isabella Muse

I had this problem in the Winter. I don’t normally have sensitive skin but some reason I had to avoid most everything because I was aggravating my skin and causing further dryness!

  • Nikole

Fun post Muse! So for me, well it’s not like I ‘need’ anything from BBBW ever again; so I SHOULD skip this sale. That being said, I’ve learned to buy more of what I will use more of (hand and body SOAPS), buy less of what I use only in cool/cold weather (candles), and NOT buy what I won’t use (any/all of their hand/body lotions/creams because those are all about the scent and not about actually moisturizing skin; my skin feels no better after it wears off than it did prior to lotion application.) so I’m not in a mad hurry to go, but I’ll probably head over to explore what’s available for summer scented soap.
If you have that much stuff from BBW, give some away as little gifts (I went nuts with those wine themed soap bottles, they’re really cute – but getting one of each kind resulted in a big pile of them, so it’s been handy to put a small bow on and give as a gift). Everyone needs to wash their hands, is how I rationalize it to myself 🙂

just candles, scrubs and wallflowers here, soaps aren’t strong enough scents for my liking so I stopped buying.
I buy scrubs only on SAS and the rest when there’s a discount which makes worth buying. will certainly check out SAS 🙂

    • Isabella Muse

I agree on wallflowers, I barely smell them! I stick with Glade or Febreeze!
