Too Faced Born This Way Concealer Review & Swatches
Too Faced Born This Way Concealer ($28) is a new concealer from Too Faced that will be launching in ten shades for Fall 2016 that promises a host of concealing benefits. I was loved Born This Way Foundation. It was creamy, it blended easily, it had a smooth, weightless finish, and it looked incredible on my drier skin. I think they did a really, really good job with that foundation which is why one would expect much of the same from Too Faced Born This Way Concealer. Personally, I was expecting a creamy, full coverage, hydrating concealer much like the foundation!
This is formulated with many of the same ingredients that the foundation has such as coconut water for moisture, hyaluronic acid to retain moisture and smooth skin, as well as alpine rose to brighten. It’s also oil-free!
Let’s take a look!
Too Faced Born This Way Concealer is 0.23 oz in size and will be available in ten shade selections. Unfortunately, I was unable to find a match for my skin tone. Light was too pink, Light Medium was too yellow, and I even tried Medium Tan which would have been a good match because it is a creamier beige but unfortunately, it was a bit too dark. Typically I like a creamy medium beige shade and there wasn’t a single one to be had in this launch. The shades either had too pink, too yellow, or too dark undertones!
Darn!
The formula actually isn’t what I was expecting. It was creamy, it did blend very well, and I had no issues with it creasing or caking under my eyes. However, much like NARS Creamy Concealer it failed to wow me. I expected it to have the same hydrating texture as the foundation but it didn’t really feel terribly moisturizing to me. I also felt like it started out pigmented but quickly sheered out as I blended much like I experienced with the NARS’ formula.
I find the consistency starts out thicker and creamy but quickly thins out as it blends. It hugs eyes very nicely and has an almost stretch-like formula that conforms under eyes without settling into finer lines. The lighter shades I tried seem to sheer out considerably during application yet when I tried the shade Medium Tan I felt like I didn’t have to build as much. The performance is a little inconsistent and varies from shade to shade. The wear time seemed to be rather short for me and I got about five hours without setting powder in place and about six with it.
I think I put a little too much pressure on Born This Way Concealer as I expected to be as fantastic as the foundation and sadly, it just didn’t live up to that formula for me at all! This failed to wow me, but I wouldn’t write it off completely based solely on my review. I think it’s a formula you might have to try for yourself to see if you like it or not!
For me, it was a miss. The formula didn’t offer the coverage nor the moisturizing formula I had hoped for. The shades seem a little hit or miss as well. You might get lucky and find an excellent match or you might be unlucky and not find one like me!
Oh well!
