Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrating Cleansing Gel Review

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrating Cleansing Gel ($7.99) is part of the new Neutrogena Hydro Boost Makeup and Skincare Collection for Spring 2017. This new gel cleanser contains hyaluronic acid and acts to remove makeup while leaving skin soft and hydrated. The addition of hyaluronic acid in anything always excites me and ends up an insta-purchase. As someone with drier skin, hyaluronic acid is a God sent for hydrating but also keeping moisture locked in.

This also seemed like a great cleanser to use along with Neutrogena Ultra Light Cleansing Oil in a double cleanse routine.

Here’s some thoughts!

I picked this up at CVS two weeks ago as they have a new display that features a few new Hydro Boost Skincare products. This one comes housed in a 6 oz slim bottle with a formula that has a light, fresh aquatic scent. I loved the fragrance and it seemed a different than the fragrance from the regular Hydro Boost line. However, this could potentially be an issue for those with sensitivities.

I actually hated the formula sadly. It’s soap, oil, and paraben-free and has a very light, gel-like consistency. It produces a very small amount of foam which was disappointing as I tend to like a lot of lather in my cleansers. I tested it by itself and also tested it in a double cleanse routine. When using it alone I felt it didn’t get all my makeup off as I typically do a micellar water test after cleansing with a new cleanser to see what gunk was left behind. Trust me, there was a lot of makeup and dirt left behind on my cotton pad. I also tested it in a double cleanse routine and this produced far better results but I blame my cleansing oil for doing the most work.

And lastly, it made my skin rather tight and dry. My skin is already pretty dry but this just added to that feeling. Moisturizer after helps considerably, of course! But for something that promises to hydrate and seal in moisture, this was disappointing.

Le sigh!

Oh well!

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrating Cleansing Gel didn’t quite work out well for me!

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrating Cleansing Gel is launching now at drugstores and at Ulta.com.

I was interested because I need moisture in winter especially but it lost me at fragrance!

Does this remove eye makeup/mascara or does it have the dreaded “do not get into eyes” warning?

no thankfully not! No warning! But sadly, does a poor job removing regular makeup never mind eye makeup!

I love Neutrogena products and use some of them regularly. But this product disappointed me. I was hoping it would perform as described, but after washing, my face felt like I had a sunburn and it felt ‘right.’ I’m returning it to CVS tomorrow!!

Hm, the hylauronic acid is LAST here? I mean, I am no chemist, so it probably would be too much to be in the top 5 ingredients, but it’s AFTER fragrance? Cmonnn Neutrogena
