Talk on the Bath & Body Works front recently is that the newly formulated Bath & Body Works Black Cherry Merlot does in fact smell like the hand soap. Slay me, I die. Honestly, I’m all for Bath & Body Works releasing more candles that smell like their hand soaps! Yes, please!

Black Cherry Merlot was released last year in the Cork and Vine Candle Collection and there was much excitement and buzz surrounding it because so many people love the hand soap version. For me the hand soap smells like kindergarten! Seriously, one of my first memories of going to school was the cookies and fruit juice they used to give us and if nothing at that’s exactly what the hand soap smells like. Oh, not the cookie part, the juice part! It’s beyond sweet with a mix of delicious cherries and other fruit notes.

Now, the candle was a crushingly disappointing! It smelled nothing like the hand soap! Le sigh!

But there’s good news to be had! According to WhitebarnCandlefan on Instagram the newly formulated and just released version of the Bath & Body Works Black Cherry Merlot does in fact smell like the hand soap!

Here are some thoughts from my walk and sniff at White Barn: These are my 5 favorites. Banana Pumpkin Muffin — not a direct repackage of Banana Nutmeg Bread Pudding — heavier on the spice, definitely smells like an authentic banana bread bakery scent. Black Cherry Merlot — now smells like the hand soap and lotion! Not as dry and bitter as the Cork and Vine candle. Pumpkin Fireside — repackage of Toasted Vanilla Caramel — the white barn exclusive in last fall's color drive collection. (thanks to @thebronzeblogger For triggering my memory!) Pumpkin French Toast: syrupy, cinnamonny, just perfection. Can't wait to burn it. It, too, smells slightly familiar. I'll need to get it home and compare to other scents in my collection. A few more thoughts from my walk and sniff: Pumpkin Woods is very similar if not a direct repackage of mahogany balsam. Pumpkin pecan waffles definitely has an added cherry note now. Very subtle but it's definitely there! Cinnamon sugared doughnut is back in original form, not the nasty brown wax version from the 2015 white barn market collection Pumpkin Cinnamon Bun is super super light…almost couldn't smell it. It now has the same wax color that pumpkin sugared doughnut had back in 14. Now I just need a sale!! Stat!

I can’t confirm because I haven’t technically smelled it yet but it is available at bathandbodyworks.com and should be at stores shortly. I can’t wait to sniff it! Honestly, they need to do an entire Black Cherry Merlot Collection that includes a fragrance mist and body products as far as I’m concerned but for now I’ll settle for a dozen of the candles if they really do smell like the hand soap!

Have you smelled the newly formulated candle yet?

Do share them!

I smelled it in store a few weeks ago. The top note is definitely black cherry, but it’s still heavy on the merlot after that. Even the rubdown test proved to be heavy on the merlot. I passed on picking one up to burn because I’m highly cynical that the throw will be more than just dry red wine.

So I’m not the only one who smelled that soap and was instantly obsessed?!? YAY! I’m gonna have to grab a few of these. I hoarded that Riesling candle from last year and still have like 3 left.
