Too Faced Born This Way Concealer

Too Faced Born This Way Concealer ($28) is a new concealer from Too Faced that will be launching in ten shades for Fall 2016 that promises a host of concealing benefits. I was loved Born This Way Foundation. It was creamy, it blended easily, it had a smooth, weightless finish, and it looked incredible on my drier skin. I think they did a really, really good job with that foundation which is why one would expect much of the same from Too Faced Born This Way Concealer. Personally, I was expecting a creamy, full coverage, hydrating concealer much like the foundation!

This is formulated with many of the same ingredients that the foundation has such as coconut water for moisture, hyaluronic acid to retain moisture and smooth skin, as well as alpine rose to brighten. It’s also oil-free!

Let’s take a look!

Too Faced Born This Way Concealer is 0.23 oz in size and will be available in ten shade selections. Unfortunately, I was unable to find a match for my skin tone. Light was too pink, Light Medium was too yellow, and I even tried Medium Tan which would have been a good match because it is a creamier beige but unfortunately, it was a bit too dark. Typically I like a creamy medium beige shade and there wasn’t a single one to be had in this launch. The shades either had too pink, too yellow, or too dark undertones!

Darn!

The formula actually isn’t what I was expecting. It was creamy, it did blend very well, and I had no issues with it creasing or caking under my eyes. However, much like NARS Creamy Concealer it failed to wow me. I expected it to have the same hydrating texture as the foundation but it didn’t really feel terribly moisturizing to me. I also felt like it started out pigmented but quickly sheered out as I blended much like I experienced with the NARS’ formula.

I find the consistency starts out thicker and creamy but quickly thins out as it blends. It hugs eyes very nicely and has an almost stretch-like formula that conforms under eyes without settling into finer lines. The lighter shades I tried seem to sheer out considerably during application yet when I tried the shade Medium Tan I felt like I didn’t have to build as much. The performance is a little inconsistent and varies from shade to shade. The wear time seemed to be rather short for me and I got about five hours without setting powder in place and about six with it.

I think I put a little too much pressure on Born This Way Concealer as I expected to be as fantastic as the foundation and sadly, it just didn’t live up to that formula for me at all! This failed to wow me, but I wouldn’t write it off completely based solely on my review. I think it’s a formula you might have to try for yourself to see if you like it or not!

For me, it was a miss. The formula didn’t offer the coverage nor the moisturizing formula I had hoped for. The shades seem a little hit or miss as well. You might get lucky and find an excellent match or you might be unlucky and not find one like me!

Oh well!

Too Faced Born This Way Concealer launched today at toofaced.com and will be available at Sephora.com and Ulta.com soon after.

Will you be indulging?

Oh well ! For now I’m sticking with my Bare Minerals concealer with the similar formula and applicator, which I bought (and love) on your recommendation.

Susan, that’s a GOOD one! That’s actually what I had hoped this would be like!

Thanks for the honest review, Muse! I think I’ll have to skip this one.
I was not wowed by the foundation either and despite of the wide shade range, I also struggled to find my exact match.

The packaging is cute though 🙂

My pleasure Pamela! Oh no, I was! Wowed my the foundation that is. I really loved the formula and I got a good match in it. But sadly, the concealer just didn’t grab me 🙁

Question-is deep tan actually lighter than tan? It looks like it on the arm swatch. Trying to figure out my best match.! Thank you!

  • Katherine T.

Thanks for the swatches, was curious about this one! I couldn’t find a match in the foundation, but the Light in the concealer might be a good match

I’ll happily accept the darker shades if your not willing/able to use them 😉 i’d hate for product to go unused lol

It’s really hard when you can’t find your shade, a bit like Goldilocks – one too dark, one too light and pink, one not quite right.

  • Kate

I really wanted these to work for me but they creased so badly on me! So sad!

I really like this concelear. It went on smooth, blended with my hard-to-match Latina Jewish skin, and stayed on a long time. I like that it didn’t crease or get a gritty texture like some other brands I tried. I hate makeup shopping and usually wear only one or two products so I’m glad the dude at the Ulta store found the right skin match for me.

Thanks for the response and your blog review which helped me see the various shades of the concealer. I think I really got lucky on the color match. I prefer Too Faced and a few other cosmetic brands (Color FX, Urban Decay, Kat Von D) that are cruelty-free and don’t have animal ingredients. So I am happy to see you reviewing these brands. Thank you.

        • Isabella Muse

aw thanks I’m happy to hear I helped somehow! My pleasure! I love those brands myself 😀 so, I try to feature them as much as possible. P.S. I just tried the new Correctors from Urban Decay and they are good! Def check those out 😀

I went to Sephora and they did not have shade, I still bought it one shade lighter and even though I am very young I have extreme wrinkles under my eyes and relative dark circles and the formula was too liquidity and settled into my deep set wrinkles I might have to return it.

From reading your reviews I feel like we have the same dry under eyes but I’ve just committed to baking (at least for a little while, I don’t keep it on forever). I don’t know why I didn’t like those old Missha concealers you muse approved. Anyway, this is my current favorite for all the reasons you mentioned and so far it works the best for me with a setting powder. For me the coverage is good enough though I also think my closest shade match is just a bit too light. I need to look into Shape Tape but for whatever reason I’m scared to make the leap.

    • Isabella Muse

Shape Tape is def my go to but it feels like the formula has changed a bit! Seems drier to me since my original try with it!
