Rimmel The Only 1 Matte Lipstick Review & Swatches
Rimmel The Only 1 Matte Lipstick is a new matte finish lipstick that’s launching at drugstores for Spring 2017. I am beyond excited about the Only 1 Matte Lipstick as I’m a massive fan of the original Only 1 Lipstick formula which is beautifully creamy, lightly hydrating, and super pigmented. I’m not one to get hyped about matte lipsticks but as a fan of the original formula I was really excited to see what Rimmel could do with a matte version of it.
Check out my review below!
Rimmel The Only 1 Matte Lipstick is currently in a display featuring six shades but I imagine we’ll see more colors soon as the UK release has nine and the original Only 1 Lipstick formula has over that. The display also features what appears to be new, nude shades of the original the Only 1 Lipstick as well. These lipsticks will be a permanent part of the Rimmel Lipstick come Spring 2017 but it isn’t a new formula as it has been around for a few months in the UK.
The new formula comes in the same slick barrel as the original but in a red casing so, if you’re storing the two together you’ll know the mattes from the originals my the shade of the outer packaging (the original barrel is black). As with the original these have a strong fruity rose flavor and fragrance which I didn’t mind so much but it’s always worth mentioning for sensitive users. The second thing I notice is the shades are truly flattering and many are MLBB-like (my lips but better). The original formula was truly incredible with a slick, easy glide on my lips and a slightly creamy consistency that melted like butter during application. The new formula is a creamier, satiny matte formula that also applies very easily on lips without tugging. I find the formula lightly hydrating but if my lips are chapped or dry the color can cling and accentuate these areas. When my lips aren’t dry the color is smooth, even, and perfect with excellent pigmentation. The wear is around five hours and some shades do leave a staining behind such as The Matte Factor.
I’m not a terribly huge fan of matte lipsticks but these were elegant with beautiful pigment and a comfortable wear that didn’t feel terribly drying on my already dry lips. I wouldn’t give the original formula up for them 🙂 but matte lipstick lovers are sure to be pleased with these.
Rimmel The Only 1 Matte Lipstick are available now at ASOS.com and should be launching soon at Ulta.com and other drugstores.
